First impression, from this video, is that the game would benefit from allowing the player to store one item that is not equipped for the purpose of combining lower level equipment.
Definitely agree with this. Or more than one like loop hero.
That'd be rad as hell
but perhaps that makes the game too easy
@@jac6548 It’s too frustrating in the early stages to be limited to four item slots, only being able to combine items at certain points on the map, and be forced to dump an item you might want to keep to hold onto a duplicate that you may not find an artisan for. AND even if you do manage to combine it before the boss tracks you down, you can’t recover the item you were forced to leave behind, so you may have to fight the boss with an empty equipment slot. Even with eight slots, it’s a struggle to work around, and near impossible with four (when arguably a single upgraded item would have the most impact).
@@Splattercatgaming @jac6548 With RNG, finding the right items and the combiners, might make the odds so poor as to not be worth it. Having a loot train/bag would help make item combiners more consistently interesting (instead of just "I can do nothing with this, yet again"), and encourage the player to keep mixing up your play style; less impressive loot in your bag might suddenly have a chance to be something better and worth mixing up your kit!⚔
This looks very surprising, looks simple at first (graphics certainly makes it look simple), but seemingly deeper then appearances would give you to believe.
I enjoyed playing games like this 40 years ago.
Games like Terraria and Caves of Qud taught me that graphics are not the be all end all for games. There are a ton of gems out there (Path of Achra, odd realm, Rise to ruin to name a few) that I enjoy and frequently would rather play those over high graphic games. This game really vibes for me and I loved Loop Hero. Perhaps this is the next fun iteration of it!
Idk but i really like caves of qud artstyle and other minimalist pixelart games, i like you they give you a "silhouette" of The character and the details are up to your brain
This looks so addictive
OH LAWWD (he comin’)
Looking at the game, "Yeah I don't think so."
Looking at the game after watching, "Fuck yeah!"
Definite wishlist from me. Looking forward to trying this demo out later. Absolutely Steam Deck material.
Style > Graphics. Always.
I immediately thought loop hero before you even mentioned it. I need more loop hero.
Quit convincing me to buy interesting games
The sound and autobattle mechanic reminds me heavily of Loop Hero
23:00 the "double damage every other turn" means "double damage on your opening round, which could kill most basic mobs"
Frontloading damage, just like the first boss you fought.
Aye it works amazingly with the Ice sword that has high attack, but loses attack value with each attack. I've been able to alpha-strike for more than 40 damage on the first hit and actually 1-shot some of the bosses.
I think the art style actually serves the gameplay pretty well.
I call it "sokpop style" because it looks like a lot of their games
Loop Hero for people who prefer to stay out of the loop.
Troll Slayer front loads your damage in hopes you kill them in one turn. With your ring that made you attack twice on the first round that would've been equivalent to 4 attacks at the start of combat.
I second the mobile port idea as well as all consoles. This screams living room vibes with the Wife and kids. Gaming as a grown up sure has changed my perspective
One I am commenting because it helps
Two I wishlisted the crap out of this game. I played the demo a bit and now I want to hand these folks money.
I can't tell you how happy I am that I found this channel. It is hard to find news about indie gaming. So, thanks for the help.
The First Turn is an attack with Titan's Edge and then you don't attack on the 2nd, So double damage first turn with the double strike first turn is a build focusing on alpha strike. Then if you fail the first turn kill it's a risk due to the every other turn nature of the rest of the battle. (depending on the enemy it's not a huge risk)
Wild to me that neither splat nor any commenters recognize where these graphics are from.. It's probably one of the most popular asset packs ever hehe
But yea, that's an insta-download for me, love the map design...
I don't know anything about assets or game dev. What is it from?
@@LoafingMushroom (I think my reply got deleted for having a link?) It's Kenney's 1-Bit pack.
@@jawnney I don't think it was deleted for any reason. Half of my replies on mobile especially will look like they post but just never do. thanks for the info.
The sounds instantly tickled my ear as they are used in Flatspace too.
This kind of reminds me of Slice and Dice, in the sense that the simplistic graphics hide an incredibly complex game that also works well on mobile.
Oh lawd, he comin' *parrot stomping across the room*
Since its not just one boss per game shouldnt it be 'They are coming'?
This game looks sick! I hope they have enough variety in the items and enemy sprites to go the endless loop gaming.
This game does look cool, kind of like a fast paced board game, with early 90s or late 80s graphics.
Yea probably why I like it so much, has that hella fast arkham horror stack up a build before you get womped by the GOO feeling to it and arkham is my favorite board game ever.
I really like this graphical style.
Simplistic and clear, very nice work!
I wish more companies would have a mobile version right away, especially for a game as simple as this. I really want to play this. Great viddy as always.
Omg, the graphics and the colours are so pleasing for the eyes. One look and i love this game already.
Keeps watching that sub count creep closer and closer to 900K!
This game is so charming! The UI and overall presentation is really well done.
Looks fun, fresh ideas always welcome in this saturated genre. I'll play :)
Charming game!
Took me about 2 seconds of viewing to get me hooked, and after some 2 minutes had passed, I paused the video, went to the Steam store page and downloaded the game. Upon launching the game I was met with a Steam info-window tellling me this game is best played a controller, any controller, which I found to be pretty neat since many games do not have proper controller support, not even those that severly needs it and are made by big studios. So, the game starts, it's in swedish!? As well as english and chinese. Very few games are in swedish, so this piqued my interest even further. Now, it seems that the text was first written in english and then later translated to swedish, as there are a few english words intermixed with the swedish. There are also some so-called swenglish words and expressions (english words used with swedish pronouciation and grammar added, which can come of as infantile and in some cases straight up wrong), it leads me to belive that whoever wrote the text for this game is either quite young and lacks reading and writing experience, or used some kind of software to auto-translate (or both).
The game, and the gameplay loop, is indeed hooking. With some poolishing and tuning I can see this become a big hit. And the chip-tune music fits just about right. I look forward to seeing this game completed.
He Is Coming. And so am I
MS-Dos era? I was thinking more ZX Spectrum :D Awesome game idea tho
Hi, thank you for the recommendation. Unfortunately, it was too good and I sank 11.3 hours in one day. I look forward to the full release of the game and thank you for being an awesome UA-camr
The graphics look absolutely fantastic imo
The visuals of this game sends me back to my first computer : The ZX Spectrum.
strike every 2 turns but deal double damage might be better for the weak enemies, *if* you attack/wait/attack/wait instead of wait/attack/wait/attack.
looks great.
The boss system is similar to Lonestar but I generally don't like autobattles
I just played the demo and it was great! Definitely going to pick it up when it comes out!
Looks like "Ultima" the very first open world RPG computer game back in the early 80s.
Titan's edge would be great to one shot more stuff you wouldn't normally be able to no ? Double damage on first turn ?
The fire didn’t work because it was day time, half to sleep at knight
This game looks great. Quick highly customizable gameplay.
Engagement!!!! FFfffffuuuuuuuuuuu....
Graphics reminds me of 8 bit Ultima (I through V).
i have been waiting for something even remotely similar to Loop Hero so I am super excited ab this.
He is coming...
Quick, grab the Kleenex!
This game is pure win, neat combos that might work against one boss but fail against the next.
bopper might be OK but im watting on the BANNGERS
Take it back! My wife is a bopper!
The graphics will be well accepted for all of us old timers. And even accepted by a lot of the retro game fans!!
I feel like old-timers and retro fans is kind of redundent.
OMG those visuals, I am transported. Wishlisting this fo' sho'
The graphics look kind of nintedoish......i like it.
Seems like a mashup between loop hero and that psp game 60 sec hero. However I dont like the old art style I dont need ray tracing but its 2024 bro. Cant make pixel art better than NES days? Theres some cheap tilesets out there better than this.
It's like a more expansive onebit adventure.
Mildly disappointed the big-bad isn't George Washington. He's coming, he's coming, he's coming...
Spread spread Delaware...
Definitely going in the wishlist, thanks for the coverage
ZX Spectrum/Amstrad CPC Era.
Was gonna say -- this feels deffo like Spectrumpunk...! 😁 Well, visually, at least. 😉
The colours take me right back to playing Gauntlet on my ZX Spectrum.
Wait, I can't decide whether the second boss looks like a muppet or a monster. I think it's supposed to be the latter, but I was seeing the muppet nearly all the time.
Muppet: things on top of the head are eyes,, pupils pointing to the bottom right. Face protrusion is the tongue, black part above ist the mouth, the 2 pixels in the mouth are teeth.
Monster: things on top of the head are horns, face protrusion is the nose, black part above is shadow, the 2 pixels are the eyes.
This game is so charming and pure win! It's kind of like a fast paced board game, with early 90's or late 80's graphics.
Tried the demo and is has indeed that Loop hero vipe. RNG in finding the right items to slay a particular boss can be a bit punishing, but still good fun!
Noticed the campfires light up at night splat. Makes sense.
Going to check out the demo. I enjoyed Loop Hero
Leshen getting his own music! That's when you know you're in trouble!
Also I'm drunk, made scamble eggs and enjoying a good ol splatter video!
excellent!
The camps and your house are only available at night 😅
Your house does not reveal the map, it simply shifted between night and day
loop hero without the looping or scenery cards
This feels like a game that's very easy to get into it, very simple to play, and rewarding enough to make it feel good to play... it must be a very addictive game...
I HATE achievement unlocks. I know I'm probably alone in this, but it's enough to make me not buy or play a game. Let me unlock everything by playing the game the way I want to play, I don't care if I have to grind longer to do so. Forcing me to play a game in a certain way means I have no desire to ever play the game.
God forbid devs even dare have their games challenge us gamers in any form ...
@@yagami999913 I don't consider this to be a challenge thing. I like lots of challenging games, and I'm a huge FromSoft fan. What I hate, is when a game tries to force me to play a certain way. I've quit many a game over that.
For some reason this reminds me of Loop Hero.
It seems like a game where decisions really matter. You don't just kill things slightly faster or slower; you either die in 1 hit or you don't. Simple, I like it.
I actually love these graphics
I'd play this on PlayStation
Depending on what program they made the game on, making the game for phone use can be as simple as a press of a button :D
I'll queue that up for a purchase
"Indie games are in a lull"
Are you kidding me? Some of the most unique indie games have come out this year and shined due to AAA studio failures
Finally, a game I don't have to dedicate my life to just to reap the rewards.
Reminds me of nes dragon warrior.
House did not scout out the area! Dawn happened in the square next to your house!(You have longer vision in the DAY) Given it also went dark at dawn I think it is probably behaves like a campfire which is pass the NIGHT to the next DAY(Because that is how SLEEPING works!) for a benefit.
4:40 There's already an item called "Oak Heart" that does exactly this basically!
Great game to play on phone..
Tired from roguelikes and roulette mechanics in games... Really. Is it none one make games which You can walkthrough? You know, like from A to Z, like in old times? Tired... From... This... Shit... 😮💨
Wrong. I already came.
Very Caves of Qud and Aecius Quest vibes. Heck yeah!
Love it, Splatty! I also really liked loop hero and this gives me a loop hero feel for sure
Ultima-like Rogue-like :D
the player sprites is the same with one bit adventure, I'm sold!!!
This looks great, thanks for showing us. I'm downloading it right now.
Looks quite like loop hero
I heard that La Bamba riff.
Reminds me of Ring of Pain
Splat pray to the UA-cam gods alongside me yeah? I really wanna hear voices properly again...the game seems interesting though. I don't think I could play it for to long...I kinda need some 3d graphics in my life haha.
I won't lie, it's hard for me to remember indie games are currently in a rut cause i've been loving the Dome Keeper update and can't wait for WARCANA (which I discovered here on this channel)! XD
My brother, how can you say indie games are in a lul, when Tiny Terrys Turbo Trip just came out
Reus 2 just got into early access
Fields of Mistria (altho not my style of game) launched to resounding success into early access
And if we think a lil further back we got Hades 2 and Balatro this year
If you like this game then you should check out Megaloot, very similar ideal if laid out a bit different. This game seems like a mix of Loop Hero and Megaloot (although I'm not sure if this game came about before Megaloot or not). Also this game is very derivative and what you explain is something being derivative and that's not a bad thing (just about everything is a derivative of something else). I think you meant to say not just being a clone.
Thx for the intel, man! What a cute game! Gonna check the demo.
Loop Hero vibes. Looks fun
Indie games are in a lull? You joking? Sarcasm? Aaa games are no more, indie games have filled the void. If you need a list of rogue lites that cost less than $15, I could rattle off 20 or so games, for instance, magicraft. That game is an easy 100 hours of fun.
@Splattercatgaming can you show us some stealth games?
