Go back enough in your family tree and you will find some very close branches as well lol
Julian Lewis there was only 200 founders so it's the founder effect. it is needed 160 different people to prevent inbreeding however amish breaker into small groups to live in smaller communities where inbreeding become inevitable. Now they are intermarrying among community's to prevent inbreeding
@Mandy Currie yes. Smaller gene pool means poor genes
It’s almost inevitable considering no one from the outside can live with them.
goodfella21f why do you have to call them freaks? They lead far happier lives than most modern Americans.
1:40 200 years of *inbreeding*
Wolfbane8 really odd, other countries inbreeding resulted in kids being healthy, to some degree, but it’s a problem in Amish culture. Very interesting.

I know when I had wandered off after getting into a huge argument with my mother about one of her boyfriends who didn't really treat me very nice, I had saw some one working on a farm a few miles away (okay, granted, the farm was eight or so miles away, and no idea where I even was). The farm turned out to have belonged to an Amish family who were really nice to me, and had helped me get back to where I was staying at the time

200 years of inbreeding
@@quasarstar-w1v So? Their communities are not collapsing. If anything, they are among the default inheritors of North America because of their comparatively high fertility and retention rates. That their retention rate is high is quite remarkable given their Anabaptist tradition, which, as the video explains, allows them to explore alternatives before committing to the Amish way of life.
Pennsylvania is top 5 best states in the USA!
I like the farming in Amish...
200 years of inbreeding
@@quasarstar-w1v Yeah. They ought to intermarry outsiders, especially folks from Philly.
As of 2020 there are over 80,000 Amish living in Pennsylvania alone. There is similar growth in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. The narrator questions if the Amish can survive in the new modern world, but according to all statistics, the Amish are not only surviving but thriving.
There are 373,000 Amish in 32 states. It expands annually at a rate on 10%. They will be around for quite a while.
They are awesome people. Originally invited to Pennsylvania by Will Penn. Have visited the Amish area.
I love amish people. God keep on blessing them!!!🌽🌽🍇🍇
i do not think they enjoyed getting filmed like that... the one guy holding his waist was like " here we go again "

Why the wifi goes down for 5 mins
My familys ancestors are from here. I'd love to go find some relatives that did stay.
Mine also from there.
I have watched a lot on the Amish people. We have not the credibility to call them. Only the audacity. The ethics are right. Our laziness and desires shall condemn us. I would like very much to spend some time with them. I'm from a small English coastal town called Tynemouth. The peace of our lord be always with you all.
Yes as a PA resident I can tell you what you see in this video with the cars passing by and the Amish horse and buggy off the side of the road is exactly how it is when you drive through Lancaster. The town itself has more shopping and restaurants than my little town in SW PA. I admire their morals, dedication and way of life. Def not for me but I appreciate their contributions which are all of the best quality and hope they can stay put as long as they desire
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ GOD BLESS YOU ALL

My understanding there are currently over 350,000 Amish in 31 to 40 states in the USA and their population doubles every 15 years due to large families.

the date today is 4 3 2020, virus gov times, maybe all along better to be all of us out of te systems along ago..I'm retired now in pa, fished & hunted as a kid growing up in NJ farm land area. Maybe direction for me and hope others go and live a free'er life forward as the Amish.
The Amish overwhelmingly farm, but they do not live like their forebears. They have phones, use solar power, even motorized machinery, even though when mobile, pulled by horses, go shopping in 'English' stores etc. On many farms one can even see skid steers, at least here in NW Missouri.
I went to Amish country love it
Love from Germany fellow Amish folks
I need to search what AMISH people are like, after i read Jodie Picoult’s The Plain Truth. Love em.
I assume that left out the beatings their horses get for being exhausted, or the puppies they drown if they can't make a profit from their puppy mills.
So very quaint.

I respect how it’s their religion, but it’s weird how some people (in this comment section) want to live like them just because their use of technology. Technology is the main reason why countries are developed. Technology can give us a low CBR and a low CDR, unlike stage 2 countries with a high CBR and declining CDR. African countries are gaining more knowledge on technology, which is why the death rate is declining. We need technology in order to thrive. Once again, I respect the Amish beliefs, but if you want to live like them, you should take it to the full extent.
They need big bike lanes ???????????
Gas powered power plants on their horse drawn equipment, isn't that a motorized harvester? Why not just use tractor?
aksarbenoutdoors It’s religious fundamentalism, it’s not required to make sense.
It is harder to find true horse drawn implements these days and most require a power takeoff drive (PTO) so they use gas engines when they have to. They are plain people however and try to stay as true a possible to the old ways. I grew up among the Amish and Mennonites in Iowa and Missouri and have all the admiration in the world for their dedication to faith.
So I’ve meet many Amish ppl because of my grandpa he is a chiropractor and gives adjustments to some of the Amish(not just Amish ppl) they r really nice ppl buh one time they ask my to milk a cow- I said no ty💀
Inbreeding may be a problem, but more like huge family trees. One area to exist creates boundaries of genetic expansion. Vehicles are a problem and the people controlling them are a larger problem. Societies fascination with Amish or Mennonite is strange. Weird how people stand along the street filming. Did anyone talk with the people being Filmed? Would it make you feel awkward if going home people filmed your family, your children, where you work, petting your transportation? Just saying all of you make no sense.
Living in London you are rarely off camera. You get used to it and it's great sticking your to fingers up to the Bill.
If I don't listen to the voiceover, I would think this video is about all the horses still being enslaved....

I live in Pennsylvania and it’s garbage.
Pennsylvania (epecially Lancaster County) where treason, perjury and the deletion of video footage is legal in the court of law.
1:40 inbreeding...
Living in a tranquil environment is one thing, following backward traditions is another thing entirely. These Amish way of life is nothing short of unspeakable.
We have to build Amish's communal life without being an Amish itself, with the most modern technology and means of production but in Capitalism we can't, we need a new system.
In breeding 😕. Omg
Table-Country pinxing THRYM Firearms 27 How do you know? It’s not like it’s ever documented
And they are also VERY abusive to their animals!
They accept machinery but not a tractor. Shame on them for animal cruelty. My father had to plough with horse in Scotland around ww2 and said it was abject cruelty to horses. Very ignorant backward people.
Some Amish do use tractors.
They live their lives as if it were the 1700s. Good luck convincing them to change. In fact, they probably will not change. Given their comparatively high fertility and retention rates (despite their Anabaptist tradition), they are among the default inheritors of North America, alongside Evangelical Christians, Catholics, and Mormons. Numbers matter.
1:40 *The Habsburgs approve*
I made the mistake of not previewing this before showing it to my son, and at about 1.5 min in, this video mentions inbreeding. Thanks, Smithsonian, for making me explain inbreeding to my child and now his take away about the Amish people - they are inbreeding. ! Maybe include that in the description for people who may not want to explain that part to their kids yet.
North Star if you're so dumb you can't explain it in a way that a child can understand maybe you shouldn't have kids in the first place, you dolt.
