I kept my two huge riding mules (Bart and Rambo) in poly tape fencing with a solar charger. It worked wonderfully, and after they each got a little zap to the nose, I actually hardly ever even turned it on again. Shhhh, don't tell them. :) P.S. Mules do not forget anything!

With electric wire fencing even,if you horses, donkeys, mules, cattle, sheep are not use to it, it wont take long for them to lesrn it. And putting it on the outside of the lost is ok. However, when you do woven wire whether it is 2 x 4 or livestock fencing you will want to attach it to your wood posts on the inside of the posts. When livestock are grazing close to the board fence, reaching over it to eat grass outside pen or just knocking around in general it is easy for them to push the boards loose. If attached to the inside of the posts the boards are less likely to pop loose.. You have a nice large pen for your mule!. You will want to cut your line from the spool when you start up you chargee or the whole spool will be charged as well.

I want to add that tape tends to catch more snow than ropes. The fence will then sag down. But tape is cheaper and lighter at the other hand.

Anytime I ran electric fence I used strips of plastic bread bags to tie on the wire so the wind would blow it and my horses would see it.
I also walked the horses around the perimeter so they knew the fence was there.
    Great job guys! Congratulations 🎈🎉
One thing I would do is move the bird house from above the charger, birds will leave their droppings on the solar panel.

Great job on the electric fence. I like to give you one suggestion , I did fencing like that and what I did for my horses get an old sheet tear it in strips. What you do is you tie it off on your yellow rope that you had put around the whole area. Like little ribbons hanging down. It's easier for your mule to see it and four people. It's like tiny little Links of ribbon all the way around easy to see and much safer for your mule.

The gas powered driver will work great when it's hot and the ground is dry and hard, if you need to pound posts. It's worth buying in my opinion. You all are doin great! Keep up the hard work, it pays off.

You did a very good job getting the fence set up. I went with the poly tape as well because of the visibility factor and it is easier to deal with than wire. However, when I put my fence up for my goats I will be going with the poly rope style. My reasons is because it is cheaper and a little easier to put up, yet still offers easy visibility. Another reason is because I have had a hard time finding the correct insulators for the tape in my area.
Yes, those plastic insulators for t posts are a BEAR to put on when it's cold! And they will break if you don't do it just right. Make sure you keep extra on hand. At least the ones you got were close to the post. The first insulators I used were extended about 5" away from the posts. They were easily snapped.
Watching you clear your fence line, I am soooo grateful that I didn't have all that snow to clear mine! 😜

I needed an electric fence for a dog who liked to eat through the wooden fence. My brother-in-law put it up for me since that is what they used around their house for their dogs and it worked great. The dog was given to me by them so he was very well aware of the electric fence and stayed away from it. I eventually got to where I rarely turned it on. This should work very well for your need. It was fun watching you work together to get it done.
