Great comment. I was a little saddened when Michael's record eventually fell to Usain Bolt. Legendary performances from both. Michael's still stands out for me.
Michael Johnson was such a superstar. Unorthodox running style, great speed and outstanding work ethic. Such a pleasure to watch. Roger Black ages well.
He was absolutely awesome as a competitor....even more amazing for his life after competition...doing what he's doing for others....my homie from big D....we love you dude!!!🥰
When I was a kid I loved and still love running track. Track is my favorite sport such a free feeling, running toward a goal to be the best, fit version of one's self. Thank you Michael Johnson for the inspiration seeing someone who looks like me run track.
2024....Still watching him run in videos. There is something about his style of running that makes me so emotional, the only runner that does that to me. What a wonderful athlete.
Literally only 2 people have ever ran faster than him even to this day (200m). Johnson is an extraordinary athlete, and he truly went beyond what people ever thought was possible.
Wow! Love this legend. He is a fantastic human being. I keep playing that 200m world record breaking race, over and over again. I also play the 400m race over and over. Love his energy and what he is doing now
Michael Johnson was my example, hero and great sprinter! I ran straight up just like, Michael Johnson, when I attended High School. . I was able to run the 100, 200, 400, 4×100 (2nd & anchor legs) sprint relay and 4×400 relay. So, I thank God for Michael Johnson and his style of sprinting and being a positive example for me and other sprinters. 👍😎 Rj
How come world soccer players fall to the ground after they are barely touched meanwhile the 49ers are getting touched every play and by touched I mean slammed to the gills and do the opposite like your hit didn't hurt me...can a professional soccer player please explain that to me? Thank you. And btw if all the Amrcn football football players had dedicated their lives to playing soccer, Brasil, Spain, or Germany wouldn't have the #1 position. It would for sure be the football football players. Not only that the Americans would literally be twice their size but all this is just a fantasy that will never happen. Peace love and respect to all
I was in Atlanta when Michael Johnson set the World Record in the 200. Remember the sparkle of the golden shoes, Turned to the guy sitting in front of me and he said “He caught a flyer”. We looked at the replay and he said , “I was wrong”. MJ got out of the gate soooooo fast. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Atlanta. The excitement, driving to Atlanta, finding that the city of Atlanta had provided parking and buses to take us in. The only thing i could complain about was the high price of the food. $15.00 for a Big MAC.
Sandra norman $15.00? Was McDonald’s having a laugh?? Wonder if they’d get away with that kind of price gouging for a major sporting event today. Natural disasters are one thing, that’s an absolute racket though!
I love Michael Johnson. Brilliant athlete, extremely well spoken and as a British citizen, I love watching and listening to him on our screens. I also enjoy the camaraderie between himself and the BBC sports presenters and commentators. Their chats come over as very natural - as though they are friends outside broadcasting - Gabby, Denise, Colin etc - When I listen to Michael - I often pray and hope that both current and young British athletes (coming up) - are listening. He is incredibly knowledgeable and that voice.....hm
Legend is used to often in sports....however this guy is a proper legend never forget his 200 metres world record.... never thought anyone would get near it!!!
Yeah Usain Bolt beat it by 2 hundredths of a second ,the width of a hand, and later by 0.13 seconds. People forget in his era Johnson didn’t just win he obliterated peers and records, smashing Menea record by near half a second and same in 400 and always ten meters ahead of the field in all his races. He literally transformed the 400 into a sprint like Roger Black said. Seriously a legend as Jesse Owens or anyone. We’re it not for Barcelona food poisoning, he would have had another pair of Olympic golds.
I look forward to Worlds and Olympics track and field because MJ works for the BBC then and is the BEST thing on TV. Eloquent, intelligent, reasonable and knowledgeable. Same with Navratilova when Wimbledon rolls around.
He is and will be one of the very great track and field athletes we’ll ever see ! Onto the next generation!! Wayde van Nikerk setting the new benchmark !
I ran the 200-400m in high school and when I went to the Army. I watched the Olympics that summer of 96 before my Junior year and I taped every race he was in and watched it over and over again until track season. This dude was a machine!!
I remember watching this. Track and field is my long time fave sports. I wanted to be a sprinter. Unfortunately it didn't happen😞He did freakin awesome❤️❤️❤️Atlanta Olympic 1996 is my fave ever Olympic game.
@jhing bangaman…. You make me so excited and HOTT thinking about the Atlanta games! They were awesome.. Atlanta misled the Olympic committee regarding there heat and humidity… (you would think they could check these things themselves)… ended up inserting it in the backend when Ali (Baba) lit the torch in Olympic stadium.. I wish I could get my hands on yours though but it’s impossible! It was so tight and wet that the pressure to take it down couldn’t be denied any longer. The stadium came down nice and hard but it always starts out slow and steady with explosive results at the end.. unfortunately they had to make room for a third, but ironically it was the lady who wanted something new.. not in its place but to JOIIN!! It was fairly quick though because everyone came so fast to see the implosion. It’s gone now but memories are forever!! So back to you Bangaman!! I hope the Olympics come to my home country before my time is up!! Until then, I will fantasize about you in Atlanta heat.
Don't be sorry, girl, you can still try long distance running and feel the joy of running. I now love running, and great athletes like Johnson and Kipchoge have made me fall in love with running. Come on, girl
Майкл огонь! Помню, как 22 года назад 14 летним мальчишкой я смотрел олимпиаду в Атланте на стареньком ламповом телевизоре и болел за джонсона, фредрикса и болдона. Золотое время было!
It would be just devastating to train, in some cases your entire life, for that one moment and have it fall away because of food poisoning. He may be onto something with the Royal taster thing lol.
USSAIN BOLT TALK TO MICHAEL JOHNSON AND STATED I WANNA BE LIKE YOU. BECAUSE I WANNA BE WORTHY TO WEAR THE GOLDEN TRACK SHIES. AND JAMAICAN USSAIN BOLT DID IT.. Myfavorite athlete was willson kipketer.he was king of 800metre race. resident was both in Kenya and Denmark. He finished his engineering in Copenhagen at Denmark and married with a Danish woman . Micheal Jonson was very fat in his early years. He always worn neck tie, sunglasses and always had a briefcase in his hand. His appearance money was 1lakh dollar. His coach was Joel ejer. He said Micheal never want to be second and also keep practicing in deep rain. He born in 13September 1967at texus dalas. His father was Paul Jonson. He made his double in sole Olympic. All time favourite. Immortal.
Always loved running the 100m on sports day at School. Always came second, beaten by a lad who went onto play professional football. I thought he would go far in Athletics but he was able to choose Football and made a decent career from it. I know how Roger Black must have felt, up to about 60m I would be ahead but he would then start to power past me like Bolt did to the field.
4:04 “He made us all realize this is a sprint.” That trickled all the way down to high school track and field and maybe even to junior high. It never occurred to me it was anything but a sprinting distance. Love that for Michael!
The man who made me fall in love with the Olympic Games as an eight year old in 1996. Thanks Michael.
With track and field you mean
Same here born 88. Johnson is a legend
Legend really .A rare piece 👌👍

MIchal Johnson is still a legend, I will remember for all my life his spectacular run. Big hug from Italy
He's not only a great athlete he's a great person too
I love how well produced these are. All the footage, all the interviews and seeing their rivals speak well of others - excellent film making!!!
I have seen this for the past two weeks. So many competitors cheering on their competition.
Simply beautiful.

Still a great role model for all people. He trained the right way, HARD!!! He ran clean, and prepared to win!!!

Class-act gentleman. Thanks for all the hard work and great example!

We’re very blessed to still have this Legend with us.
His 400m win in Sydney was probably the most popular gold medal by a non Aussie at those games. We love him!
Now and for ever more, whenever we think of Australia + Olympics, we will only think of Raygun.
He was absolutely awesome as a competitor....even more amazing for his life after competition...doing what he's doing for others....my homie from big D....we love you dude!!!🥰

I feel that we Brits are so lucky that he does so much sport's commentary for the BBC. It wouldn't be the same without him
Totally agree he's a fabulous commentator
Sometimes I forget his not British. Like I’ld listen to him talk and wonder how he got the accent
Why are so many greats named Michael or mike or anything similar to that?
Couldn't agree more

Unlike all other Americans, he prefers calling it "football" than soccer. That's a true sportsmanship 😍
Some of us call it football I personally call it association football when talking with other Americans to differentiate between ⚽️ and 🏈
