I'm glad to see you back to what you do best: showing us sweet model aircrafts :)
I was a little boring with all these ImmersionRC/Fatshark advertisings!
Anyway, great flight performance as usual! Mr. Bixler was on fire on this one lol
Welcome on board to Logan ;)
    Happy flying

I have on of these, and switched out the Rx before ever taking it up in the air (Orange Futaba Rx). It still flies beautifully, and honestly I'm happy I don't have to worry about AS3X taking control of the plane. You don't have to worry about oscillation when switching from 3D maneuvers to speed/precision acrobatics either. The SAFE/AS3X stuff is really cool, but there should really be an "OFF" mode for advanced pilots!
I wish they had offered a Plug-and-Play version, but after selling the Rx on eBay I came out about where I would have anyways.
Thanks for the great videos. You guys do great reviews, so it's nice to see you getting back to them. The other videos are cool, but a review every week or two would be nice.

I have about 30 flights already on mine and it still looks brand new! I fly everything from ultra micro helis and airplanes up to 90mm edf jets and 700 size cp helis. 30 aircraft in my hanger and NO 3d planes until this one! I bought it because I love all the new spektrum receivers with AS3x and SAFE. I own several of each. And I use a Spektrum DX18 with all of my aircraft. I'm so glad I bought this plane instead of the 48" 3D hobby shops edge. Mainly because after a few flights I can honestly say the panic button (oh crap button) has saved me more than 5 good crashes. And crashes that would have destroyed a balsa plane. I have now learned waterfalls, harriers upright and inverted, hovering, flat spins inverted and upright. And my personal favorite the wicked knife edges! With more and more flights of learning 3d flogging with this wicked little plane I gain more and more confidence and look forward to buying a pretty new 3d hobby shop bird. Top notch for learning 3d and staying in the air flying! Super durable!!!!

Am glad I stumbled with this episode, just acquired this airplane second hand and was freaked out about the noisy servos.
Turns out they are digital servos and make that sound, its normal after all.
This airplane is very subtle for a low wing, can go from a docile ship to a full 3-D show when ready to do so. The one thing I recommend is strengthen the landing gear a little, place rubber spacers on the sides of the legs, and some foam glue between the foam and the plastic landing support to prevent play.

I just bought the sukhoi after a break from models of about 20 years. it is flying awesome. I can't believe how far this foam electric stability technology has come. one point however, in stagility mode the plane has a very disconcerting bump down every time the sticks are neutralised. I'm going to try precision mode next flying session, like you suggested in the vid, can't wait.

Ok, so it isn't a spring purchase. A local hobby shop gave me a great deal on one, so I bought it.
Setup with the DX9 was a bit awkward and I almost lost it on maiden.
Now that I have it all setup, she's a great plane! I really enjoy flying it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get into 3D.

  • @lasse2071
    @lasse2071 10 років тому

Reasons why I don't watch your videos as much as I did in the beginning:
    -a lot less builds
-you don't do as many funny challenges (that such fail sometimes and then be revisited)
    -too much quad-stuff
-not enough relevant content for the pilot that can fly dollartree airplanes and the bixler, but want to take a step further (aka me)
-and also, I miss davids crazy projects!
-You guys probably heard this a 1000 times, but when are you going to sell lasercut foam kits from europe or just figure out a way too ship them cheaper? :) I will probably always be a fan of you because flitetest is like pizza, even if it sucks, it still pretty good! THANK YOU, from Lasse in Denmark!

This plane is so incredibly stable!! I've had mine for almost a year now, and actually won a Fun Fly competition at our local flying club with it. The challenge was to take off, go around the pattern once and land with a cup of water strapped to the top. Whoever landed with the most water left wins. I landed with almost a full cup!! The trick was I took off and kept the plane in a level flat turn. I only ever fly it in Precision Mode. I need to use the assisted 3D mode more. The Stagility, I've found, is almost useless unless you want the plane to fly away! With the old DX7 Tx, the gear switch is your "Oh Crap!" switch. Never take off with that on!! I absolutely LOVE this plane and HIGHLY recommend it to any intermediate pilot wanting to transition into 3D. Worth every penny!!!

Nice Review guys. I have had a few issues with this plane and some advice.
1: The Panic mode on the DX6i doesn't seem to work properly. Trainer switch does nothing. Seems to be a somewhat common issue from the forum posts I've seen.
2: With a DX6i you are limited to 2 modes at a given time (no 3 position switch)
3: I had one issue over this weekend. I checked all flight control surfaces prior to takeoff, but at about 100 feet off the ground I lost pitch and ailerons. Nursed her back, checked everything, and found nothing wrong. Relaunched and she worked fine.
4: The latch for the cockpit doesn't work all the time. Be careful if your putting a camera in there. You may want to have a secondary means of holding the cockpit on.
5: like the manual says, "Stagility and 3D modes to low speeds." I don't know if the ASX3 responds differently on different airplanes, but mine wants to pitch down quite aggressively at higher speeds in stagility mode.
6: Moving the battery back to the back of the battery/ESC chord bay gives more elevator authority in Precision made. Makes landings much cleaner.
All in all she seems to be a pretty solid airplane. So far mine has survived a crash in a tree and a few hard landings. Contrary to some forum posts I think the gear does really well with grass, but I would get some Du-bro 3" wheels or something similar.
Any suggestions on binding with a DX6i? I tried calling parkzone / Horizon, but was on hold and decided to go fly!!!

i took out the AR636 SAFE receiver and put in a AR400 and it has a tendency to stall alot when large throw of the elevator is given, it also drops the wings as well. but i love the vertical power and hovering is very easy even with out the gyros.

I appreciate you do reviews again, liked this vid.
Being german I'd like to have Josh B. talk a BIT slower, I understand the others quite well, but with Josh B. 'MachineGunSpeed' I often get lost :-(
I'd love to see more on gliders. An episode about 4 flap glider(s), showing the basics of differential, camber/reflex, snapflap, quadro, crow, etc, how and why these are programmed, used and tuned in flight would be of interest.
And as many others I miss David.
Keep up your good work, greetings from Germany, Wolfgang

OH....I like the FPV Cockpit view. Now I'm gonna have to cut up my canopy and stick a camera in there! Great review and vid. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago and have about 25 flights on it. Such a nice plane to play 3D with and that Oh Crap button sure lets me get low and aggressive. Wish you would have done a low pass like the Delta Ray video. This SU-26 does an incredible snap roll to level out. Just keep the power on and it will work. SAFE doesn't bring it to perfectly level but close enough to recover and keep on flying.
Stock CG with a 2200 was too far forward for me. Nose kept dropping like in your video so I brought the battery further back til it was perfectly level at 75% throttle. I'm using a 3300 which flies for 9-10 mins with mixed 3D and Precision mode.
I liked the Visionaire much better for learning 3D but this Sukhoi with precision mode lets me get speed runs and handles much better in high winds. Now it's time to FPV it!

Cool review guys! You guys really respect and pay attention to your community, but you have to remember, most of what you are going to see is negative feedback, while very few people leave positive feed back. I liked seeing the the episodes from the European meet up and all the multirotor stuff. I think sometimes that you take feedback a little too quickly. But either way, i always enjoy your content. Keep up the good work guys.

    • @FliteTest

Thanks for your input Sherman. I agree that it is best to take feedback but always filter through the "big picture". For an example, there will be lots of comments like "why don't you guys fly quads anymore?" "we want more lets flys" etc on this very video. We get hundreds of bits of feedback every day and we do our best to aggregate that into something that is useful and helpful. Cheers!

Thanks you guys for also putting the metric measurements in the specs! (although, the wing area could/should be in sq cm rather than decimeters. dm is hardly ever used although it is a completely valid denotation. Which is weird from a linguistic point of view. Decimeters are not used in the decimal system =)

We would like to eventually! the tough part is that the multirotor technology changes so quickly, we would hate to waste time and energy in a series that would quickly be obsolete. • @gordonhobbyrc1018

It’s kinda funny actually, I started flying with 3 channels planes so just throttle elevator and rudder, which was on the champ. I bought a FMS 3D plane, I think it was the mxs rochobby or something, and that was the very first 4 channel plane I ever flew, and although I learned to ease on the controls since it was super twitchy, i totally learned A LOT of control on that plane, and the 3D level of thrust helps you get out of sticky situations. I feel like 3D planes are a good “level up” plane for someone who has flown in simulators and understands aileron control/ 4 channel. I started out as yank and bank on my plane and evolved to learn tricks using the rudder and everything, or throttle to control pitch lol.
This video is old so my comment may never be seen, but if you see this or read the whole thing hit that like button lol.

Comparo time they just release the ultimate2 not to long ago, I think an intermediate 3D comparison of the two would be awesome.

Would this be a good next step after flying the apprentice? I really want to get into 3d. And could I just use the 5 channel transmitter the apprentice came with?

Hey guys, love your channel. Just got into flying. I've been a 1/10 and 1/8 racer for years. Was looking for something to do in between rounds and found a UMX P3 Revolution at a swap meet. Not a good first plane! Poor little guy haha.
Well fast forward and I got bit by the bug bad. I just picked up a Valiant and a Sukhoi Gen 2. Awesome planes. I was wondering if you could do a Flite Test review on the E-flite Sukhoi SU-29MM Gen 2 for us?

@3:02 Josh says Stagility mode is position 1 but the manual says: AS3X 3D Mode: Switch position 1...or at least that is how I am seeing it. I'll find out later when I maiden mine, hopefully I have it set up correct! Edit: After second thought..maybe me meant position 1 meaning 0 on the controller which is 1 of 3 positions.

I bought one after watching this review. Great model and lots of fun. Thanks for the demo. Have you done or could you do a review on the Pulse XT 15e? It is a good aerobatic trainer and really stable.

right. i'm new and can fly 3d on a sim, but this would be the least risky for me in real flight on the field. it's this or the pa addictionx for me. now that I've watched this demo, i'm leaning this.

hi, I would want to ask a question, I have purchased the sukhoi 29mm, I have made the settings as from manual, with transmitting DX6i, but it is normal that the Trottle has delay since 50%?
