EPIC 10,000 Foot Swiss Mountain Hike (You Won't Believe It)

- Hiking the Alps, Switzerland - climbing Piz Languard near Pontresina and St. Moritz, Engadin, Switzerland! An out of this world hike, reaching nearly 11,000 feet!
Nonna and Grandpa kindly gave us another lift to this hike, where we got the chairlift halfway up the mountain. We saw our route on the map and heard some of the local wildlife - marmots. We also had our eyes peeled for steinbock, or alpine ibex, which are known to live on the Piz Languard and all around Pontresina and the Engadin region of Switzerland.
The ascent afforded us brilliant views and the opportunity to see St Moritz and further from a great vantage point. We also filled our bottles with some delicious (and cold!) water from the mountain. We needed it as the path got steeper and we made our way up the scree to the hut just 60m below the summit. Here we stopped for lunch and took in the beautiful scenery.
Hannah was feeling the altitude, having already climbed to way past 3,000 metres (10,000+ feet) above sea level so she decided she would stay at the hut - which was unfortunately not open. I pushed on and made it to the top of Piz Languard, one of the highest summits of the Livigno Alps and the highest summit of the range that lies west of the Livigno Pass.
Having seen a storm was headed our way, Hannah hurried us down the mountain and we just got caught in the start of the rain when we got back on the chairlift. Just before this, however, we managed to glimpse a few marmots on the mountainside - although there were no steinbock in sight on this day!

Absolutely fabulous video. Reminds me of many hikes in the mountains in my younger days. In my 70s now and keep to lower altitudes but still hiking!

Hi, I like walking in the Peak District and climbing Kinder Scout from various approaches, also I go tent camping in the Lake District at least once a year and last year I did the Langdale Pikes. This year I plan to go to North Wales and do a bit of low level walking and take lots of photographs which is a favourite hobby of mine. Also planning another trip to the Lakes. In the past I have done a few 3000’ in Wales and travelled quite a bit in Austria and Switzerland and have been to 11,500’ I think once in Austria, but I can’t remember what it was called. I know you could feel the lack of oxygen - fabulous! I also did the Eiger Trail in deep snow and mist a few years ago and did not see the signs saying ‘closed due to dangerous snow conditions’! 😳 Did it anyway and brought back a lump of the North Face which is constantly shedding in those conditions and it now sits on my window ledge.
@@petercollins7848 Hey! We're hoping to move a little further north to have easier access to the Peaks and Lakes in the next few years. The Lake District has to be one of our top fave places in the country for sure. Langdale Pikes we haven't done but Buttermere blew us away when we visited. You'll have to let us know if you get a chance to see that video of ours! Sounds like you did very well on that Eiger Trail too - can't believe you carried on up not knowing. I bet that one is remembered fondly!

One question tho! I'm thinking about buying the Sony ZV1. How do you control the stabilization? Do you adjust it in Final Cut or do you adjust it in the camera settings?

Brilliant - hello and thanks so much for following along on our adventures! Obrigado! 🙏😁 For me the ZV-1 is absolutely great: super compact, great quality, built in ND for bright scenes, easy to use (although I have been using a Sony point and shoot for about 5 years now, so I may just be used to their menus!).
Re: stabilisation, I just turned it on in the camera settings and haven't touched it since. Sometimes I apply stabilisation in FCPX on some slow mo shots but it's not too often I film those recently.
Some downfalls of the ZV-1 for me personally are: not wide enough as I would like, and there's a crop if using the stabilisation & the batteries don't last very long - I only shoot 1080 with it so it's not as much of an issue but with 4K I'm sure it would be!
What other cameras do you have in mind? And how long have you lived in Austria for? Thanks for your comment 😁

@@LozsLeisure I remember during the 80's (when i was a kid)/90's there was skiing until the month of June, but not in the Diavolezza/Pers area which we see here in the clip. Still in the Corvatsch area, which is a little further back. ((There was still a lot of snow in the Diavolezza area, but I think it was too dangerous during this time of the year because of the many crevasses in the glacier)
