Billy Graham was both Hulk Hogan and Jesse "The Body" before either of them did anything worth mentioning. Both based large parts of their own public personas on Graham's stuff. If Graham hadn't slumped badly in 80/81, given up on the "Superstar" gimmick, shaved his head, lost most of the the steroid physique, and decided to be "weird bald karate dude" for a while at the same time when Hogan became super popular, who knows how things could have turned out. Hogan left the AWA with enormous upward career momentum, made Bob Backlund nothing but an odd hazy memory in the WWF, and became the biggest thing ever in wrestling. Graham jobbed to Backlund while confusing the audience with a different look and in-ring style, left the WWF, went to the AWA, eventually started to juice _hard_ again, and by the time he looked like the "Superstar" again, nobody really cared about him that much anymore. When he returned to the WWF he was too old and broken down. Hogan was in his early 30s going at full steam ahead, Graham was in his mid-40s with a really bad hip, bad ankles, and other health problems on top of it. If the blonde, long-haired, larger-than-life, steroid meat mountain look was what was required for "Thunderlips", it was the worst possible time in Graham's entire career to provide that. Jesse jobbed to Backlund or was still Adrian Adonis' tag team partner around the time the cast for "Rocky 3" was put together and the movie was shot.
Stallone's mother was a promoter of womens wrestling. And she is a mystic. Frank Stallone is a brother Mason. Quite an interesting family. Hogan is also a brother, BROTHER! As is Brutus Beefcake and Brother Love.
Regarding the magazines, and how Vince wouldn't allow any photo sessions for PWI with his guys, I recall being really surprised seeing studio shots of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard posing with the WWF tag team belts. I wonder if they caught some heat from Vince over that.

Without Rocky 3 wrestling wouldn't have exploded to the heights it did well at least so quickly.
What's funny is Rocky III came out in 1983. The first Mania was in 1985, two whole years later & Vince tried to capitalize on that movie. Two years is a lifetime in wrestling years, even in the 80s.

Vince wanted the Von Erich boys.. I believe they would of worked well in old WWF.. Seriously.. It's wrestlers that WWF misused like Vader but I truly I believe he would have use the Von Erich boys well especially Kerry or Kevin..
The "Thunderlips" character was created specifically for Hogan but before that, Harley Race was originally approached about the wrestler role in the film, Harley and the NWA turned the offer down as they thought it was going to be making fun of wrestling.

@@psjdangerman yeah that is some of the stupidest. He said those because Sting was the good guy when wcw was beating wwf there. And because someone there doesn't like Aldis for some reason.
Just watched the Vice special on Owen Hart. Cornette is not all slaps, insults, smart ass remarks, and brutally honest comedy. The man has a heart. I hope I didn't break any kind of Kayfabe by noticing that.
Thunderlips had more charisma and style than Terry Hulk Bollea ever had
No one gonna talk about Pauly getting in on Hogan!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I dont sweat you.
Paulie wouldn't put Hulk over lol
Hogan you gotta sell the chair shot from Uncle Pauly.
Hogan: "that doesn't work for me brother"
Lmao... “I don’t sweat you!”
I don’t know why but listening to Jimmy Cornette lifts my spirits up. Interesting what if re: Eddie Graham.
Terry funk was in the greatest movie of all time road house
“You ain’t shown me nothing yet!”
“Opinions vary!”
I haven’t watched it in yrs.. thanks for reminding me 💯💪🏽
FOH 😂😂😂😂😂
I think Mr T being on the A-Team had more to do with him being at Wrestlemania than the Rocky 3.
@Steve Creator Well it's easy to missunderstand what I wrote.
seeing the original entrance of hogan and t at wrestlemania with eye of the tiger playing sends chills down my spine , a truly memorable moment.
Kind of off subject but Tiny Lister in an interview I seen talks about having the same agent as Hulk Hogan maybe mr. T did also
Verne Gagne, Vince Sr., Jerry Jarret, Eddie Graham, Fritz Von Erich, Stu Hart and Crockett... All of those names around at the same time is just astonishing!
In those 83 Battle Royals they did have Andre and Hogan face off. In Rockford, IL, everyone was down, and Hogan and Andre were getting ready to lock up in the middle, but then the Heenan Family attacked them, eliminating Hogan. Andre eventually won when he and Ken patera both fell over the top at the same time but Andre held on and didn't go to the floor.
The Italian meatball Vs The American hot dog
Is that an Always Sunny reference?
@@dreday5880 i don't know as I have never seen that TV show
Speaking of Hogan and Mr.T, I always loved Hogan's cameo on the A-Team.
I watched every episode back in the 80's...What all was Hogans story on there? I dont remember it.
@@dwade6322 Mr.T was a big fan of Hogan in the episodes he was in and they ended up working with Hogan to take down some baddies. I have the DVD sets but haven't watched in years.
@@dwade6322 it's on UA-cam. Do a search. Atleast it was
Didn't Vince pretty much buy out Montreal (International Wrestling in Quebec) when the Rougeaus and Dino Bravo arrived. ?
Superstar Billy Graham or Jesse Ventura would have worked in Rocky 3.
ThunderLips: The ULTIMATE male.
versus the ULTIMATE meatball!
Terry Funk was in the Stallone movie Over the Top....
Stallone's mother was a promoter of womens wrestling. And she is a mystic. Frank Stallone is a brother Mason. Quite an interesting family. Hogan is also a brother, BROTHER! As is Brutus Beefcake and Brother Love.
Mr.T was a four time tough man tournament winner. He was in actual fights
Toughest bouncer
Brian asks any question.
Jim's response every time: "Well, , (audible sigh)..."
I find myself doing this now in everyday convo, in addition to "Whale what the fuuuuck"
This was my question haha. Thank you so much for making my day!
Hi guy
In retrospect to what Jim said, being from the northeast region, I didn't know who Hulk Hogan was until I saw Rocky 3
CORNETTE is a WRESTLING GOD.
Travis missed a golden opportunity to draw Jim as the ultimate male Thunderlips
Instead? He’s depicted as the ultimate meatball, ha, ha, ha…
Regarding the magazines, and how Vince wouldn't allow any photo sessions for PWI with his guys, I recall being really surprised seeing studio shots of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard posing with the WWF tag team belts. I wonder if they caught some heat from Vince over that.
Brian is right, for awhile the WWF only referred to Harley Race as "The King."
Stalone in real life is shorter than you think ... and the only other guy I could think of to play thunderlips would be Jesse Ventura
John studd
Ya hes really like 5'5/5'6. Hes the same size as my dad lol. Obviously hed prolly kick my dads ass, but my dad was a military man an can fight and shoot in real life.
"I'm gonna break him in half like this"
Why does your name sound familiar?
Corny doesn't think Rocky III was HUGE in the 80's/WWF explosion is just proof he's lost in the bubble...
THUNDERLIPS!!! The most underrated rocky film in the series
Bobby Heenan called Hogan “Thunderlips” from time to time during broadcasts. It always made me smile.
Remember to watch Rocky 4 on November the 3rd I enjoy Rocky 3 the most of the Rocky movie series family guy reminded me of Dolph Lundgren Day
Funk choreographed the street fight in Rocky 5.
Florida Wrestling also aired during the late 70s/early 80s on local WWOR-9 in the New York/Tri State area...
Corny talking about the Territories are my favorite videos on this channel
Jim's wrong here Hulk Hogan in Rocky 3 introduced millions to wrestling and Vince rolled with it. To people who didn't know wrestling or have any involvement it was their introduction to wrestling and is what put it in people's conscience. Jim downplays it saying Hulk was already big. Without Rocky 3 wrestling wouldn't have exploded to the heights it did well at least so quickly.
Jim Cornette tends to be right and wrong on all his stuff.
What's funny is Rocky III came out in 1983. The first Mania was in 1985, two whole years later & Vince tried to capitalize on that movie.
Two years is a lifetime in wrestling years, even in the 80s.
"the ultimate male (pattern baldness) vs the ultimate meatball"
Ok before I’ve heard a word. I wanna say I’m a huge Rocky fan. Rocky3 in particular. I just love it. Top three FAVE movies for Me. Hulk match is a huge part. Plz go EASY on it🤞
love all the Vince Sr. stories.
Thunderlips was hilarious! The ultimate male, versus....the ultimate meatball! 😂
The beginning of Hulkamania was when Hogan took his first hit of cocaine during the filming of the movie. It completely changed his personality and his interviews.
“ I threw him down the alley, like a dirty rag!”
Hulk would of never left the WWWF if he didn't make Rocky 3. If he never went to the AWA and become the Hulk as we knew him. It was Gagne that turned him into the Hulk that tore the shirt and Hulked up in the matches. McMahon senior fired him from WWWF for making Rocky 3.
Austin Idol could have been Thunderlips.
I could listen to Jim and Brian talk wrestling history all day. In fact sometimes i do
I never heard of Eddie Graham as I was born in 1996. I will have to look this guy up.
Mike Graham is his son
Rocky Should have pumped out a movie every year after Rocky 4. Rocky vs Rick Rude, JCVD, Rocky vs Grace Jones.
Rocky 9 showdown with the big show
Hulkster was scary in that flick.
I mainly love how the night Hogan went into the WWE HOF they got Stallone to induct him and Sly got a better payday than Hulk. 😆
The INCREDIBLE Hulk Hogan!!!! I still cringe to this day.
@@ErwalDeeas What's wrong with saying The Incredible Hulk Hogan when he was called that years before?
@@chadk890 I always heard him being called the IMMORTAL Hulk Hogan. The INCREDIBLE Hulk is a Marvel character.

Mr. T had been on a show called “Games People Play” in a bouncer competition, as I remember. I think Bryant Gumbel hosted.
Vince wanted the Von Erich boys.. I believe they would of worked well in old WWF.. Seriously.. It's wrestlers that WWF misused like Vader but I truly I believe he would have use the Von Erich boys well especially Kerry or Kevin..
Vader was his own worst enemy. Shawn wasn't the only one who didn't like him. I don't think you could push guy who was liked so little.
Vader was ruined when Hogan no sold his power bomb in 1995 in WCW.
I thought Vince SR didn't want him in the movie, so Hogan went to awa!
"It's all fake meatball !"
I love these videos where they just talk wrestling history
Me too, I'm new to wrestling & these podcasts are interesting. I'm very interested in the end of the territories.
Andre was in the AWA annually for awhile.
That scene had the greatest one liners in any of the movie series... might be the best scene as well.
Blast off meatball!!!!!

The "Thunderlips" character was created specifically for Hogan but before that, Harley Race was originally approached about the wrestler role in the film, Harley and the NWA turned the offer down as they thought it was going to be making fun of wrestling.
According to whom

I am remember seeing Hulk Hogan on ESPN Woke I mean Sports Center mentioning that he almost did not star in "Rocky III" since he thought the wrestlers in the locker room that they were pulling his leg that Stallone wanted him to be in the movie.
I grew up in the seventies on NWA wrestling with Gordon Solie commentating.
Jim says Eddie Graham was "the best finish man in wrestling". Can anyone clarify or elaborate, please? Have also heard Pat Patterson was a master of finishes while booking in WWF/E
They're both considered to be the best finish guys in wrestling. Kevin Sullivan in interviews speaks on how smart Eddie Graham was with finishes

Eddie was the best at finishes in the ring while pat would finish on pipers face

I remember when Hulk Hogan didn't do well in interviews with the AWA. It was Greg Gagne that helped Hulk Hogan.
So about 2 of the 27 minutes of the video was actually about Hogan and Rocky III.
