GOLDEN AXE is a legendary classic Arcade game 😺👍🕹️. Amiga is the best arcade conversion, I have ever played 😺👍🕹️. I have also played the Commodore 64 and Sega MegaDrive versions of this game. The Commodore 64 version of this game is not a bad conversion - except for the three things: - there is only 1-player mode - it has four levels, which makes this version shorter than the other versions - it only has one same in-game music. Thank you 😸😺👍.
Like all conversions of Sega games the Amiga version was very disappointing and didn't take full advantage of the machine's capabilities. With talented programmers like Factor 5 , Psygnosis or Team17 I'm sure there was a way to get very close to the quality of the arcade version.
@@pumpum800, yep, but back then the coin op conversion had a major issue: little budget in terms of both time and money - they were meant to be rushed to the market ASAP and that was all. Original games were on another level because of this.
The Magic attacks is one of the things I look foward the most on the upcoming Golden Axe. I hope it can live up to the spectacle the original trilogy had.
The sequel for PS3, Golden Axe Beast Rider is often trashed by critics. But it faced all kind of obstacles during development and yet for the limited budget, I feel they did a decent job. Visually it is not stunning for modern standards, but the game mechanics and the difficulty of the game honors the original. I read so many reviews trashing it so I expected to play once and send it to the shelf forever. But no. I find myself playing it from time to time. And that says something. Just like in the original, you need to press the proper keys and react at the right moment to succeed in your moves. The difference is that fights do not happen along a single line like in the original. Enemies can come from different directions. Just like with the original, you need to be persistent and react in time.
I was thinking a lot about whether to put this version with music or not, but since the protagonist in this video is magics I wanted to show how they sounded.
I only played the PC-DOS version, but got I've nice memories of it, unfortunately I couldn't finished it, i was like 9 years old I think and it was way too hard for me.
There is Dosbox to emulate DOS in modern systems. DBGL allows you to have a graphical interface to save typing console commands. And the game shows up as abandonware.
The ports never equaled the original game, of course it is clear that the arcade Golden Axe differs quite a bit from Megadrive. In addition, the ports generally programed by different and modest game studios and did not have the same level of programing. They had to recover what they invested, so they were limited even by cartridge size.
interesting the casting sprites are different for nearly every one, by that I mean different poses, even using the weapons instead of their hands in some cases!
At some point, do you think you could do version comparison videos for the 1986 Batman &/or the 1988 Batman: The Caped Crusader games by Ocean? The 1986 game was released for Amstrad PCW & CPC, ZX Spectrum, & MSX, & Caped Crusader was released for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Apple II, MS-DOS, & ZX Spectrum.
Hey, sorry for the late response. I made the 1986 Batman comparison a long time ago: ua-cam.com/video/fpMsguiWqmo/v-deo.html I put Batman: The Caped Crusader on the list, thx!
If they couldn't implement the music into the game then it really shouldn't have been ported, the music is one of the best parts to Golden Axe. I'm shocked by the dreamcast version, how did they fuck up that badly with the sound. The WonderSwan Color version is surprisingly good. The GBA version is a mixed bag, a faithful recreation would have been better than trying to port it as the GBA has always had issues porting sega games to it. It may be a strange complaint but the PS2 version is too flashy but not a bad remake at all. The 360/PS3 versions are good ports of the arcade version though I'm not a fan of the smoothing effect for the sprits to make them less blocky, it removes them from the terrain like someone put a transparent overlay on the scream which has the player and enemies on it. The visuals and music for the mobile version are very nice but the lack of any other sound is very off putting, it's very strange that it doesn't have effect sounds.
The Megadrive is good graphically but the sound does not have the same impact as the arcade. The master system manages to impress me, sound and visuals on the magic are pretty damn impressive for the system. C64 has great magic but unfortunately it is the best part of the game. Wonderswan Colour is very faithful to the arcade. The music in the J2ME version sounds great.

Wtf is wrong with the PS2 version movements? They look so strange and stiff! Oh god, the 360 version is horrid... Many thanks for doing this. Was a good watch!
Internet weanies crap on this game, but it's one of my all-time favorites. I grew up playing the arcade game. In the Arcades. (Warning: You don't have to read any comment ever and I'll do it my way, thanks in advance) Arcade means covered walk way with arches lining it...its the building not the game. Dont call them "Arcades." Also, it really is a record and never a "vinyl." Unless you are differentiating a shellac 78 rpm from a 45 or 33 1/3 vinyl record. An album is called an album because it is an album of records. It was a book of ten inch shellac records. Later RCA made the 45 rpm vinyl record and Columbia made the 33 1/3 vinyl record. You could buy a set of them called an album of records. Comparing them retroactively to later mediums this way is unnecessary. A CD or Tape isn't a "record" unless you are a DJ who records records onto other recordings so you call it like it is. Otherwise, there isn't another kind of record, so just say record like everyone always did. You don't have magic different recods that are not vinyl. All records are vinyl and no other recorded mediums are called records. It's just not debatable. It sounds stupid because it is. Just like people who talk $#!% about this game. Consider this a Pubic Service Announcement from a guy who enjoys being pissed off all the time. Enjoy!
