Best finisher I've ever seen in the 200m and 400m. I just remember before he ran the 200m Final, I was jumping outta my chair in my room by myself yelling at the tv like I was in the stadium as a teenager😃 That was a HUGE moment in time when smashed his own 200m record. Great memories.
Just checking the stats online -he broke the 200m record alright, but his 400m time of 43.49s, while a new Olympic record, was 0.2s outside of Butch Reynold's mark of 43.29s, set in Zurich in 1988. Michael Johnsons world record would come 3 years later, in 1999, at the World Champs in Seville, Spain. He struggled with injury that year and was unable to compete in the U.S.trials, but gained automatic entry as the defending champ thanks to an IAAF policy set two years earlier. His world record time of 43.18s set that year still stands today. The guy is a legend!
