  • I manually advanced the timer to get a smaller amount of water in the Unimatic. It is interesting how it did. Hope you all enjoy the video.
    Thank You for watching!

    What I like about the UniMatic and all the up and down Frigidaire’s is that fantastic turnover of the laundry yet seems much more gentle than the aggressive back and forth agitator models of yesteryear.

      I agree with you 100% Peter!!! As a kid I got into some pretty dirty situations playing outside and my Mother's Frigidaire 3 ring agitator washer always seemed to get my play clothes clean without any problems because of the constant rollover action!!!

      In 1958 the unimatic made it to the top of the ratings in CR magazine. These made some serious toroidal currents.

    That is awesome Tyler. Thanks for demonstrating the small load. Your whites are sure bright after the wash. The 1955 Frigidaire Unimatic washer is still working like a champ at 63 years because it's built to last.

    A GREAT!!! video, Tyler. Amazing how the washer kept the load balanced during the very rapid take off spin. Most machines would have swept the load to one side and would have ended up unbalanced. Amazing and awesome washer.

    A great video thanx Tyler! Your socks were so clean in such a short time! It would be lovely if we could buy those washers hear in London. A small selection were on sale a few years back now. I had a Hotpoint top load automatic. The problem being that you could not get spare parts for it when Hotpoint discontinued it. Its front loaders hear or nothing. With the EU bringing in water saving measures that also put the tin hat on top loaders hear. Plus most homes don't have a separate laundry room so the washer is in the kitchen. To save on space the front loader is placed under a counter top in a row of cupboards. I would love to have a top loader again. Great stuff mate! Regards Lee.

    I always liked the design of these Frigidaire wash tubs. The way the tub is designed itself.
    It doesn't have a clothes guard like most solid tubs did. The design itself makes a kind of ledge where it would be much harder for the clothes to escape.
    Lots of thought and engineering really went into these GM Frigidaire machines. I mean piano hinge lids and 1140 rpm spins beginning in 1947 ?
    The only other US made washer that ever spin as fast was the early GE top loaders from 1947 - 49 or 50 ? Somebody knows the answer.
    Only a car company could come up with this design. When american made meant something.

    • @CBF1
      @CBF1 2 роки тому

      Yes I agree, the performance, fun and especially appearance of the GM Frigidaires are exquisite in every way possible. Out of all of the GM frigidaires I prefer the unimatics and pulsamatics, but what might be my favourite model is the original 1947 All-Porcelein-Coloured white perforated tub piano hinge lid washer(WJ/WK-60).
      Not many of those are known to exist and Robert Seger's is the only one online with it's original drum. Others appeared online such as mayken4now's and one owned by gyrafoam(possibly the same washer as mayken4now's) but they have the more common solid speckled tubs from 1949 and onwards. They DO have their original 1947-1948 agitators though but I want one with the original white perforated drum and silver perforated agitator.
      And yes the early GE's (1947 - 1950) are the only other top loaders spinning at 1140 RPM's.

      @@CBF1 Hi. That early white tub model also had much more of a bowl shape to it. The tangling had to be horrendous and Consumer reports over here dinged them for that but said they were superior to others in some aspects if I remember that correctly. I think they said uneven cleaning ? I believe because of the roping effect. Very powerful machines for their day and even today.

    • @CBF1
      @CBF1 2 роки тому

      @@patcola7335 Yes I did hear and can see in the pictures of Robert's one.
      Of course they'd be powerful washing machines as they wouldn't have any plastic outer tubs or crap like that, all metal high quality materials as cheaper materials weren't used anywhere near as much back then and they probably valued quality over economy unlike in today's awful society...
      No idea how the roping effect works. I definetely want to find an early white drum model although the chances of that are very, very, slim according to several people. Oeufs blancs.

    • @patcola7335
      @patcola7335 2 роки тому +1

      @@CBF1 The roping effect would in essence make the whole load tangled to where you could pull the whole load out attached to each other. A long rope. That was some serious mechanical action.

      @@patcola7335 Damn.
      Unimatics mean business even if they don't tangle. All GM Frigidaire's do.

    With technology at the state it is today couldn't this washer be produced again ? Couldn't it be simplified ?
    It's amazing to me the 1-18 worked as well as it did being such a large tub and perforated.
    Tyler if I may ask:
    How did the jetcone agitator produce the currents for rollover ? It doesn't have an energy ring like the older three ring does it ? Is it the cones that produce some kind of suction ? I've always wondered that about the 1-18 washers.

    • @Gsohoover
      @Gsohoover  5 років тому +1

      Pat, the energy ring does most of the work. The 1-18s and Rollermatics it was smaller, so It doesn't get crazy like this machine does. The rings do move the water.

    3- Can you do more videos just like this with small loads with low water levels Keep it up!👍🏾👍🏾

    Once again Gso, "Great Video" Never get tired of watching these great machines in action!!! Does that machine have the automatic shut off if the load becomes unbalanced??? And if so could you put a load out of balance to see it shut off??? Thanks...

    • @Gsohoover
      @Gsohoover  5 років тому

      It does have the out of balance but I removed it from the machine. When the Unimatics go out of balance. They hit an arm it it shoves the timer to off (out). A surprisingly simple way to do it.
