And why, for the love of f*ck, they've removed the bosses' life gauges on Nintendo releases?! It blows my mind... Visually and audibly I liked the Sega CD port the most. Never played it though.

Pitfall isn't the type of game I like to spend multiple hours playing in one sitting, so being able to pick up right where I left off makes the Jaguar version the best one for me. You are correct, each system has its specifications and the game code has to be adapted to the different hardware. This may result in different graphics, sound and performance. It was a tedious process (still is but the difference is not that noticeable) and it really shows when you put all ports side to side. For example the SNES had lower resolution but better sound and graphics than the Genesis. Some background effects like scrolling and textures are also different and/or missing. So yeah, sometimes one system would get an inferior port.
@PXLTRON the Genesis does have a unique sound and I agree that a good composer can make all the difference in the world with the hardware. At the end of the day it is a personal preference thing but I don't think SNES games sound the same. actually I'd say that about the Genesis.
The GBA's chipmunk sound effects and higher speed of play is comical. Such a shame the two best looking versions run at 30 FPS (Jag and 32X, the Jag looking the absolute best to me). Therefore from a gameplay and overall sound perspective, the Sega CD version is still the winner. A smooth 60 FPS and decent soundtrack. They could have used the extra power of the system to make it look less dithered though, unfortunately. Still, it plays well. If you can live with 30 FPS and some slowdown on top of that (I can't), the Jag. So pretty.
I think I read that the programmers took the lazy route with the Jaguar port, using the 68000 CPU in it instead of the custom chips that were supposed to drive game logic as well as do the graphics.
The framerate differences are hardly noticeable and I highly doubt anybody noticed any differences at all back in 94/95. The game plays well on all platforms so the barely noticeable framerate differences is a moot point.

Video My favorite visually is the Atari Jaguar. I didn't care for Windows bright colors, this isn't a Disney game. Audio My favorite Audio would have been Sega CD but I felt they went to off course from original audio and wanted to show off and in doing so I feel they lost touch. The Sega Genesis audio was good I loved how halfway through it picks up. This will be an unpopular opinion but after a few times of comparing the Genesis to the 32x I love the slight changes to the 32x so to me it has the best music. The only one I have actually played was the snes version and the music just doesn't do it for me. I just bought the Jaguar version can't wait to try it.
Windows has bright colors where it makes sense. It still has darker levels too like the deep jungle and the mines and ruins. Most of the later levels are darker and still have better colors than console versions
If only one of these versions had a fucking save feature. But I still fondly remember playing this game on my parents' PC back in the late 90s until I got a Playstation. EDIT: Ok apparently only the Jag version had a save feature. even back then Activision were cheap fucks.
This is yet another game I've seen but never played. Its Windows 95 version seems best, followed by its Atari Jaguar and Super NES versions. The least impressive version to me is the Game Boy Advance port; while I don't mind that its background music was left out, the fact that the camera is so zoomed in makes the platforming needlessly difficult.
It was rather nice they thought ahead on that, because in 1995 most of us ran computers that would have never ran it that smooth. Very few people had even Pentiums then. So being able to set quality lower was nice.
Nope. Sega versions are the most fluid. SNES is very close. It’s been documented in other videos. Sega Cd is the best console version overall. Don’t be fooled by a few extra colors on the other versions

Late to the party with this reply, I know, but the bad scrolling on the 32X is a result of the 32X just not being very good at handling scrolling 2D bitmaps like this due to how it worked. In most 32X games like this, the 32X handles the sprites while the Mega Drive handles the scrolling backgrounds because it's better at it, and that's the same case here. However, the 32X also does a lot of the foreground that you see. This creates a mismatch between the Mega Drive backgrounds, which run at 60fps, and the 32X foregrounds, which deviate between 20-30fps. That's why the scrolling looks so bad.
Can't agree. Although, statically, the visuals look a little nicer (ie: when it's paused) the game runs and, thus, plays dreadfully compared to the MD, SNES and MCD versions. Only benefit to the Jag version is the save game function 🤷♂️

@@Marc_Araujo Cool! although I checked and both versions have the same amount of levels, I don't know if some are extended though. I think I wouldn't care enough for the rest but thanks for the reply.
@@Japie__ Check out the video Digital Foundry made on Pitfall...really good retrospective video on the game and all its ports.
@@Marc_Araujo 32x, PC (it has CD ost as well) and Jag has new/extended levels too. The only exclusive thing Sega CD ha is the intro.
I don’t have a console to play it on so I use emulators but none of the ones that I know of have the Sega CD version
Sega génesis and Sega CD is better. 60fps
So is PC.
Video
My favorite visually is the Atari Jaguar. I didn't care for Windows bright colors, this isn't a Disney game.
Audio
My favorite Audio would have been Sega CD but I felt they went to off course from original audio and wanted to show off and in doing so I feel they lost touch.
You can adjust colors on PC and it has Sega CD music.
GBA color was more bright because first model dont have backlight LCD😅😅😅
FOR ME,THE SNES VERSION IS BETTER!
If only one of these versions had a fucking save feature. But I still fondly remember playing this game on my parents' PC back in the late 90s until I got a Playstation.
EDIT: Ok apparently only the Jag version had a save feature. even back then Activision were cheap fucks.
PC version was saving levels automatically and you could choose them from a window dedicated menu. Also cheats can be used in all versions.
Man I feel spoiled, grew up on the Windows 95 version, some of these ports are butchered 💀
Although i agree with you, its the opposite. The windows is a upgraded version from the originals (SNES and Genesis).
The pc version is the best. It even has extra levels
my bro had the gba version and never beat it because it was tough
This is yet another game I've seen but never played. Its Windows 95 version seems best, followed by its Atari Jaguar and Super NES versions. The least impressive version to me is the Game Boy Advance port; while I don't mind that its background music was left out, the fact that the camera is so zoomed in makes the platforming needlessly difficult.
Nah, don’t be fooled by a few extra colors. Best console version is the Sega CD one.
The Jaguar version runs very choppy. Only the 32X runs worse.
Windows 95 version is way too bright and colorful.
@@Bubba__Sawyer You can set brightness and colors to your liking on PC.
@@saturndual32 Programmers were lazy and used the 68000 CPU in the Jaguar instead of its custom chips to drive game logic.
The best version is objectively the PC version.
i thinked that this is a remake of pitfall! from atari
the graphics of the windows version are better, but the animations of the super Nintendo version are the most fluid of all.
It was rather nice they thought ahead on that, because in 1995 most of us ran computers that would have never ran it that smooth. Very few people had even Pentiums then. So being able to set quality lower was nice.
yes,the snes version is by far the best in scroll and animation, only megadrive/segacd version is near but with very inferior color.
Nope. Sega versions are the most fluid. SNES is very close. It’s been documented in other videos. Sega Cd is the best console version overall. Don’t be fooled by a few extra colors on the other versions
I had the Windows 95 version. Animation is very fluid, a lot more than the SNES version. The Sega versions are also smooth, but the Win95 is the best version of all.
Nope. If you adjust settings properly on PC you get fluid animations on it.
SNES has the best console soundtrack in my opinion. Will never forget this game.
Sega CD soundtrack is FAR better. Nintendo fanboys are something else...
@@Bubba__Sawyer Nah. The CD/Win95 soundtrack is good, but the synths do not fit the theme in my opinion, especially on songs like Ceiba Jungle and Yaxchilan Lagoon. SNES has higher quality instrument samples than Genesis.
I love how you have to use the word "fanboy" to interact with someone that has a different opinion than you. Means you aren't worth the time.
Pitfall original atari 1982
More arcade ports video?
This game didn't have an arcade port...
@@wishusknight3009 i mean I recommend for the Uploader to upload more arcade port comparison
@@wishusknight3009 even if it did, it would probably be pretty terrible. Just with better sprites, music, and the works.
Of course we will do!
@@maestr02.06 I know.. It is just a Monday morning sarcasm fail on my part. I was also going to make a comment about there being an obligatory ZX spectrum port (even though I know its the original pitfall!). But I realized that it was so awful that its worse than even the 2600 version of the original.
How can the 32x have such crap scrolling?!
I think the 32X doesn’t know how to handle 2D graphics properly. That’s why.
Pitfall atari 2600 pls
Jaguar is by far the superior version
Can't agree.
Although, statically, the visuals look a little nicer (ie: when it's paused) the game runs and, thus, plays dreadfully compared to the MD, SNES and MCD versions. Only benefit to the Jag version is the save game function 🤷♂️
I think the soundtrack on the windows/sega CD version is far better, so no.
gba is horrible. megadrive and snes are ok. pc looks better.
Good thing the Genesis had all those add-ons, so we could choose between three nearly identically playing versions of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure.
Not really...
Only the Sega CD is near identical. Just that the sound's better. I mean, the fucking 32X version is choppy as hell
I owned the GBA version and didn't know it was a port until I watched this, I thought it was just some sloppily made game
Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive version should’ve looked and sounded better
on bigger (larger) cart than 16 megs > 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 megabits
In my humble opinion Windows is 1st place, SEGA CD is 2nd and Atari Jaguar is 3rd. Why the SNES version is so dark? GBA is a bad port, just makes no justice with its capabilities.
Sega Versions is Dark...
For me the best version is for Jaguar
Sega cd best.
32x and GBA are the worst.
32ok
32x graphics look good, but the framerate sucks.
next time you do a comparison you should leave the platform you are curently showing at the bottom of the screen. saves people from having to click around 20 minutes of footage to try and see different versions they are looking for to compare. No clue which version of the game im looking at unless i literally sit here and watch through the entire damn video just to see which platform you are currently showing when you pop it up on screen for 2 seconds and then its gone
windows
WIn95 wins
Compare pitfall original
Once again pc winning all consoles
I'm play this game yesterday haha.... I'm not like this game ;-;
I don't like anything about this game. I'd rather play NES Super Pitfall over this.
I don’t even think the games that good, so why were there so many ports?
One Word : Money
