Thanks Jay. Thanks so much for the thoughts around tipi tents and stoves, and keeping/getting stuff dry in winter. I've got the Rincon and so tempted to get the Peax but know it's really not that efficient for back country solo hunting for all the reasons you've suggested. Also really liked the suggestion of using two bags to stay warmer in winter. Just a really practical session. Will relisten. Exped down booties (autumn, winter) and slippers are my go to luxury item, along with a real pillow.

At 35:50 could the puffy that you could recommend be the new hyperdown jacket from sitka? Sitka says its the warmest puffy they have ever made... You be the judge of that claim please. Thanks buddy.loved and i mean really loved this podcast jay.

I have mixed feelings about that jacket. I would like to review it though.

    Hi Jay,
    Another excellent video mate.
In regards to your quilt in the winter time do you have any troubles with draft?
I had some big problems in my winter hunt in Australia where I was using my -4°C quilt in -4°C temperatures. I was getting drafts which was making me so cold. Also was getting a wet footbox.
I was going to try your idea of bringing along a 10°C synthetic quilt to have over the top of my down quilt and also wear a puffy jacket to bed.
Would like to know your thoughts as I know all you use are quilts.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

I’m putting up a video tomorrow about my sleep system that will add more detail but most ratings on quilts are survival ratings not comfort ratings. I would assume you’d need puffy layers to use a -4c quilt in -4c. Also, did you have all the attachments closed correctly?

@@MindfulHunter Awesome I'll be watching that.
You wouldn't believe it mate after I sent my comment last night i setup my sleeping pad and quilt in the lounge room.
I wasn't utilising the straps around the pad. I tightened them up so the sides of the quilt tucked under the pad and I hopped in and cranked the drawstring near my head and it worked great.
Can't believe it. I will definitely be using a puffer jacket to bed would I need puffy pants as well?
      Thanks for your help

Great content as always! Thank you. When I was looking for active layer insulation, I ended on the Dynafit Free Alpha Direct instead of the Sitka Ambient. It had a better fit and price for me.

I've got 10 pairs. Best Merino boxer I've used. Have had them about a year, wear everyday as a farmer and no issues so far

No. Not a fan of merino baselayers.
