James Garner was a genuine person. I met him 3 times, when he attended a local, posh, golf course for a charity event. 3 years running, and he remembered my name the 2nd and 3rd times! Not many top actors could do that.
This film holds a special place in my heart WHY? It was one of the last two films I watched with my beloved father on British television before he passed away, the other film being the noir/ western BAD DAY IN BLACK ROCK (1955) also directed by John Sturges, two years before his first handling of the Tombstone story featuring Burt Lancaster with Kirk Douglas as Earp and Holliday GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORAL
From the same director who gave us the more famous depiction of the Tombstone story John Sturges from 10 years earlier featuring Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORAL
@@jeffreycuray81963 I kind of liked Sutherland Senior in Don't Look Now, with Julie Christie. And in Klute, with Jane Fonda. Otherwise he doesn't appeal much to me. But Ryan's actin always makes me feel esthetically satisfied.
Garner is sort of playing against his usual charming, fast-talking type of role. He's very good as a reserved man carrying a very heavy burden of loss. Robards gets to play the more colorful role and is wonderful. I just wish Ryan had more screen time.
I remember seeing this movie in the late '60s. It's a true classic. I see it once a year, and I know the dialogue backward, yet it's always brand new whenever I see it. Amazing.
Good movie and a great story of the famous marshalls Wyap Earp in Tombstone Arizona with great actors, the action and drama, I really enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing.
Just a grateful thank you for not showing Doc dying. As a super black is black and white is white person Doc just grows on you. The west was for the strong certainly not the weak. Great movie always loved 'maverivk".

It will make anyone a scholar of American film … even over & above Martin Ritt’s output. Viddy Well, my Droogies!! 🍀 🌹 & 🌹🌹🌹
For me the best version of OK Corral. Sturges had already directed Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas with the same theme, but I consider Hour of the Gun superior, much more consistent. A great western !!!
Great post, sat through the whole movie. Alcoholics Anonymous, eat your hearts out. This movie walks one through what it's like to be an alcoholic, and Jason Robarbs does an excellent job portraying it. What a insightful character study of what Ethyl Alcohol does to one. Loved it and thanks a plenty. Hey there were no females in the movie? Who needs em...Hah hah hah...but its very very unusual for a Western Cowboy movie not to have a dame...eh...
Though touted as such by the media and certain people, this film is nothing like the real Tombstone and the factions of the Cowboys and the Earps. For one thing there were 5 Cowboys in the street next to the OK Corral, but Billy Claiborne fled before the shooting started, and Ike Clanton after it began, Begging Wyatt Earp for his life!!!! He also was no political mastermind, he was a cattle thief for his Restaurant. He also was not killed by Earp, but by a Correspondence school detective while stealing more cattle!!! While Garner makes a good Earp, Robards is too old, and there was never anyone named Latigo. I could go on but this would last far more than it’s Worth!!
Merci beaucoup cinémium j'ai vue plusieurs versions mais pour moi c'est la meilleure surtout avec James garner qui pour moi est toujours un des acteurs très bon dans ces rôles ❤❤❤❤❤❤ anne
No Ringo. James Garner is one of my favorites, but almost all of his characters had some sarcastic humor about him. He was plumb serious as Wyatt Earp. Though he did okay, I didn't think it was a great part for him. Just me talking.
This is great when I was sworn in as a pony express rider it was on the trail and on the Bible. I'm a gun packing postal worker. Sworn by God . And the postal service . Funny thing the Government regulations. I'm reactive. I can deliver the mail and carry a gun . Like the original Pony Express . Sworn on the trail carrying real mail. True statement.
there must have been around 20 movies about the ok corral shoot, when the truth it was in a alley! Also like not the movies it was bullets flying everywhere. My favorite Wyat Earp was Costners version. in his younger scenes he witnessed a true western shoot out, do drunks firing bullets everywhere till they kill each other and the shot horses put down ! it started the classic drop to the floor! lol
It would get taken down immediately if they did. They don’t own the rights to the picture so enjoy it while it’s available. It probably doesn’t last long enough for you to read this reply. You’re welcome.
Great western with great actors . The only thing i am against is Robards part , i am not saying he did not made good job but i feel he is old for this part he played . Maybe because i saw others in the same story could be to . But over all it is a great western and i enjoy watching it . Thanks
Research by one source indicates the shootout actually took place in a narrow lot on the side of C. S. Fly's photography studio on Fremont Street, six doors west of the O.K. Corral's rear entrance.
Although inaccurate it far outweighs "Doc" made 4 years later. Garner does his best in portraying Earp as grim and unemotional, yet cool and unflinching. This was Earp's persona. Robards, although older than the real Holliday was at the time, also does well. I'm not so sure if the real Holliday was concerned with Earp losing his character. He was a loyal friend who was in it for a pound. Robert Ryan is a superior actor, but Clanton wasn't a land baron. Clanton was a rustler/rancher, loud-mouth/coward that provoked the gunfight at the O.K.corral and lost the case for the prosecution by being a not-too-bright liar. I don't know if Ryan could be cast correctly to portray the real Ike Clanton. But he does well regardless. Earp also didn't really kill Ike. This movie does explore the vigilante ride of Wyatt and Doc after the wounding of Virgil and the killing of Morgan Earp. Pete Spence was never a sheriff, and Sherm McMasters was a cowboy that informed for Wyatt. The movie is a superior western and as close to accurate as Hollywood came until "Tombstone" and "Wyatt Earp". The mood is somewhat interesting but it wasn't a moral struggle for Wyatt and Doc in real life. They were doing what they felt was right, vengeance. Earp thought in very black and white terms, killing his brothers killers was the right thing to do in his mind. It didn't matter if it was against the law he often swore to protect as a peace officer in those western boom towns. He was always upright and correct in his profession as a lawman, but in matters of family he was not on the job and no longer wearing a badge. his duty to law enforcement no longer applied.
Wery good movie first time watching today , I noticed that Jason Robards look little bit like also great actor Fred Gwynne , first I thinked it was Fred Gwyne but he was much longer.
James Garner and Jason Robards - don't have to ask me if I'm watching - two of the best actors in the past 60 years. God' blessings. Lucky Me.

You cannot beat the old western movies, and this one "Hour of the Gun" (1967) is amongst the best of them.
Thank you, this movie had a lot of competition in 1967... And still fares well today.

The Best Western movie ever.

I have always loved James Garner but Robert Ryan is one of the best actors, ever.❤
Same here. I actually consider Ryan a superior actor to Garner. And way more handsome.

Many thanks for sharing this masterpiece of Western.
An oldie goldie. Not a western fan, but this is a good one. Thanks for the load
I love the title on UA-cam - Marvelous Western. Great cast of familiar character actors!

If it has James garner in it. It's worth the watch
Really great portrayal of Earp. No nonsense. Hope you have seen the movie 48 Hours.
Watch DUEL AT DIABLO !
Robert Ryan always played the titular a hole in most of the films he did. Don't remember him ever playing a good guy. The man you loved to hate.
"titular a hole" - perfect.
In "The Professionals"
he was a good guy
Brilliant film. Magnificent Actors. 😮
This is as good as any of the Earp CLANTON sagas ever ....GAWD !!!!😊
I you have watched this great film then you can seewhere Tombstone came from another great film as well

Marvelous movie. Top notch performance from both of them.
Hour of the gun… score by Jerry Goldsmith .. very enjoyable. 🥰
Garner and Robards play Earp and Holiday as good as anyone.... classic!!!!!
Jon Voigt playing a real cowboy just before he did Midnight Cowboy and got nominated for an Oscar.
Sad to see Voigts mental decline since then. Just a jibbering mess now.

They were having to much fun for the academy crowd.

The name of the movie (Hour of the Gun 1967)
Garner played a great Wyatt Earp.
Used to love aaJames Garner as Maverick 😊😊
Really liked him in the Rockford files , also in support your local Sheriff
More familiar with him as Jim Rockford from the detective series of the 1970’s

This definitely darker depiction of the Tombstone story than GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORAL
Disagree with you on that one. Even though Hour of the Gun is great western, it's not as good as Gunfight At The OK Corral. Just my opinion.
Thanks
One of the greatest western of the 20th century.
I've always thought "Hour of the Gun" was one of the best Westerns. Garner plays a serious role, which he rarely did during his career.

Jason Robards, though a good actor was too old for this part for doc holiday. Doc holiday was only about 30 years old at this time.
the tv show, tombstone territory, is also very good & is taken from the pages of the newspaper, at the time.
