1.) St. Olga- murderer and cold hearted torturer turned saint. St. Olga is venerated as the saint of widow and converts. She is the first canonized Russian saint. However, she certainly was not the type of person anyone would imagine becoming a saint.

Great video Brother Casey. 10 years ago this September a very close friend of mine who was a priest passed away at the age of 36. He was the most dedicated and reverend person I have ever known and had a great affinity to our lady. He was also a member of the Focolare movement and lived the word of the Gospel every second of every day untill he took his last breath. I pray to him every day as do hundreds, maybe even thousands across our Diocese and beyond. Last year there were calls to the Bishop to look into the possibility of promoting his cause for sainthood. This process is now well under way and as we are aware is a very lenghty process. Hopefully he will make it through the process to be declared a saint. His name is Fr. Colm O'Brien. If you ask for his support or intercession for anything, I honestly believe he will help you.

On another note, here is a little story I want to share on that topic.
I started my process for baptism last year. It was years I was thinking about converting but yeah.... lots of obstacles and things happened.
In 2021 , i was back to my homeland, having to start everything over, distressed and yeah, back into my old young adult crap and even worse, got tangled into some neopagan stuff, and in the end just stopped practicing anything because having a very very wrong relationship. We broke up, and I was even off worse than before.
And one day, I just went to my local church because I always loved chilling in churches. And when I passed the statue of Saint Therese of Lisieux, it was like she hugged me spiritually, grabbed my hand and was like "ok, now you stop your crap and you come with me".
It's like she purified me in an instant. Even the pic I took at that moment is so weird, there is a huge flash of light on the statue I never got on any pic of it afterwards. Probably a "coincidence" but I don't believe in coincidences in such matters.
And ever since, God gave me so much through her, and everytime I fall down, He gets me back through her.
She's so awesome, I love her and it makes me love God so even more. Thank you God and thank you my dear saint Therese

Henry F Clark aka Hank McNamee I remember reading somewhere that the cardinal of New York has decided not to go forward with the canonization process. I don’t know the exact reason why he had stopped the process but I recall it might have some argument with the sheen family
@@thomaswilke6312 There's been a court fight over possession of the body. It's sorrowfully ridiculous. I haven't been able to tease out all aspects of the battle, but it seems that the bishops of NYC have either failed or refused to go forward with the canonization process prior to the family's suit for possession of the body. The suit was put forward in order to spur the process in Venerable Fulton Sheen's childhood diocese, since the Archdiocese of NYC wasn't moving. One claim by the family member who sued was that New York was benefiting economically from pilgrimages to Venerable Sheen's tomb, while downplaying his legacy of faithfulness to Church teaching.

There would undoubtedly be tons of pilgrims from all over the world visiting the tomb of a saint. It’s so sad to see Father Sheen’s family suing the church over his body

Interesting is the case of St. Bruno. As the founder of the Carthusian order, his charism was that of total humility: you cannot praise yourself, or aspire for any position that attracts praise in any case whatsoever. So, when they finally found his corpse in 1513 (he died 400 or so years ago), no one could actually move forward his canonization because the Carthusians, out of humility, did not want their founder to advance to such a state of high regard. By then, many miracles were attributed to visiting his tomb, so Pope Leo X just declared him fit for local veneration, basically because "I said so." With the same reasons, Gregory XV extended his feast to the entire Roman Rite, pretty much canonizing him in effect.

This video is about the process of canonization-and he does it in the second person because it's funny. But we're not called to be canonized saints (those are a few that God uses as examples and knowing their names helps us have them as companions ;) I've truly lived this). Most of us… we're called to be ("just") saints! But that's not less. To be Christians in the fullest sense of the word. To live every second for the Glory of God and to seek profound spiritual unity with Him!! All saints are saints because of Him and all devotion to saints is only done because their example and companionship guide us to live lives for His Greater Glory. It's all for Him

If we want to become saints we have to do what saints do: go to daily Mass and monthly Confession (at least). Pray at least one Rosary a day, spend time in mental prayer and reading good spiritual books. Go to Eucharistic Adoration at least once a week. Uproot mortal and venial sins and foster theological and cardinal virtues daily. Try gaining a daily Plenary Indulgence for a soul in Purgatory. Volunteer for charities. In short, if we want to become saints we need to be spending more time with God and helping our neighbour. And if we don't think we have the time, we're lying to ourselves. How much time do we spend watching TV, surfing the internet and wasting time in other trivial pursuits. So the problem isn't that we don't know how to become saints...the problem is we don't really want to become saints. One saint was once asked how a person can become a saint...her two word answer still applies..."WILL IT."
My favorite saints are Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint John Paul II.

So though we die, we are alive with Christ. Regarding being saints, those who believe in Jesus Christ and his death and resurrection by faith (not by works as Paul says - 8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9not of works, lest anyone should boast.) are saints even before death. Their place in heaven is secure because of Jesus' death and resurrection.

Dear Brother Casey - I have just returned from a Mass to celebrate my cousins preparation for first holy communion. It was nice to be present, as I have said before, we are a mixed-marriage family, my cousins are Roman Catholic. I was a bit taken aback and very uncomfortable when the parish priest spoke about the Eucharist, and of course explaining the Catholic doctrine on "real presence", however he started to become more severe, calling the Anglican Eucharist fake, not real, empty and meaningless. He then lurched into a tirade about Anglican women priests celebrating 25 years of ordination. He said Leo XIII was right, Anglican priests are null and void, and we should never set foot into an Anglican church. I sat there gobsmacked and thought I had time travelled back to 1959 and not 2019. Please can you explain the Roman Catholic Church's position on Anglicans and other protestants in a video. I love your videos, and your preaching of Catholicism is no where near this priests position, and I am very confused. He just totally took my church - Church of England, and threw it down the drain in terms of his attitude towards our priests including the women who serve there. I was shocked, and I thought you would be the best person to explain and help. Sorry for being a bit long, but I thought this was the best place to contact you. Thank You.
Obviously, I would have to understand the context of the situation and to whom he was speaking, (as well as hearing his actual words, as sometimes things get lost in translation), but I have to say, I struggle to find a way that what you say could ever be appropriate. I'm sorry to hear that a priest would find such topics appropriate for a first communion.
@@BreakingInTheHabit At the homily, he was preaching about the church teaching on the Eucharist. He went into speech about how "the one true church has Jesus in communion, and only us have Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. I paraphrase him, but he said in similar words that the protestants such as Anglicans do not have Jesus in their so called Eucharist. As they do not believe in the real presence. They just have bread and wine. We have Jesus present, body, blood, soul and divinity. He then explained how this just showed the errors of the "protestant revolt" and how "protestants do not have a sacramental faith". He veered so close into calling us heretics. He said that all should remember that Pope Leo III has declared Anglican priests null and void, and that it is only through the Roman Catholic Church that Jesus is made truly present each day at Mass, which these young ones would be receiving in a few weeks time. Let me just say, I was stunned! Hope this provides a bit of context.

@@gh4kr Yes, but the way he explained it was very insulting to Anglicans. I know the Catholic Church teaching, I was brought up in a mixed marriage, however my father ensured I was brought up as an Anglican and not a Roman Catholic. The priest dismissed our Eucharist and our clergy in a way I never really seen before. I am friends with many Catholic priests. Many are great men, and have been a great source and role model to me, just as much as my previous vicars have been. This priest just seemed to be that little bit more cruel when talking about Anglicans.

That's at least enough time for any extreme political biases to fade away and for any "dark secrets" about their lives to come about. In other words, they've stood the test of time and are still considered by the people to be venerable.
I think they want to send the message "Everyone can be a saint and it's possible nowadays", but I hate when they rush up.
Becoming a saint for some people is relatively easy. They say a few prayers, do a few devotions, and within a year they are very saintly and very close to God. Others struggle for years without spiritual progress. What's the difference? Two main differences: (1) A cradle Catholic will usually find spiritual progress and sanctity far faster than a convert. The cradle Catholic has the advantage of good Catholic parents and a good Catholic education, even if it is just in CCD. The cradle Catholic also has ancestors in Heaven praying for him that the convert lacks. (2) People with good parents will far outshine people with bad parents in the quest for sanctity. God loves to punish people for their parents' sins and scripture specifically says that He does. Were your parents bad? Tough luck, baby, you'll beat your head against the wall for years with no spiritual progress, and you will burn many a year in Purgatory as you watch the children of good parents sail right in to Heaven with little or no effort.

The formula from the administrators is that - a set path with included paperwork. From the bottom up it is simpler -- given honor and glory to God by doing His will: minute by minute, day by day, year by year. My understanding of the Saints is that they followed the Lord where every He asked: they surrendered to His will. Did they struggle? Yes mightily. They kept it simple and refocused all the time. They were passionate pilgrims of the Absolute. They were very Christ centered men and women of flesh and blood. Saints Teresa of Avlia and Teresa of Calcutta ... Paul of Tarsus, Augustine of Hippo, Francis, Thomas Aquinas, John Paul 2 pray for us.
My question is how a current Saint becomes a Patron Saint? What is the process? Thank you!
Let us not forget for a moment that there are multitudes of people in heaven who are saints for whom their lifetime on this earth never seemed extraordinary or even officially recognized as such by the church. It is ultimately God who upon our judgement after our death determines our sainthood. Whereas, I acknowledge and know that God has recognized those in heaven as saints who were designated as such by the church on earth, I also know there are souls more numerous than we can even begin to count who are also saints in heaven who were obscurely known while they were on earth. And the least of these saints in heaven are as great as those who on earth were designated as the greatest of saints. There is hope for all of us, even if our virtue remains unknown on earth. And remember that God judges our hearts and he is just in his judgement. And what ultimately makes a saint is NOT the virtue of our lives on earth; what makes us a saint is the intensity of our love for God. Virtue follows from this love.

What if a person lived a virtuous life but was a quiet person, meaning they didn't do extraordinary things but they inspired and help the people around them and lived a faithful life. Does someone need to be recognized by the church to really become a saint or can God also recognize them as a saint in heaven?

One way to tell that someone could be a saint is by seeing how they handle relationships.

Yes. And as I said immediately after that, there are always exceptions, as in the case of Mother Theresa and John Paul II.

Brother Casey, I never understood the intercession of the saints. Why ask saints to intercede on our behalf when we can go straight to God ourselves? Can you shed some light/insight to help me understand?
Why not do both? Because, really, don't we do that with our friends? When we have a crisis, we do not go at it alone, but tell our friends and family so that they can be with us. We ask them to pray with us and for us to God. The saints are just our extended family walking with us towards God.

St. Maximilian Kolbe gives the formula for sainthood: W + w = S. We're studying this in a Marian consecration retreat. This means that our will has to match the Lord's 100%. W is God's will, w is our will and S = sainthood.

One of the most important things you left out of the equation about how the Church recognizes saints is -- financial support. Without money, hundreds of thousands of dollars at least, there will be no "cause for canonization." And obviously, the ideology of the financial donors is key to who eventually get declared saints and who don't. In a word, canonization is a political process championed by the wealthy.
I remain chagrined by the fact that St. Pope John Paul II declared Sister Rose Philippine Duchesne, RSCJ a saint in 1988, notwithstanding the fact that she and her religious RSCJ sisters in the southern U.S., between the years 1818 and 1865, bought, owned and sold about 150 slaves. Imagine -- canonizing a slaveowner in 1988! Only money could do that. The RSCJs' slave activity would not have been done without the permission of their superior of the order, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, RSCJ, who was declared a saint in 1925. Let's admit it -- the Church declared at least two slaveowners saints in the 20th century. How? The RSCJs have the finances to make it happen.
I'm Catholic and a fan of the channel. I have a few questions raised whilst watching this video. I'd really love to know the answers to these.
1. Is there any place in the Bible that encourages us to pray to other human beings and not only God ? (3:44)
2. Do these Saints perform the miracles or is it God who performs them? (4:02)
3. Thirdly, are we humans able to say who gets to go to heaven or is that up to God and his grace? (or both!) (4:00)

1. We never pray to other people, we ask other people to pray for us, this is what we do with the saints.
2. Not too sure on this one, but I do know that the apostles did miracles in the name of Jesus.
3. Nobody knows who is truly in heaven or hell. Only God.

2. God does, saints have no power, but since they are in heaven (closer to God than we are), they can help us to get our prayers answered

Which book(s) do you think are good for him to read or an apologetic book for me to read? I live in a mixed society of Chritians, muslims, agnostics and few atheists. Can you make a video on books?

What if the miracle happened while the person is still alive? Like, they were praying for the sick and the healing happens right there. And the same person dies as a martyr. Could this change the process? I'm not catholic bdw, but I like to learn with you guys. God bless!
Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.

Scripturally I am already a Saint. I am a believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I have also asked God for the forgiveness of my sins. As a believer I am considered a Saint, a child of God.
It is only the Catholic Church who picks good people and propose them for Sainthood and go through the steps necessary for Catholic Sainthood.
Another split in what the Catholic Church thinks, mandates, that is in disagreement with the Word of GOD.
In Scripture the idea of the word “saints” is a group of people set apart for the Lord and His kingdom.
There are three references referring to the godly character of saints: "that you receive her (Phoebe, minister of the Church in Cenchreae) in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints …" (Romans 16:2). "For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12). "But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints" (Ephesians 5:3).
The word “saint” comes from the Greek word hagios, which means “consecrated to God, holy, sacred, pious." It is almost always used in the plural, “saints.” "…Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem" (Acts 9:13). "Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda" (Acts 9:32). "And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons …“ (Acts 26:10). There is only one instance of the singular use, and that is "Greet every saint in Christ Jesus…" (Philippians 4:21). In Scripture there are 67 uses of the plural “saints” compared to only one use of the singular word “saint.” Even in that one instance, a plurality of saints is in view: “…every saint…” (Philippians 4:21).
Therefore, scripturally speaking, the “saints” are the body of Christ, Christians, the church. All Christians are considered saints. All Christians are saints-and at the same time are called to be saints. First Corinthians 1:2 states it clearly: “To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy…” The words “sanctified” and “holy” come from the same Greek root as the word that is commonly translated “saints.” Christians are saints by virtue of their connection with Jesus Christ. Christians are called to be saints, to increasingly allow their daily life to more closely match their position in Christ. This is the biblical description and calling of the saints.
How does the Roman Catholic understanding of “saints” compare with the biblical teaching? Not very well. In Roman Catholic theology, the saints are in heaven. In the Bible, the saints are on earth. In Roman Catholic teaching, a person does not become a saint unless he/she is “beatified” or “canonized” by the Pope.
In the Bible, everyone who has received Jesus Christ by faith is a saint. In Roman Catholic practice, the saints are revered, prayed to, and in some instances, worshiped. In the Bible, saints are called to revere, worship, and pray to God alone.

Paul clearly wrote about being dead as in dying with Christ, i.e dying to your passions and desires(Rom 6:8), and please read Colossians 3. When Paul speaks about dying, it's almost aways relating to the crucifixion of your old man and not simply literal dying.
The letters Paul appear to call everyone who is a believer a "saint", is this a different saintship? Or is the list of canonized saints just a list of saints that have been certified and not a complete list?

The term saint just means someone in Heaven. We can't be completely sure who is in Heaven, but we have faith that there are certain signs that can point us towards believing that someone is with God. The canonization process is about following those signs to make our best estimation as to who is in Heaven, and would make righteous examples for us to follow in this life. If you personally though have faith that someone you love is in Heaven though, then that is a good thing. We won't know for sure though until we die, or the Second Coming happens

The word "anti" in antichrist does not mean someone who is going to be openly anti (against) Christ. That word "anti" in the original Bible language can actually mean "IN PLACE OF". So could the bible antichrist be someone who has actually put himself "in place of" Christ? Well, we have further Bible evidence to support this. In 1 John 2:18-19 it says that there were "many antichrists", who "WENT OUT FROM THE CHURCH". In other words, John is pointing to the fact that those "antichrists" were WITHIN THE CHURCH!! Not only that, but Paul in 2 Thess. 2:3-4 calls the man of sin the "son of perdition". Now there is only one other place in the Bible where the name "son of perdition" is used, and that is in John 17:12 talking about JUDAS! And what was Judas? A professing follower of Christ Jesus. Someone who deceived from WITHIN the "church".

One becomes a saint by being good and not being bad.
The apostles referred to every believer as a Saint. Thankfully they did not have the benefit of the later wisdom and opinions of the hierarchy of the established church.
I became a saint the moment I accepted Christ as my Savior from sin. All believers are saints.
