Getting this guy after years of being left with an old, beat up Doc Ock makes me feel like recreating scenes from Spider-Man 2 with Figuarts Tobey Spidey
Here's the thing about the tentacle sculpt, in the movies in 2004 they were actual physical handcrafted tentacles, where as in NWH they were CGI, if you look at the two in their movie counterparts it's very accurate The NWH figure tentacles are accurate to NWH While 2004 is accurate to 2004
I just got this figure as a late Christmas gift and I love the figure my only complaint is the fact that the arms are hard to get into the correct position to stand Doc Ock
To be fair to the ToyBiz Doc Ock, the blue in the tentacles is kind of accurate! It's something I myself didn't notice until a few days ago: if you look at the movie poster and some scenes in the movie (expecially the one where Doc Ock puts the tentacles on) you'll see a tiny white/blue light inside each of the upper claws, same placement where the toy has them. They're very difficult to see due to the red "eye", but it's there! Now, this being just a toy, probably to make it more appealable to kids ToyBiz decided to splash a lot more color into it. Nonetheless, I think their attention to detail should be commended!
Yep! It's true I noticed this years ago while questioning why it was like that. I kinda like that is exagerated that way, I like the strong contrast with the paints for the Toy Biz, maybe not for the Legends; definitely more appealable like you say (at least to me XD)
I think Doc looks great, the look is nailed. But ToyBiz Doc is definitely the better action figure. Also, if doc falls off your shelf, you run the risk of losing the individual articulated claws.
Just a little note: the small claws that are articulated go on the top, and the bottom claws that Doc Ock stands on are the big ones. For those who don't know. This guy gets it. 😎🤙🏻
I do only have the single retro carded Spider-Man No Way Home Tobey Maguire Spider-Man and the deluxe Green Goblin figures but to me, Doctor Octopus looks so very great especially with him displayed with the tentacles in badass poses, Overall, Very fantastic review on this Marvel Legends Doctor Octopus figure David because you are so cool.
There's one creator, Geeky Gecko I think his name is, he's made upgraded claws for the marvel legends. They're resin 3d printed and the top set articulate at all three points they do in the movie, plus have magnets for the spike that comes out in the center. He hasn't released them to etsy yet, but it's probably coming soon
Another great in-depth review, David. The tentacles of the new Doc Ock have the prong-shaped nanotech parts seen in No Way Home, but they aren't painted, which is why the tentacles seem off in comparison to the original Toybiz figure. It's an odd choice, I Would have preferred the nanotech parts being absent and the golden paint apps being applied.
I remeber as a kid imidiately wanting the Doc Ock after watching the Movie and remember buying it at Walgreens, it was the one with the lever on the back with the action feature that never really worked, i also bought that removable tenticle version you have, that one i remember buying it at Meijers. Out of the two toybiz Doc Octs the leaver on the back one had a slightly better face paint and sculpt. Once i found out about the newer Marvel legends i just had to have it! i bought it a few weeks ago for 10 bucks at target, it brought memories of getting the old toybiz figures as a kid.
Inaccuracies apart (you can watch close ups for the tentacles or pause the No Way Home movie, they are supposed to be the same design that they were in Spider-Man 2) I think the new figure has an amazing presence to it and the fact that you can balance it in 2 tentacles makes it even better, i managed to do that with the Toy Biz one once but even then the fact that the tentacles were shorter make it seem less impressive than this. I plan on having this one so I can have both ocks, one for my MCU shelf and the other to go with my old Toy Biz figures. PS: No articulated claws and flimsy clips for them sucks.
I really think that if we got the technology for making the tentacles the way you want them to be, this figure would not be 40 USD... Great video tho, thanks for it.
To Both Hasbro and ToyBiz have done a brilliant job of art work in capturing the specific elements and likeness to Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock from the Spidey films however I still feel Hasbro could have done a better job of giving proper limb articulation to his tentacles.🦑 🕶️

STAND him up😊.I? Got one that came w the aunt May 2 pack. And..No issues w making him walk w those tentacles. Not sure why ya arent doing that here?

The old one has aged like fine wine and Toybiz has always nailed their figures because the early Hasbro figures were rough.

It's pretty much the same design from SM2 to NWH. Hasbro hasn't sculpted the proper gaps and thicker segments, neither painted the golden parts.
Toy biz even has his claws fully articulated, the new one does not

Maybe a future re-release named like greatest hits or top picks, we could have better articulation on the tentacles

I miss the claw articulation the toybiz one had to offer. I like both equally. Doc Ock is just cool.
I'm very bummed we didn't receive an updated Jamie Foxx Electro. VERY shocked they chose Sandman, MJ and Matt over Electro...

I got that new doc ock figure but unfortunately on mine one of the mechanical arms broke off after taking it out of the package.
Same for me but it’s just glued in the back so e6000 fixes it easily & probably better than the glue hasbro used
The toybiz series comic doc ock with the articulated tentacles is still the best doc ock for me and i have never liked mcu doc ock at all
