I think lots of people, me include are getting frustrated with the grip and grin posts on IG and FB. Especially when we have been out 5-7 and haven't heard anything. So hearing the stories of the hard hunts is more real and relatable to people.
Keep it up man another good podc5!

Dang- next point is 🔥 also! Attempted a 4 day backcountry hunt that required 8 miles in. Ended up with a 71lb pack and my son was at 55lbs. After a few miles realized we were in over our head physically. Our next hunt is with someone we recently met and will be livestock supported but I gotta get my pack weight down (no electric fence this time). I just ordered a down quilt and 1lb pad- that’s 5lbs

Make sure pad is insulated or at a minimum get a space blanket to put underneath the pad to up the R value of the pad. Just got back from archery hunt and guy I was hunting with was freezing cause his pad wasn’t insulated and his quilt wasn’t big enough to wrap up in. Gave him a space blanket and that helped quite a bit. This was late September in MT. Not sure where you are headed but hope it helps

Well said. It's one of my biggest pet peeves, listening to a new or old hunting influencer "ambassador" saying the same thing we've heard at nauseum, only on a different podcast or social post. I get it, there's only so many things you can talk about, but at least put your own real and unique spin on it, get creative. Be honest, be true (good or bad) and that will attract eyes and ears. You do this very well Jay. I'm a fairly new hunter (6 years) grew up around it (not family but friends) but didn't have the mental focus and patience to dive into it until recently, I'm 45 now. I've really struggled this last year and a half getting comfortable solo hunting. Not sure why, but I couldn't agree more that the key is to start small and keep pushing a bit more and growing into bigger "bites". Thanks for all the honesty man, it's a welcome oasis in this hunting desert.

Definitely put your bear in the book. Books are not for ego, books are designed to track the quality of animals in various areas. It's important for wildlife management that we track these stats and records. A bonus is the fact that you shot a book animal!

Love the thoughts on “influencers” I’m adult onset but without means- I do think there are alot of influencers that are complete Bull- but I’ve learned so much in the last few years that my son and I are learning.

What is the pricing for the hunts? Both Black Bear and Mule Deer?
    Cheers

Black Bear is between $5000 and $7000 USD and Mule Deer is between $7000 and $8000 USD. I have a discount going for the first year.

Good podcast. If you don’t love hunting, don’t do it. Pretty solid advice.
Nobody ever gives the 8x glass any love. I’ve got a set of 8x50 Leica Ultravids that I LOVE. Put them on a tripod and they’re magical.
I recently bought some Zeiss Conquest HD 15x56. I have not had a chance to really dig into them but I don’t know if they’re better than the Leica. There’s a quality difference there but the Zeiss are brand new and the Leica are 20 years old.

I know thjey updated the coatings in the new Conquest HD's. Supposed to be a notable improvement.
