The conversation at 40:37 is the most perfect articulation of why I fell in love with hunting again this year. I enjoyed hunting with my dad as a kid, and then stopped for 20 years. But this year I got back into it again and it kicks my ass mentally, physically and emotionally every single time, and yet each time I love it a little bit more.
I’m new to hunting. I’m 38. This was my second year hunting. When I was a kid, I wanted to hunt. Mostly fished. Grew up around some wrong crowds that took me on different path. Joe Rogan introduced me to Steve rinella, cam and Dudley through his podcast. All those guys opened my eyes to hunting and getting out in the wild. With that, I found Gritty, Elk shape and they all inspire me to get out there and provide for my family in another way than I have before.
Outstanding Jay. Really good commentary on the reality of hunting, influencers, and making time to go hunting in a real world. Man, it's easy to show success on social media and not "mention" the number of days that it took to achieve it. I don't know if hunting form goes up or down, I'm sure it does. But, one thing I've learnt is volume = success. Funny that.
Cam Hanes got me back into bow hunting, it is to the point that I rarely rifle hunt. So I have nothing but my deepest appreciation for that guy, because I not only love to hunt, but I love to shoot my bow all throughout the year. I like Steve Rinella as well, although he primarily rifle hunts, that guy pushes the limits out deep in the brush. Also, the man uses everything on the animal. I can't do that, I cannot eat the eye gunk from a deer. You can say it tastes like bread dough, but you're not getting me my guy haha. I also really like Joe Rogan, not to the point where I'm a sycophant, but the guy has put in the work in many aspects of his life. He trains hard, he works hard, however, all that said. He is new into hunting, at least at the level it takes to have an opportunity for bigger game. I don't know his backstory, but I believe he is relatively new into hunting. I don't think he did it as a kid like many of us have. I believe he got into it later in life and he just has a lot to learn, but he is influential, so I believe he serves for good in the hunting community...but I could be wrong on the timeline. I just know the early days of Rogan, he didn't talk about hunting and sourcing his own food. I also like that he is against factory farming; as someone who prefers to source all of my own meat, I too am against factory farming. Glad to hear though that you both were not bashing the guy. Many people in the hunting community are gate keepers or old fudds that push people away because they do something different, or have access to trips that others could only dream of. I'll probably never get to elk hunt, but I enjoy watching someone struggle for days to locate, stalk, call, and get the opportunity of a lifetime.
I'd say I'm new to hunting. May 40 days in the last 4 years. But this has been a great conversation. And yeah it's better to be out doing the thing instead of obsessed about what you need to the thing. Start small and get experience. That's being said the nice gear is pretty nice. I look forward to affording it one day lol. Appreciate the awesome, no BS, gear reviews!
Coming from Kentucky and starting my western hunting adventures 4 years ago the #1 biggest surprise was how emotional it can be. I tell people this all the time. It’s not just a physical struggle it’s an emotional roller coaster bc you have no choice but to be present. Also gave up social except UA-cam 2 yrs ago and will never go back. Give it a shot , you’ll be surprised how good it is to get away from.
I deleted all mine years ago. The only downside is you become isolated, and you can forget about dating. If you are married it would probably be better.
I look at what You say from a completly different perspective as I live in Europe where there is none bowhunting allowed. I would see Rogan as a hunting and archery ambassador. He gets bows from expierienced guys, but uses his fanbase to promote the sport. I would say Dudley, Hanes, Ranella are expirienced hunters and he is just a member of their circle. You can see that he goes for hunting with them, it is not only ranches and private land, but he does it with the expirienced hunters. I would not compare ambassadors and practical outfitters. He does it for food and for fun. Due to lack of time he does it in most efficient way he can find sogoes with friends and still does episodes there. I think as he sais there is spewace for every one and hunting needs more people both Your was of hunting and their. Both ways work depending on the money You can spend and time You can invest in it.
The only downside is it drives up prices, makes tags harder to get, and over runs all the public land. Hunting was already becoming too expensive for the common man 30 years ago.
@@JungleG-425 It is a catch 22, because we need more hunters in order to maintain our hunting rights. But putting a price tag on everything is ruining it for the average person. Right now I am saving up 20 grand to go to Canada on a moose and caribou hunt. I don't make much money, but I am lucky as I can save nearly all of the money I make. If I had to support a family, I wouldn't have the time or the money to even hunt public land.
@@Steve-ev6vx I don't even belong in the conversation, I only make 24k a year after taxes. I can't afford to do any of this, I'm from Colorado and I hear the moose hunting here is great. Good luck on Canada mate that sounds like a blast. I completely see your point though.
@JungleG-425 Getting a tag for moose in the lower 48 is extremely hard, generally a once in a lifetime type thing. I feel ya on the pay, I am lucky to make 15 most years. I am lucky that I have a paid off house to live in and we have gotten very good at living on a shoestring budget. I try to save half of what I make, just recently started hunting and fishing again. I would look at small game and turkeys first, that isn't that expensive and can usually be done on public land. Next I would look at over the counter tags for residents and public land. I live in Florida so I have to travel for anything other than small whitetails and hogs, but I don't have to worry about grizzlies either. 😂
49 mins i love the honesty I'm so sick of these vortex hoars. Watching ryan lampers is like watching paint dry he's a slow shitty hunter that has endless time in the field that's why he's successful. They have so much advertisements and there getting pimped by these companies. It's so funny, but your right the money is in the trades. People need to listen to this.
No offense sounds like you guys are a little jealous because somebody thinks of Joe Rogan when they think of hunting I don't know but I've been hunting 35 years this year and tagged along since the age of five with my grandfather and my dad and my grandpa's Brothers and what I learned at an early age is everybody hunts in their own way and convey their excitement and love for the sport in their own way their own way.

I have a permanent grin from listening to to this. Could not have hit the nail on the head more square. ❤💪🏻

There is an old saying, haters are going to hate. Don't let what other people say dictate how you act. Keep on keeping on man!

Having a hunting app gives an excuse to be on the phone. It's easier to justify the interaction

Rogan is helping make hunting mainstream. If you think thats a bad thing then sure he's terrible

@@Steve-ev6vx I didn't think of that at all, that's a fair argument. It seems the cards are always stacked against the common man

play this video on 1.5x speed it is much better. they take so long to think then talk. lol
Yeah, thinking before you speak is clearly not an issue you deal with.
Is rogan the devil hes talking about? Ha
🤣 he’s not. But the “devil” has been a guest on Rogan! 😉
