The thing is they are right, the dual player has had its day due to the increased professionalism and increased demands of the games. Its just physically impossible to play both hurling and football at the highest level.
This was the best apres match so far!!
And what about Gerard O Kelly Lynch of Sligo both a great hurler and stunning Footballer
It's not correct that football counties will always pressure inter-county players to drop hurling- in Mayo Keith Higgins and Michael Conroy also hurl for the county.
TheLastAngryMan01 mayo play at a lower level
But Mayo is not a hurling stronghold. Auld Joe around the corner with the gammy knee could hurl for Mayo
After dublins loss yesterday does this conversation on underage structure in Dublin resolute still 8 YEARS LATER 🤦🏻♂️
DES "IN FAIRNESS " CAHILL . WHAT A MUPPET.
It sounds lovely playing hurling and football you have to choose one sport only either football if your from a football county hurling if your from a hurling
You can't expect a 15,16 year old 2 choose between 2 sports he loves that's the problem with soccer their focused on fully commiting their players 2 soccer
At the top level though. GAA intercouny is as near as makes no difference a professional sport in a lot of ways. Of course you can play football and have fun at your club. But if want to be an elite footballer or hurler for your county, you have focus on one. Seems quite harsh, but the lads are spot on!!
what about teddy mccarthy, denis walsh and sen og hailpin ladddzzz
True Sean og halpin hurling excelled wen gave up football
so donal óg , you wouldn't agree that teddy mac , jack lynch or jimmy barry reached their full potential then ??
Very different eras. Teddy was the last of the great dual players. He wouldn’t be able to do it now in the far more intense environment that is inter county hurling and football
all of those players that you listed aren't modern players. I'm just using this as an example, but look at what Podge Collins would have to be playing in if he still played county in both codes-
Football: The All-Ireland Championship, The National Football league, McGrath Cup, Clare Senior Football Championship
Hurling: The All-Ireland Championship, The National Hurling Leauge, Waterford Crystal Cup, Munster Hurling League, The Boston Fenway classic (if Clare are in it, in which case he'd have to fly to America), Clare Senior hurling championship
if that isn't a lot to keep up with, I don't know what is. Plus in both codes you're going to have to put up with crushing defeats, injuries and disappointments. Your form is in constant state of danger if you play both codes.
