Man, this format is awesome! More like this please! So awesome to have the community feedback, and get so many different perspectives and opinions. Awesome.
One thing I like about you guys is you get out there with the people and put your gear to the test, as well as teaching new be's what to look out for in their first pick. so thank you.
so here is what happened. hobbyking sponsored flite test in the early beginning and named a plane after josh, it became popular, really popular. flite test dropped hobby king as a sponsor to become more impartial to reviews. Hobby king spat its dummy out and dropped the three letters from joshes name so that people recognize it but it is no longer associated with josh in order to make a statement. in turn josh bashes it a bit more than he usually would but still likes it and buys three of them to show who is the bigger man. the end :)
lets all order from hobby kink from now on
How cool, you finally upload your Bix3 review on the same day that my Bix3 arrives :)
I have the kit, and haven't decided what power plant to use yet.
Great video, thanks guys
Wonderful review guys!!! Great seeing you back Josh!!
Which one lol
I'd stopped watching your reviews because they seemed to be just ad's, but this one with all the different opinions including your own has made me rethink, I have lots of foamies including B1 and B2, and I will consider a kit version of this so I can mount the servo's on the outside, thank you for a great review.
i really liked the review thanks for having me in there
Ok guys, time for a Bix-off!!
You have 3 versions of the Bixler now and have briefly mentioned the differences, but now you have a chance to do a challenge. In the spirit of one of my favourite tv shows, Top Gear, you can have a challenge handed to you to compare and find the best of the Bix's.
Challenge #1 could be; First to un-pack from new, assemble & get airborne.
#2, speed challenge, first to a set altitude, say 300/500ft.
#3, once all at altitude, shut off the motors and the last unpowered to land wins.
#4, Fit a tow hook & scoop in low to hook a tow banner. This challenges low speed manoeuvrability & pulling power.
I'm sure you can come up with your own challenges but I think this would make a great show as well as putting all three to the test to find which one is best.
Love your shows guys. I hope they keep coming.
I really liked that you got the chance to have the community fly the plane and give their opinions. But for a review you missed one element - the specs =).
Ahhhh busted.
Specs are in the article: flitetest.com/articles/bix3-community-review
FliteTest Can you come to Columbia some time
FliteTest PLEASE do a review of the Durafly exf racer!
Put me down as wanting to see the Durafly exf too!
Me three...100mph for 138$
I've been flying this plane often, it's just so nice, even with FPV rig installed. I recently boxed and shipped mine via UPS to the west coast where I moved, survived well and flies smooth :) It's a nice step up from my Bixler1.1 which lacked carbon fiber and such, but had some amazing speed!
Glad you are enjoying it!
FliteTest Are you ever gonna do a review on the Team BlackSheep Caipirinha?
Sonic Orb Studios
I like the new wing shape. Do I see slightly less dihedral than before? My bix2 flew very nicely after I flattened the wing tips by approx 75%. Loads more lift!
I got a Bix 3 and installed the T1000 controller from Hobbyking. Now this plane is used for introducing 1st timers to RC flying and a lot of them have taken up the sport. So far we have flown this plane in 40+ kph winds and it still flies good.
+Cyclonex1CA Sorry I have no idea if it does. one thing that I have not done is try this on a fast plane. Not sure how the responds will be like. The self level does work fast enough. A down point is that I have not found out how to turn it off in flight. So it will not roll or loop as the T1000 restricts pitch and roll to only 45 degs so you cannot go inverted.
Heh! Nice flip from Mr. Cameraman at 8:40.
What quad and setup do you use as your chase platform, can you do a show on that? Awesome shots
My flaps were also "flappy" lol, so I guess they all come like that. I had no choice but to install the flaps hardware/servos... just to keep them still. I've done a few modifications to mine including moving the servos to the rear and cutting out some foam inside (where the landing gear plastic "holder" glues in" so I can have more room for LiPos up front. Mine was the kit version so no issues with the motor shaft either.
Does any one else notice that alex is just a beast of a pilot when it comes to getting the shot? Excellent flying
I wouldn't mind seeing a video about his gear copters and flight techniques as he Flys very different from David
Wow.... The best review this far. You guys really make the hobby what it is FUN
Have you guys ever thought on making an indoor swappable? It would be very convenient since fall has come and the weather isn't as good as it is in summer.
I'd like to see a Bix3 FPV episode.
love coming home and seeing you guys posted a new vid
Question: Where should the CG be on the wings? I agree with Josh it seems like it should be tail heavy with a 2200 full forward and have seen others weighting the nose.
Great video! How would this compare to Walkera E-Eyes?
Yes! Thanks for another amazing video flitetest! Congrats on almost getting 200k!!!!
Ive been flying almost 3years and mainly fly warbirds but got this just for a change of pace and taking video. Great plane, great review guys.
I love this episode guys what a great idea to let the community get a crack at the plane and giving there feelings on it BTW is there a extended episode I could sworn wasn't there more people there on the lines waiting to fly??
could you guys maybe make an annual announcement video for all the events that you will do? because next year I really want to drive out to Joe Nall and Flite Fest.
also, I live in NYC and had no idea you guys were at the maker faire. so next year a list or video with dates would be awesome
They wanted to put up a list on the website which events they are planning to attend next year if I recall correctly. It's not there yet though.
Balu next year, 2016?
border collie21 games My comment was from 2 months ago :)
I struggled with my cg, could be because mine was a arf, with different running gear, perhaps in hind sight that might of been my issue, I ended up putting 180 in 20c coins in AUS money, up in the nose and a battery forward, with flaps I just have to pick a line and it lands itself. Great air frame. The decals don't like sticky hands.
I'd like to see a comparison from you guys on the Bix3 vs the Firstar 1600.
Is that Alex flying camera? Dude is getting really good whoever it is.
Yes, it's Alex Zvada. He even managed to not hit the planes even though it looked quite close a few times ;).
I was about to comment the same thing! I scrolled through to see if anyone else thought so as well. I didn't feel sick once! Good work. I just started flying a tricopter myself and have a whole new respect for folks who can pull off air to air footage.
Balu What are you guys using for that gorgeous aerial footage? First I though it was just the a Bix with the panel mount cam, but then I seen footage of the aero's chasing a camera that was clearly ahead. Was it a rear mounted camera or a multicopter? Have you ever done a behind the scenes to show the amount of hours or labor force required to get such great footage in air?
Joshua Nulton Alex is flying a 250 size FPV quad to get air to air footage like that. He used to fly a Blackout Mini H Quad, but he switched to a Lumenier QAV250 a while ago.
And no. If the footage is from Alex, the camera always points to the front. So he has to fly sideways besides the planes or backwards if he is in front of them. Sometimes he even loops over the planes =).
The amazing footage is probably a result of two things: Alex's immensive training and flying capabilities. Second: A lot of footage, so you can use the good one ;-). Usually they also shoot extra air to air footage so there's no quad buzzing around for the ground to air shots and while they are talking.
Just curios is it possible to laminate it or just the wings for strength?
what is the best quadcopter for a intermediate pilot I have the Hudson x4L but I want to upgrade what would be a good intermediate that would be larger.
I'm allways going to refer to this plane as a Bixler. Those stickers on the Bixler allways come off so I'll just tell to myself that the "l e r" of "bixler" just fell off. Thank you guys for the review. I was waiting for this.
Thinking of getting one of these to do my BMFA A-Cert. I am already an experienced flier but never got around to doing my tests. Need to cram a bit more weight in to make it up to 1kg AUW. Then after my tests I'll cram a spare APM in it and have some fun. Any thoughts? (Particularly at 1kg?)
Hey. I've been flying about a month and I have a Beta 1400. It is a 4 channel glider with a pusher motor. Do you think it good to start with such an airplane?
Can you do a build project on an A-10?
What is the configuration you have here? battery prop etc
I'm looking to buy my first plane, although I've flown micro helis before (MCX, MCX2, MSR, and NanoQX). I can't decide if I want to get the Parkzone Radian RTF or the Radian Pro BNF with a DX6i. Any suggestions are great.
How awesome to make a video about comparison between all three models
This is a great idea! Do more community reviews!
Bixler 1, 2 or 3. Which one is the best flying plane?
Flite Test is Great!!! Would love if you came to Chicago area or soon KCK
Nice episode guys. Great to see both Josh Scott and Josh Bixler together again.
AHAHAHHAAH best intro ever. You're the best guys, the best. Please never change
where did you bought that / i hope i can get it too
Nice to see you sharing with the people
Just ordered mine, Merry Christmas to MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Thanks for the honest review. I got the 9g servos for flappage. Too excited.
kinda random but i saw your review on the kinetic 800. i am thinking of getting hobbykings new super kinetic. could you do a review on that?
what's the best lipo size to fit in Bixler 3?
Hey flight test. I just bought a bid 3 as a arf. I was wondering what battery I need to get. And a charger??????
What should I get Bixler 3 or Bixler2 ???
Agree with others. HK EXF Racer review please and thank you.
What were the rate and expo settings, I just got my Bix 3!
When is the Durafly Skymule comming?
Can the Bixler 3 slope soar? If yes, how long?
I just bought this, and i am waiting for it to arrive. Is there any thing you think i should be worried about? like something i need to do before my first flite.
And also; i saw you guys took off from grass. how does it handle that? (Like could i take off from grass if i am a begginner pilot?
Keep up the amazing show!
secure the flaps, from the looks of it.
Has anyone noticed of bad the decals are on the bix 3. i have had one for a month and most of its decals are gone. please respond if you have a bix 3. I would like to know if it is just a defect or all of them have this problem.
You are right Jon
I really like the new community episodes!
Hi, what size prop? Thanks
I got a bix 3 rtf and the aileron servos werre reversed. i went and bought a reverser and now the motor is set to the switch on the left? it is plugged in channel three of the receiver, like it was when shipped. does anybody have any help to offer? id really like to take out this plane and fly it but id much rather get it fixed
hi! i'd like to know the cruise height and the cruise speed
josh because of the few problems the bix 3 has would u recommend the bixler 2
I love your vids. Unfortunately I can't get the kits as I live in England. Is their any way that I can get it from England? I would love it if their is a way
Ps. Your vids are the best in a 10 year olds perspective!
I just can't get over my flyzone switch! My plane is like 7 years old and still flies great
What are the specs of the "advanced" model you flew?
where do i buy a jacket like the one you are wearing? its so cold up here in canada i could use a warm winter flite test jacket
randys rc hobbyroom Nice idea. For now you'd probably have to get your own fleece jacked and have it embroidered since it's not available in the store.
This is a great fun way to review stuff.. Please show more :)
Keep up the good work guys!
I loved this community review, I hope to see more.
I'm looking to buy the Bex3 RTF to get into the hobby. What is your opinion on the radio that comes with it?
Oh my goodness I wish I could hang out with you guys
Nice camera work from the following plane.
could you use the flaps a air brakes
Please friends, how can i get the foam matrials shipped to me here in nigeria? Please ,i need it
do a review on the new eflight P-51 Bnf or PNP basic! it come stock with retracts and flaps!
Okay, I am looking into a trainer plane, so which would be better to have: A very easy flying plane like the Bix3, Or a plane with the SAFE system like the Delta Ray? between the two, which is the best trainer aircraft?
E flite apprentice, any bixler, Axn clouds fly, hobby King mini super cub, there's loads of suitable trainers out there.
Good to see an honest review!
What kind of transmitter would you recommend something like this for a beginner and what is really cheap but good
well the one in the trf is ... oky, if you are on a budget its an ok Tx, if you want to spend a bit more, get a Flysky th9x (the Turnigy 9x is a rebranded version) its a great 9 ch Tx, and its quite modable and will grow with you if you wish (and dont fear a little modding and soldering)
If i were you I would go for the Spektrum Dx5e(around£70), if u want it to last u a little longer go woth the 6 channel Spektrum Dx6i(£90). I have just started in the Rc hobby and I bought myself a Spektrum Dx6i(decision well made!)
Recommend a Turnigy 9X to start with. Fantastic bang for the buck, is a full computer radio that will run multiple models and last 1-2 years of flight for around 50 something dollars plus freight. If you are still enjoying yourself at that point, look around at other brands / radios other people you know are using and compare cost vs benefit now that you (hopefully) know what you want to do with it.
DX6i is also a good starting point, although a little more expensive. I'd recommend that if all your friends fly Spektrum so you've got plenty of help. DX5e is a bit basic, will get you in the air fine but can only really do one model.
For my second radio, I went with a FrSky Taranis. That's a choice I made after I knew what I really wanted my radio to be able to do. I still use the Turnigy 9X for buddy boxing others and teaching my son to fly.

HOLY CRAP
THEY SOUND EXACTLY THE SAME
FliteTest Hello guys. I keep seeing good reviews about the Bixler series and I am sold on making it my first fpv plane. was wondering what motor and ESC to use if i need to carry more weight on board a Bix3. i want something a bit stronger than the one in the PNF version if thats possible. and what battery would you recommend for the combo for longest flight times?
thank you flite test for providing amazing info for us noobies :D
these little kids giving very detailed reviews is wild
Can someone tell me what they mean by anemic rudder? I'm new to the hobby so i have no idea what all the lingo means.
I was thinking of getting this as my first plane, and after this review I think I may finally order it
that kid who nearly crashed looked worried, it was nice of josh to joke about touch and go landings to relax him again
The wing looks like it may have had a lot of inspiration form a DO 228
Hmm...
I really wanna visit, when Flitetest comes about...
It's expensive to visit from Denmark, but I'll see what I can do.
Hey guys, could you make a review about the new Zephyr 3?
You guys are awesome!
Now if Hobby King could figure out how to get some stock in one of the US warehouses, I would buy one :)
Nice review.
Want to start in this hobby, dont know which plane to start off with. Was thinking about the HobbyZone Champ, or something else. Any suggestions?
delta ray.
bix3 dude
Delta ray
You guys are good at what you do....keep up the good work.
What do they mean when they say the 'beginner version'? Is that the one without flaps?
Sean Duffy I'd guess so. Less throws too probably.
gotta get one!
You guys should do more reviews on sailplanes and gliders. That would be cool
Great job guys...
did they name it after jush???
How much is it??? I'm starting the hobby and only thing I have flyed before is a little airhogs plane and I think this is a place to start but I can't get a price help me please
do you think this is a good beginner plane
Hey guys, I was wondering if you would think this would be a good plane for my limited flight area since it has good slow flight characteristics? I'm able to fly your FT22 and a 39" WS EPP 3D profile plane here with no problems other than pilot error, I really like what I see in your review video of these planes!
They ground down the motor shaft to fit a crappy adapter? I think the did that on the bixler 2 as well. Makes no sense.
How is Josh Scott going?
