  • Having completed all of Horizon's content, I imagine playing the game all over again with the knowledge of what skills are awesome, good or rubbish. Using a traffic light system, I recommend which skills to go for and justify why other skills are not worth the investment. A clear representation of this is shown with green, orange and red highlights around the skills making for the most comprehensible review of the available skills.

    Really good advice. The only thing I disagree with is leaving tinker to the end. This is fine if you know the game, know the machines, know the weapons and and have all the strategies down ...and you are a good shot. But for a lot of people myself included - buffing the weapons early really helped. Being able to switch out mods from one elemental buff to another, or from handling priority to damage priority, or swapping a blue mod for a purple mod, or a purple mod for a better purple mod was invaluable.

    When I found out the spear can knock down large enemies it made my game a lot easier. The heavy attack animation is long, but the basic strat is dodge, heavy attack, crit. You'll always have time to pull this off.
    In groups you can light attack as you
    kite the dangerous machine to take out the small machines without having to take your eyes off it.

      @@Constantine_xP It gets boring pretty fast. Also, the spear is way, way more useful early on, when your ranged and elemental weapons are dogshit. Being able to easily kill, say, a sawtooth with only 3 heavy attack/crit combos is very powerful. And while this stuff only gets better as you go, it's just outclassed by the op late game gadgets that you get

    The point of Tinker is so you're not wasting your mods, so you can sell them for resources instead of having to burn or drop them. It helps significantly to get it early. Personally I prioritize the Forager skills as I am a big time resource/money guy so I can buy all the good weapons and armor sooner.

    I've been mostly using spear attacks and sneak strikes and I'm level 32. The spear tree and the critical ascension branch are really good and I nearly never have to use arrows, I've got around 800 of each elemental resource. Playing on very hard, against large groups of enemies, I usually use stealth to get close and get a sneak attack, then two light attacks then one heavy and most of the time even large machines will fall down, leaving them exposed for a critical hit. Then I go hide since all machines will be on high alert and start all over again. Don't discredit the spear.

      MrBipson the strong attack knocking them down if sometimes enough ( not against human bosses but a group of standard humans sure) in addition knocking humans down with a bomb slinger then following with a crit spear can can also help too. It’s more of a when shit hits the fan strategy then what should be your main focus though. Trying to get headshots to take them out one by one should be what you go to first and the sling then crit combo can be for when shit hits the fan.

    I found it very useful to start by getting silent strike and the lure skill to easily survive early game, then getting all the extra resources skills from the forager tree (especially crafting more ammo), then building to the multi- shot skill, since that is really good for easily setting any enemy on fire from stealth by shooting tripple fire arrows. Getting tripple- shot made the tripcasters obsolete, since hunter bows use much cheaper ammo and deal damage just as fast when they can apply fire to enemies.

    People seem to forget that this game is mostly about stealth approach into silent strike / R2 and silent strike OR abuse machines weakness. Thinker is not a must. If you have a powerful coil on a weapon and want to move it over (say a very rare with triple stats) it's useful later on the game if you're a completionist/perfectionist. Having higher stats on bows as you progress helps, but is not a necessity. For example, simply having the tearbast arrow (no coil in your weapon) still does his job of removing parts. Using a weak sling in order to shoot several ice bombs will still freeze the enemy. Aiming for the machine eye/horn/ weak part with precision arrow will do the job just fine and so on. My first playthrought was on normal and I unlocked Thinker towards the end.

    I dabbled with the game on a normal difficulty but eventually stopped playing, just recently started playing again so I started a new game on ultra hard and I gotta say, I am completely prioritising different skills then what you are recommending and I am doing just fine. I am only level 13 at the moment though, so we will see how my play style works out later in the game.
    I have the traveler skill tree as well and I focused on getting up to hoarder. Increasing the chance of getting the required crafting materials sooner has been an immense help early on. A larger pool of ammunition and traps as well as inventory size keeps me focused less on inventory management and more on story, combat and exploration.

    I would have to disagree heavily on no spear skills or the ones for multiple arrow shots - reason being, I more often than not find it is MUCH easier to snipe out the aggressive types from a distance and try to one-shot them if you can using precision arrows (x3 is all the better) and that usually leaves few enemies to worry about on the battlefield by the time that initial sniper style attack is over - I hit them from FAR away and only move in when I've taken out the aggressive types, and with the spear skills when you DO move in on a lone, tougher target once clearing out stragglers from afar, it's much easier to knock it down after dodging the initial attack they try to swing your way. I've been hunting for shell walker hearts by simply running up to the thing while firing a few shock arrows, dodging the first hit and knocking it down then using a critical once down. It's great. No fuss, no muss. But then I'm a much more direct type of person - I'd rather charge in and just go at it once I've cleared out potential annoyances that might interfere than sit around all day trying to pick off the bigger thing with arrows - kill the weak, take the strong head-on. That's the way I like it. I got through about 30 levels like that and it was just fine.

    The benefit of the overide skills for me is a distraction. If your ravager ally is distracting the enemies you can pretty much take out all the enemies that can be one shot by stealth skills. Then if there are enemies that won’t be one shot by you set up some traps stealth strike them lure them into the shock trip wires and shock traps crit hit them then the ally machine will often knock them down allowing for another critical hit taking them out. Them having more health so that they can reliably keep a thunderjaw off you while you stealth kill and hack all the other enemies is very helpful. Also critical hit is very powerful against human enemies as a follow up to a blast sling shot. A single blast bomb can knock down a group of enemies which then you can finish off each with a crit or just heavy attack then crit can be good if are discovered by a single human enemy while stealth killing all of them. So if you are having trouble against a human encounter it can be worth it to pick up.

    one of the few things I strongly disagree with is leaving the right path of 'Brave' until last, i think the 'Knock down' skill might just be one of the best skills there is early game when paired with crit hit+, the combo of dodge and knock over carried me through the majority of my early game fights because early on your bow can do really low damage and firing loads of weak arrows can get expensive when you can just spam crit hits for free, i do feel like my opinion is slightly swayed though as in every game I play im that guy that loves to melee and avoids ranged combat, so from the very beginning i was investing into melee as much as I can, only quite late in the game did my bows actually start to keep up with and overtake my crit spam in efficiency

    While I have to agree that strike from below and tightrope firing are not skills to rush for, they are not entirely useless: both seem to be most applicable against humans.
    The tightrope skill seems to work well in many bandit camps as humans tend to not look up until things are falling on their heads (and if your aim is good, it's too late).
    Strike from below of course is human-only, and I have been able to use it once or twice so far. The trick is knowing how because the game does not give you opportunities on a platter: you have to make them. Although you can't use your focus while hanging from a ledge, you very much can whistle. The rest is left as an exercise to the player ;)
    Also, I watched your play-through and noticed you're not so keen on strike from above. This skill has gotten me out of trouble many times... in ultra-hard (I used it maybe once through my two normal play-throughs). Any time you can get 1-2m above your opponent but still close enough (eg, steep hill, boulders, etc), you will get the opportunity. It is fantastic against scrappers and other small machines. Also, at least against smaller machines from a reasonable height, the attack will break your fall (eg, dropping onto a watcher in a cauldron core). Dropping onto a sawtooth from the top of the red rocks near where you meet Varl before heading to the Ring of Metal is not so good for your health (fumbled a multi-notch and SFAed instead of notched).
    Still, great advice. Unfortunately, Frozen wilds messes it up slightly because I so very much like gathering while mounted. Machine repair is meh, but hoarder helps later in the game.

    You say lure is gold but rocks are easy to find and work just as good if not better cause you can get the machine to go where you want instead of just bringing it to you. You can make good or bad reasons for a lot of skills. The tight rope skill is good when you going through bandit camps where I tend to take the high ground same with death from above. It’s not as good for machine but are great for bandit camps which you don’t say much about when you do it a lot in the game along with fighting machines.

    Early game on Ultra Hard difficulty (anything under Lvl 15 tbh) , Lure Call and Sneak Strike are fucking OP as shit. You just slowly instakill all the machines, and if you want you can even hack a Watcher and watch the world burn

    I appreciate your time, but you're not really explaining what level to get what skills. Are you basically saying get most of the green ones first? cause you proceed to highlight the orange ones too.. Maybe I'm missing it... I'm drinking. thanks for making the video though!

    • @Jambomus

      Xergius - All you need to worry about is buying up the green ones first followed by the orange ones before proceeding onto the next stage. That will make everything fall into place regarding levels as you will find yourself saving skill points to invest into the green or organs skills.

    i guess i play this game different most... still like the slow burn of the Stealth Play to much. I went heavy Prowler and Gathering. I enjoy meticulously thinking about battles planning escape routes if require... That Long Dodge is awesome the Ability to be true ninja just into a bush 10 ft away if your lucky you totally jump from one bush to the next. i would say 85% of the game you can stealth... BTW only play on Ultra Hard... No Switching to get cheaper prices. Gives you something to work towards.

    Gatherer scavenger in my opinion are the first two skills any players should get and as far as you talking about silent strike its useless unless you're playing a stealth build besides critical hit and critical hit plus does more damage than silent strike and gives you more experience

    What you say about the “movement lockout” is so true and is one of the weakest points in the game. There’s also a problem of her sometimes not drawing her bow after you have fired a focus shot. So you aim a vital shot, release the right trigger and nothing. She hasn’t pulled the string back.

    my personal choice was to choose the vegan converter for the human enemies, they are spending so much time telling all the non-converted humans how wonderful it is being vegan that you can easily sneak up to them and take them down.

    По сути все самое важное прокачивается к 33-35 уровню. Все остальное малоэффективно или не особо нужно, не особо много полезного добавляя.
    На ультра сложности важно добивание и свист сразу. И 3 стрелы к 11-12 уровню.
    Раньше делал это к 20-25 уровню и понял, что ошибался, сам пришел к тому, что надо 3 стрелы сделать максимально быстро. Сразу же, как будут прокачаны все нужные первые умения.

    • @lred1383
      @lred1383 3 роки тому

      А смысл вообще в 2х/3х стрелах? Урон в секунду намного хуже чем если ты просто спамишь, точность у таких залпов не стопроцентная, то есть даже на расстоянии, где они по дпсу в теории выигрывают, тройные выстрелы всё равно насасывают. Я прокачал этот навык одним из первых, понял какая это параша, и потом использовал его только чтобы кабанов с одного залпа валить

    • @Rusl_U
      @Rusl_U 3 роки тому

      @@lred1383 что такое "спамишь"? От бедра стреляешь? Ну и в чем разница?
      По времени немного выигрываешь, но точность намного хуже. Чтобы не мазать надо стрелять по большим машинам или в упор (в упор даже в Рыскарей и Падальщиков не удобно, а с большимт в ближнем бою ты подставляешься, они прекрасно убиваются на расстоянии). Какой может быть спам на мелких и подвижных? Если стрелять дешёвыми стрелами ещё и небольшой перерасход боеприпасов идёт. А стихийными или дорогими, типа высокоточки - это вообще не вариант. Там итак не сильно много боеприпасов. Стрелять желательно точно. Плюс в DLC другого типа луки. Они не наносят нормативный вред от стрельбы от бедра. Только полная натяжка. При одиночной и ненатянутой до конца - урон смехотворный.
      Все это ты рассказываешь об ультра сложности?
      Потому, что на 3-4 сложностях можно почти что угодно делать. А на 5 и тем более 6 - уже не все работает. На ультре вообще нехватка боеприпасов.
      Там вообще хаотичная стрельба (от бедра) противопоказана. Ну если у тебя это работает, ок. Мне такой тип атаки не нравится.
      Я прекрасно играю с 3 стрелами. Если для 100% заморозки нужно 3 стрелы, то смысл их стрелять по одной? Аналогично с Пилозубами и Лиходеями, если нужно 3 огненных, зачем я буду стрелять по одной.
      Стрел же укреплённых надо дофига. Удобнее стрелять пачками. А на подвижных и быстрых, типа рыскаря, падальщика или ловчего лучше залпом. Больше шансов попасть хотя бы 2 стрелы. А спамом играл мой друг на 3-й сложности. Мне не понравилось. :) На 5-6 сложности у него бы так не вышло.

    • @Rusl_U
      @Rusl_U 3 роки тому

      @@lred1383 поэтому с моим стилем (да и судя по тому, что многим похоже играют в плане натяжки стрел), лучше качать 3 стрелы максимально быстро. К 12-15 уровню. На ультре это очень важно и удобно.
