Anytime we heard “The King will be in action next Wednesday night at the Evansville Colosseum...” it was time to offer to do extra chores for ticket money and a trip across the river to Indiana. I know what Mr Cornette means about that strap drop. The crowd was already going nuts when he almost beat the Miz in a TLC match for the WWE Championship with CM Punk doing commentary. I was a kid again almost screaming for a lil Memphis Fireball. But I knew he wasn’t going to win when that strap never came down from his shoulder.

To be fair, Jerry Lawler came close to coming to WCW around 1991, but it was leaked by Paul Heyman and the plan was abandoned and Heyman was suspended and removed from the announce team. I believe the plan was to hold a tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on November 11, 1991 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, where Lawler would win the tournament and the title, then he would challenge Lex Luger to a unification match for both the NWA and WCW World Heavyweight Championships.

So 1977 then? Georgia Championship Wrestling was a predecessor to WCW. And Hulk Hogan (as Sterling Golden) appeared there and in Tampa for CWF as well. The real crying shame is when Crockett more or less muscled in on Georgia and cashiered Gordon Solie. The Dean Himself calling the early sadistic rise of The Four Horsemen? Mercy! Incidentally he would've also called both "Big Turns" by Ole Anderson against Dusty Rhodes in 1980 and in 1986. Putting the perfect storyline Bookends together no less.😎🐴🖐B.W.

It was not so " big stage & bright lights". WCW during thst time was tring to compete with the WWF/E. It was a true alternative from what the other entertainment based promotion owned by Vince McMahon.
The Monday Night Wars (WCW vs. WWF/E to also include ECW Crash TV) pretty much drained the well dry and contaminated everything else.

Does Bobby still leave WWF at the end of 93? Does he still go to WCW where he'd not have the same spot he got when he jumped in reality? Does he retire outright? It's interesting to think about.......

Technically Jerry Lawler appeared twice in WCW. Once on TV against Bob Roop when Memphis was graced by the mercilessly shortlived broadcasting duo of Gordon Solie and Lance Russell. And both groups started a talent exchange. And once when Jerry Lawler and Roddy Piper hinted at a Superfeud on Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS. Which became World Championship Wrestling and of course eventually WCW.😎B.W.

I could see a run against Flair in '93 and possibly a Vader feud, but he would be a better fit for WCW as a whole. Plus WCW would get the advantage of working with USWA and utilizing their top stars on TV.

Curt was a heel and had cheated to beat Bockwinkel for the title (roll of coins?). Lawler eventually cheated to beat Kerry Von Erich (roll of coins?). He definitely was not an outright heel at first.
