- CAPTAIN of the Cork hurling team Donal Og Cusack this evening officially kicked off the Foyle Pride Festival 2012 at Derry City Council buildings.
The GAA star said he was delighted to be in Derry, a city he says is synonymous with Civil Rights, and proud to be guest of honour at a reception held by the Mayor
"I get asked to a lot of events and I have to turn them down, he told Newswire. "But I was drawn to this, as Derry is renowned through history for Civil Rights. The city has come on an impressive journey and I wanted to be part of that."
What a wonderful speech to launch such an important event. Much respect to Donal Óg and the Foyle Pride crew, solidarity!
Terrific role model period. His autobiography is up there with the best sports books , a definite leader.
first time I actually heard that surprisingly as I'm from Derry, but was great speech, which met him, but great speech.

Such a GAA speech!
Excellent speech a true Ambassador for young gay or straight people
Great speech, and he seems like a good, solid character. Sexy as hell, too. The guy who shouted it out had it right.
get over it
Holy Christ the great Christy Ring must be turning in his grave to see this sort of shite from a Cork hurler. Personally I don't give a damn who or what he rides but dont be linking it to our great Pride in Cork hurling.
I am from Cork, and I am not proud of your Neanderthal comments.
