In terms of engine & transmission reliability, and being well-ahead of the curve in terms of safety & technological advancements, then sure. In terms of quite literally everything else... uhhh... (then again, I truly can't tell if your comment is sarcasm or not 😅)
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 I'd say it's widely argued that build quality of a lot of interior and exterior trim materials on Benzes of this vintage were not necessarily 'bad' per se, just that they were a steep step down from 80s & early 90s models. Electronic reliability also did not measure up to the mechanical reliability of this era. Lastly, a lot of folks tend to argue that MBs from late 90s/early 2000s did not age well (both aesthically and physically). I disagree with them on the aesthically (the two model examples in this video still look great in my eyes almost 25 years later) but I have to agree on the physical side that the rust issues on so many MBs from this time period were just shameful and undefendable.
M137 😂😂😂 what a joke engine… no wonders it had a short life, how can a engine that it replaced (M120 ❤) have less power 😂 lucky the SL600 R230 never got this engine. M275 all day long. What a massive improvement. Love my SL600 bi-turbo.
Might hae been extremely reliable though... if it came from same series as the m112-113. The V8 also made less power than the previous gen. 3 valves instead of 4. The m137 was also a 5.8 vs the m120 6.0. A big benefit compared to the old m120 was that it was 80kg lighter though. Which is significant.
@ the M112/M113 , wonderful engines they produced them for a long time. I have the R129 final edition with the M113 engine and SL55 M113K. The M137 had to many issues. But if yours has been reliable that’s excellent. 👌👍🏼.
Mine's Chipped to 430Break. The car weighs 4,300Lbs so Ive got my magic number of "10" Power to Weight Ive had in all my cars since the Lotus Carlton gave me that figure back in the 90s. Nothing better for some guys though (and here's why some car guys love this lump) to make whatever power they do make "Normally Aspirated" Or like they say in America "All Motor!" Now, Ive always been an NA Guy, but some guys only love "forced induction", and similarly whatever engine they get, it must always be Turbo etc.
This CL is one of the most beautiful post war cars.
Wonderful times for Mercedes.

@@4MATICbenz What is everything else in that case? Didn't you list everything before that?😂

@@4MATICbenz True.

The beginning of the end for Mercedes. Thank you Chrysler 😢.

@@BobBenz55 Nice. I've never had the m137. Only the m113. And the earlier m119.

I mean less power than the previous generation yes but still a whole second faster 0-60 time
Arguably the worst v12 mercedes ever made
Exactly 👍🏼 M120 and M275 all day long.
Not if it was as reliable as the m112-113. Then it might actually have been the best one ever. In that specific regard.
