My 82 year old grandmother Heard me watching this and she was sing every word (that martin & lewis Sang ) and she was dancing she said when ever the Martin&Lewis show was on she'd watch it from the 1st Radio Show To Tv show and the movies
Dean had had enough of Jerry's bullying. It was "open warfare" according to Angie Dickinson. Dean nearly left on one other occasion, but was convinced by his agent to stay, so Dean did, only if the writers that Jerry had hired to flatter himself, were fired. And it was done.
Omg Dean's high kicks at 3:11 . He's really going for it. I love when Jerry starts the screaming when Dean is singing, and Dean starts to lose it. So funny!
I have this on dvd, watched it so many times and still can not get enough of this clip:) It is just the best with so much fun from Dean and Jerry. Thank you for reminding me watch it again .. love it !!
Love Martin and Lewis.. and I don't care if people think Jerry was annoying or not.. I adore him and his talent, and his heart and I think he was pretty damn hilarious for the times back then. children and adults loved him, I've loved him since I was a child and still do at 34 years old
Pamela Maloof I still do at almost 60. The broke up 2 years before I was born, so I never got to know them as a team. I am loving getting to know how funny they was together.
People don’t realize that was the act. Jerry was supposed to be annoying but it was all apart of Jerry’s act & Dean knew it that’s how they made their whole act work. No matter what anybody says or think they loved each other until the day Dean passed & beyond. Dean & Jerry were never really apart. I talked to Deana Martin she said They were like brothers.
blackwhite perro Well Dean had a pretty good career lasting almost fifty years singing his own music, and as a fine actor, TV star with his own long running and very popular Variety Show and a very funny comedian in his own right, and he was also an indispensable member of the legendary Rat Pack. And he (along with Frank, Perry Como, Ella, Peggy Lee and many others from that era) somehow managed all that without the aid of rock and roll....
I really like this and i have this song on my phone and whenever it plays i laugh by just remembering the colgate comedy i'm young and i know it but still is for everyone to watch free so great show i love it ❤ 😜

The bell boys are Elvis’s hound dog version. Elvis went to see them and they sang hound dog and Elvis asked them if he could do there version of hound dog 😁
+whitefalcon64 Well, in this episode they are introduced as Freddie Bell and the Bellhops (actually, Jerry goofs, it's Bellboys). The full episode is on UA-cam as Colegate Comedy Hour - S6E1 and they come on around 49:48. Not meaning to correcct, just watching it for the first time right now and remembered seeing your comment earlier today. Figured you might be a fan and want to know :) cheers!
La Penserosa Thanks for your info. I'm Spanish and I wasn't born actually, but I love Mike Pedicin for more than 30 years long, and in my country is not easy to get his recordings.
This clip shows why it was no mystery why Martin & Lewis broke up. While both were very talented, Jerry was determinedly low brow and broad in comedy and never stopped being at that level. Also, he took up all the oxygen, not leaving Dean any room for his own comic gifts. Now where is my fergenschlugger seltzer bottle?

Back in those days, the older White generation ,thought that R&B music , was a Black American fad , and would had been finished in a few months You can tell they try to make R&B music some kinda joke..
That's not true at all. There's nothing "joking" about this clip, it's legit rock and roll, but it's not a polished performance. White people, older generation definitely thought rock and roll was black music, and thought it was too sexual.
Not funny, just a bully. We figure he was trying to be Bugs Bunny. If there had never been a Sid Caesar, there would be no Lewis. I find him boring in the extreme. Occasionally funny, because of Dean. Nasty bullying person, by all accounts, and according to dozens of people. He ruined a friendship with a kind, considerate, talented, gorgeous man - Dean Martin. And Dean was funnier, but more subtle.
James Field Thinking about it, I feel that this may have been more Jerry's style of music than Deans. It says this was filmed in 1955, when Dean would have been 38 and Jerry 10 years younger. And Dean was, of course, a more traditional 'crooner' than a rock'n roller. But having said that, he still gives a pretty good performance, even though he must have felt out of his comfort zone.
They were having fun for godsake. They didn't "hate" rock and roll, Dean Martin was Elvis' favourite singer. Elvis christened him "King of Cool". He told Dean's daughter: "they call me the King, but your dad is the King of Cool." And Elvis was rock and roll; and it's thought that he was influenced by Dean's singing.
