Yeah I had to get used to the settings on here lol. I really don't bash any brands, but I will point out things about drivers that one should be aware of, if I've had them in hand, or have been pulled apart for analyzing, to make improvements before rebuilding. The SDR isn't horrible, but isn't 2.5" coils.. They're like the 8" zvx and use 2.3" coils as well. The DDX is a good driver, and I like them. I don't care for the EVL line, they're very inefficient and a smaller, and not so strong motor. The ZVX line is fairly cookie cutter, but will get loud and is more spl oriented. The VXF line is a really good driver. Reconed a few awhile back that was grossly over powered for about 2 years. They're built well, and sound pretty good. Kevin hasn't updated his lineup in years for his subwoofers, and the best sub they had was the VVX v.1, which was designed by Jacob Fuller at Sundown. The m Kevin and the owner of China Future Sound (Skar build house) should have kept Audio Legion going, because it' was a higher tier brand, and the sister conpany. I don't dislike Skar, but he should reinvest some of his money, into newer and improved subwoofers for sure. A thing that will cause a company to fall, is having stale products.
@@matasblot3606 I was mainly referring to the parts bin nature of their construction. Entry level subs like these typically don't have accurate TS parameters because they use different parts if they run out of what they normally use. I'd imagine all sizes of the ZVX line are like that. It's made to a price point so they sell a lot. For example, if they run out of the particular spider or voice coil they started with I doubt they will stop production until they receive exact replacement parts. It's more likely they will switch to a part very similar and keep production going. This, in and of itself, is not necessarily a bad thing. When you make a change you need to give it a different revision number and update the specs for it. I think Skar does that when they make a big change. I don't think they do it when they make a small change due to a replacement component. That can be a real problem if you're expecting one thing and receive another. To be fair, I don't think most people buying the entry level subs care about small changes or if the TS parameters are different. They mainly just care whether or not it bumps. Lol
Correction - I just learned that the ZVX is not Skars entry level. For $150 I assumed it was, but their entry level 8" is like $40 and the ZVX is actually their top of the line subs. Wow, my bad. I'm not very familiar with this brand.
@@matasblot3606 yes, they're different in coil size, frame design, cone, spider, motor and so forth... but they are also geared towards spl more than anything, just like the 8" as the zvx drivers of all sizes are inefficient in the similar ways as the 8".
I did, and a local guy bought it. I do remember the fs was 34hz, and it worked in both sealed and ported after the recone. I used a much more compliant suspension overall. I have another I'll do an exact recone on it and do a video.
Yes. The spider setup in this driver is unnecessary and was done so to curb the excursion. Thank you for your comment, and hope the recones turn out great.
I have two of these I am wanting to rebuild but haven't found an "in stock" voice coil that will fit. Anyone have a link to the correct size voice coil to buy for my rebuild? Thanks in advance!
@@crainjohn86 I have them from quite a few years ago, from doing Kicker recones. Jorge has some I know. Over at Lord of Bass. If this link gets removed, send me an email. My email is on my profile
@@Caydendidit Any driver will do exactly what you tell it to do, up to the point of destroying itself. Just because it will do something, doesn't mean it was meant too. I've never seen one play well below 30hz, with any type of authority... period.
Great info Chuck…
Thank you very much.
Great info.
Thank you
I'm glad you turned on comments. Does your analysis of the zvx 8" also apply to the larger sizes?

I think the other sizes are differe t tho, like they have different specs in general so i would think its different but idk

in your opinion would a single sundown zv 12 be good for spl and sq?
Which revision of the ZV series? Thanks
The spiders are crap on these they really limit the excursion ive got 2 of these one needs reconed so im just going to recone both

@Chuck_Sanders dual 2ohm would be nice. How many do you have and where did you get them from? Just curious?

I’ve seen them play down to 16hz
