The official description of the horizontal stand on Sonys old website: "The Horizontal Stand raises the PlayStation 2 system slightly and performs the important function of looking cool."
Exactly. Don't know why anyone would want to see a video about the PS5 Pro, when it was already outdated before it even came out. If you want true 4K 120Hz gaming, you need to build a PC, plain and simple. The point I'm making is that I much rather see videos that cover retro tech if you're not going to cover the latest tech. Nobody cares about the PS5 Pro.
Modern console version differences are not very interesting topic. "This slightly more costly version runs a little bit more frames. And this one is missing physical media player". Thats it. Utterly pointless nonsense if you might be a pc gamer mostly like me.
You don't need 120 Hz. The human eye can perceive more than 20fps anyway. That's why movies in cinemas look so cinematic. They're at the perfect frame rate 🌈 @@Psythik

25 years later and the PS2 still looks futuristic. The late 90s early 2000s really was more futuristic than the actual future. everything back then just looked more futuristic in general
I had both the horizontal and vertical stands but ultimately went with horizontal use because of my TV stand. I liked the look of the extra blue in the front. Totally boss. Sony's PS2 design still has not been surpassed by their subsequent consoles.
I had a cat back in the day that would rub up against my PS2 and keep knocking it over, but with the stand it was sturdy and never got knocked over by the cat again.
Honestly it's crazy how much blue was used for the ps2. I genuinely wonder if they wanted to make the Console Blue but were told noooo it needs to be plain black. So they then went on a blue rampage on everything else.
I just want to say, I've been watching you for about ten years, but the first six or so were just your Sims reviews. At the beginning of the lockdowns, I was hospitalized and out of desperation for something to watch, I started watching your old tech reviews/rebuilds. I knew NOTHING about computer hardware. Now, I think I understand maybe 2/3s of what you cover in them? My brain will forever first associate "PS2" with a PlayStation before a plug-in port though, so watching this made me chuckle.
I see a lot of 3D printed stands, but nothing comes close to the real thing because of that blue finish. Perfectly captures the 2000s futurism that sixth gen consoles like the PS2 emitted.
I do have to agree, the PS2 was (and still is) a great looking design. Especially with that vertical stand (as impractical as I feel it being used in a vertical position would have been).
I had it vertical. I suppose if you have a pet that might knock it over it would be impractical, but for things like inserting disks it was designed to work well in both orietations.
@@gabrieldias3479Fun bit of trivia: the PS2 case actually cites an unreleased Atari Falcon Microbox as a major influence, and... yeah, it's immediately obvious if you see a pic of both side by side.
The horizontal stand my girlfriend also had, it was to keep air flow under the unit and also in our case protect it from spills, I must have tipped over hundreds of cans of root beer around that thing.
My older brother bought a used PS2 when we were kids that came with the vertical stand. I still have both stored away, and JUST learned watching this video that the lil PS logo on the console rotates!! Mind blown!
I was searching videos of this exact same stand on UA-cam a few days ago because the blue gradient looks very lovely and it really compliments the original PS2 model, but the results couldn't satisfy my curiosity, it seems like you uploaded this in the right time lol. Was not aware there is a horizontal one, love it because it looks so silly!
Ha! I was searching for stand videos as well right before recording, and since I didn’t find much I decided to film this. So I’m sure we saw the same lackluster results 😄
Thank Sony that we got this beautiful console when Atari would not release the Atari Falcon 030 Microbox. Such a beautiful design for the early 2000's and it still hold up!
Honestly I don't know of anyone who had one of these stands back in the day, we always just stood it vertically without the stand (it's what I do with mine today). But dang it, I want one now! Since I have adult money now, I shall have it!
I never realized the horizontal stand was an actual accessory. I'd seen images of it before, but always assumed it was just a design element from early prototypes that eventually got removed.
thanks for this!! also satisfies a curiosity I never could as a kid. I always thought the blue stand came standard with the system and I'd just lost mine, did not know it was a separate accessory. I also love the look of this, and that lovely black and blue (da ba dee) color scheme
I wish Sony would go back to using that PS2 font and that blue colour for a future console. That PS2, especially in that stand still looks very modern.
I think I owned two or three of those old PS2's back in the day because the disk drive would crap out eventually. Luckily at that time, Gamestop offered $50 for any working or non functioning units, so getting a new (used) one was easy.
I got a horizontal stand a couple of years ago. It *is* very silly, but it appeared in a bunch of early promo images, and that weird, airy ambience of the PS2's first year means a lot to me. Very grateful to have a machine that better evokes Ridge Racer V and Fantavision.

I got lucky and got the stand with a used PS2 fat I got a few years back. It really does complete the look, it just looks strange to me to stand it vertically without it.

I never had a PS2 when they were new, and figured they all came with the stands. Sounds like that's not true.
The original PS5 is the only Sony console that actually came packaged with a stand to my knowledge. The slim technically has little leg things that function as a horizontal stand too I guess.
I've never seen these in person. Everyone I knew who had a vertical PS2 just... stood them on end. They had to hold it with both hands when inserting discs 😅 Nintendo were very sensible to, yk, _bundle_ the Wii's stand. People actually used it!
I want the origin of the horizontal stand to be a fight between two designers and the malicious compliance that fell out from it. Let's say #1 designed the console to be horizontal with a blue "foot" in front and he was very pleased. #2 suggested that it should be capable of being vertical too, but that means the foot is an ugly protrusion so let's get rid of it and turn it into a mount to stabilise the vertical orientation! And #1 angry that he lost his blue foot demanded an optional accessory to put it back where it belongs, in the horizontal orientation like it should be. And the executives fearing violence decided to greenlight it in all its pointlessness.
I bought this exact package in Surugaya, Shinjuku Marui Annex when I was visiting Japan. Only cost ¥800 in comparison to the coloured variants of the stand which now cost more than a system.
The original PS was lay flat on carpets which caused overheating so kids started putting them vertically. So the trends spreaded to later Playstations.
The thing with the Horizontal Stand is they stopped making it when they re-designed the OG PS2 once or twice. They gave it more ventilation that’s blocked by the stand’s plastic trim. If you want it to be “proper”, you’d probably need an early-early PS2. Not sure on specific model numbers.
Like this if you can't stand it.
