I recently did a Bond marathon when they were on Amazon Prime a couple of months back, must have been 20+ years since I saw most of them. The quality of the films obviously varies enormously, but the music and the themes were etched in my brain like it was yesterday. Except the Madonna one, obviously. WTF were they thinking that day?
The madonna tune fitted well with that particular bond movie.......it was also shit. Die another day was like watching a Leslie Nielson film, without Leslie Nielson in it.
Gee, there are some great Bond theme songs, I think the Chris Cornell - you know my name for Casino Royale is my favourite. It moves along at a good tempo, it has emotion, it contains the motif
I find myself leaning towards "The Living Daylights" as my favorite Bond theme. The combination of classic A-ha synth-pop and Bond strings just does it for me. The live versions get even better, because when they perform it Pål includes the classic theme in his guitar solo.
I would agree whole heartedly with that. In fact it was partly Justin who gave me the muse to begin learning the guitar again, just because of the intro music. Amazing how small things can have a huge impact.
Live and Let Die is my favourite Bond Theme. It's the first one that always springs to mind when thinking of Bond movies too and I loved the GNR cover version too.....
I demand a double album of Justin Hawkins acoustic covers of the Bond themes. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUNNN DUN DUN DUN.
Your channel has become an absolute favorite. Thanks for putting a spotlight on Monty Norman. It seems that John Barry typically gets most of the love when it comes to Bond music, and perhaps rightfully so, but it was lovely to hear you speak about Monty and credit him with starting it all...
This was bloody fantastic! I'm made up you covered Monty. I'm even more made up with your renditions you treated us to. Thank you! Mr Hawkins, 'nobody does it better' mate. Now give us a bond theme album, seriously.
Macca and George Martin managed to do a great - probably the best - Bond theme without using the rising fifth motif, though they did add an augmented fifth during the verses to give it that Bond tension.
Great episode! My dad has always been a big Bond fan and it has rubbed off on me. I've seen every single Bond film. Also, love the tux on top and shorts on bottom! 😎
You always say "brilliant" where it's due. You sir, are brilliant! I'm a small time musician, record producer, and all around music lover. My lady usually hates my late night antics and talks of the night life that is "a show" but since I've found your channel, we come home after the shows, cook a feed and listen to your show every night! You've brought our two worlds together and in that thought, I thank you!
“Arrangement” in this case meant “The first guy gets full credit, but we need you to finish this music because it’s incomplete.” John Barry and Monty Norman are equally responsible for the Bond theme. Barry’s and Norman’s parts are equally iconic. RIP Monty.
Did you know that Jimmy Page, back when he was a session guitarist, played guitar for the Goldfinger track? I got to play a lot of the Bond repertoire with my orchestra. We projected movie clips from various Bond films and accompanied them….kinda like working as film score musicians/cues. It was fun. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. I’ve really enjoyed playing some of his compositions. I’ve practiced his work enough so that he has embedded himself into my musical DNA (just like Bach, Bartok, Paganini, Ysaye). So, I’m both grateful & sad today. R.I.P. Monty Norman
Great tribute Justin!,and you began with Thunderball by Tom Jones.Very compelling. Duran Duran's version of the Bond theme was brilliant, with its guitar, bass, horns and enough of the score very faithful in reflecting many aspects of the original theme. Ah so many memories of the of all the Bond incarnations, and the main theme an intergral common thread throughout them all.. Just splendid.
What a wonderful episode paying tribute to the brilliant composer Monty Norman by giving us some beautiful covers of some of the bond themes! I too learned this amongst some of the first riffs on guitar and have great memories watching those classic Bond movies with family. RIP Monty!
Don’t forget the James Bond chord….! Low E open A string 4th finger 10th fret D string 3rd finger 9th fret G string 2nd finger 8th fret B string 1st finger 7th fret Top E open
By far, one of the best JHRA! Something so haunting about the Bond themes. Simple and effectual. Found myself singing along with your version of The Spy Who Loved Me. Brilliant.
This brings back great memories of my childhood when Dad would play his acoustic and take requests from myself and younger brother .When he played the Bond theme or Batman we thought it was 'so heavy as to be molten metal", kids LOL! Great tribute to awesome film composer Justin!
When I was 7 and my brother 9 we tried playing it in the back of my dads Maxi on the way home from buying his first acoustic from Becketts in Southampton. 46 years later and I still play that theme along with Apache by The Shadows! Great way to fall in love with the guitar. Great videos by the way!
Justin! Thank you SOOOOOOO much for singing Nobody Does it Better! I’ve never heard ANYONE sing it as Beautifullly as you. Seriously, nobody does it better than that! Listening over & over & over. You are an Amazing talent with Thee Most Beautiful voice! Thank you again for sharing. I want to hear you sing more!!!
Tom Jones' pipes in that session ... geez!! The older themes (Connery #1) will likely always be my favourites. So many inspired choices for vocalists that still give me chills!
Carly's, Nobody Does it Better is among the favorites for me, as well as Sheena Easton's, For Your Eyes Only, Wings, Live and Let Die, Duran Duran, View to a Kill, and of course Shirley's Gold Finger...I may be wrong, but I think Shirley Bassey is the only artist so far, to have sung the title tracks for two Bond movies , the second being Diamonds are Forever..it'd be great to see you delve into more Bond themes Justin
Chris Cornell’s Birthday is today. He wrote and sang “You Know My Name” for a Bond movie. Thought I would mention that since I ran across your video. Thank you.
Have been a Bond fan all my life. Had a digital watch as a 7yr old that played the theme song. Some great songs, old and new. I'd put Carly Simon's right up there with Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only. Goldeneye was another good one. Actually, they're all good. Lovely tribute...
I never knew we needed an album of Justin singing bond covers,,,yet here we are. Ps, I can't believe you didn't add the bond theme to the end of your theme. Shocking
I can certainly relate to you not wearing any trousers in the currently super-heated UK Justin. I don't think any of us are! In fact, massive respect to you for managing to put on a jacket.
Sad indeed. Nice that you chose a Spy Who loved me. As Radiohead always played it as the go to sound check tune of choice. I know you like a bit of Radiohead. I think there is a recording of them doing it as B-side on a CD single. I imagine available now on all streaming service. Best UA-cam channel Justin. Thanks.
Monty Norman wrote the Bond theme, but it was John Barry who arranged it. I've got to say that Norman's soundtrack for Dr No is very dated, but it was John Barry who made the "Bond sound" on later soundtracks. As a Bond fan it was great to hear you sing some classic themes, but pleased you didn't pass out like Tom Jones did on the last note of "ThunderBAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL...."
Thanks for all of your videos on here. Especially enjoyed this one as it shows your appreciation to all kinds of music no matter where it originated. If your musical career doesn't take off then you could get a job as a music teacher. I look forward to your next installment. Cheers, Andy
Great video, love the positivity you always have Mr Hawkins. I am a new subscriber just watched about 20 of your videos in the last few days… awesome! I would like to see you do a video on smart guitars (Lava Music ME 3 etc) if you feel it fits your format. Much appreciated Sir.
As a huge Bond fan this was an absolute treat. Nice one Justin. More Bond related videos would be awesome maybe a countdown of your top 10 favourite theme songs?
Anyone else sitting here, desperately wishing for an announcement that Hawkins is gonna do an album of Bond covers? Yes, of course you are! Make it happen JH.
Looking very dapper there Justin! I think you'd make a fantastic Bond villain actually. Bond: well Justin, we meet again Justin: we do? I don't think I've had the pleasure my dear Mr Bond.
Fantastic episode. Would love to hear you do some Living Daylights or A View To A Kill. Some truly fantastic Bond songs. And I have to say the Bond theme is my all time favourite piece of film music. Just completely iconic and a joy to listen to x
Yes, Justin, more Bond. You can never have too much Bond. Thank you for doing this episode. Much respect to Mr. Monty Norman. I didn't expect Thunderball, btw. Nice.
All together now! "I was born with this unlucky sneeze, And what is worse I came into the wrong way round. Pundits all agree that I'm the reason why, My father fell into the village pond, And drowned. I was born... un-der a bad sign! Everybody worries 'bout my sneeze. Achew!" Lovely tribute!
The most influential piece of modern music. I’ve heard it in so many great British rock bands. Some US indie also but if you listen for it, you will hear it. Love it…. One of my earliest memories in the early 70’s of how a movie pulls you in. Radiohead’s version of ‘Nobody does it better’ is well worth the revisit.
Justin , being such a fan of this piece of music, you must take a look at the QI UA-cam clip, origins of theJames Bond theme, it will brighten your day. Brilliant tribute btw, I’m loving your show💕
I would so listen to a whole album of Justin doing all the Bond themes. Over and over 😁
Totally agree
Aww Dach.. Would be fab...
Maybe not over and over but I'd give it a listen
It calls for a cover album for sure!
I just wish he put on some pants in the is video...
When you moved your guitar to reveal you were not wearing pants made me spit out my coffee. Well played Mr. Hawkins, well played indeed.
that was chuckleworthy agreed
Justin Hawkins looking like he is going to meet M on a Zoom call, dressed to the nines from the waist up :)
A really underrated bass player in Paul Ryder of Happy Mondays passed away man. Tart Tart is a bass masterclass. Sad times.
The Madonna one is the only recent Bond theme I've liked. I must be in a minority.
Billie Eilish was worse cant stand that green haired monster
They were still high on Cher’s “Believe”… hell, we’re just lucky to have dodged a Fred Durst appearance by a year or two.
If you were to pick 1 film from each main actor.
Goldfinger
Spy who Loved me
Living Daylights
Goldeneye
Casino Royale
When the album of Justin singing Bond themes is released I will have it on pre order. Rest well Monty.
Gee, there are some great Bond theme songs, I think the Chris Cornell - you know my name for Casino Royale is my favourite. It moves along at a good tempo, it has emotion, it contains the motif
I’d agree with that, You know my name contains all the crucial elements of a classic Bond theme.
I like that, as most of us who work from home, you're clearly not wearing any pants below the suit jacket. lol.
What a beautiful tribute to Monty. Thanyou.
I find myself leaning towards "The Living Daylights" as my favorite Bond theme. The combination of classic A-ha synth-pop and Bond strings just does it for me. The live versions get even better, because when they perform it Pål includes the classic theme in his guitar solo.
RESPECT.....👍👍👍👍👍🎸
It's a great one, but I still lean towards Live and Let Die as the greatest.
@@mitchmichaelcoburn1577 Well, both are great classics.
It was awful.
@@mrcodhead67 I respect your opinion.
You have become the music appreciation course I wish I had taken in school: keep on Bonding! 😍
I would agree whole heartedly with that. In fact it was partly Justin who gave me the muse to begin learning the guitar again, just because of the intro music. Amazing how small things can have a huge impact.
@@71771PAULTHEWALLOFSOUND So happy for you!!

Thanks 🙂
Live and Let Die is my favourite Bond Theme. It's the first one that always springs to mind when thinking of Bond movies too and I loved the GNR cover version too.....
Agreed. The awkward tautology of "world in which we live in" gets on my nerves though, it should be "in which we're living".
I demand a double album of Justin Hawkins acoustic covers of the Bond themes. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUNNN DUN DUN DUN.
That was a lovely tribute Justin. Well done!
Thanks so much Reid!

Macca and George Martin managed to do a great - probably the best - Bond theme without using the rising fifth motif, though they did add an augmented fifth during the verses to give it that Bond tension.
It's remarkable how three notes can be so instantly recognisable and iconic. Was also the first thing I learned on the piano.
Great episode! My dad has always been a big Bond fan and it has rubbed off on me. I've seen every single Bond film. Also, love the tux on top and shorts on bottom! 😎
Chris Cornell "You know my name" is the greatest (Modern) Bond theme, /end! Here's to Monty, what a legend!

I think The Darkness needs to do a Carly Simon cover… that would be hella rock n roll sick
+1

Love bond. Love you. Just listened to permission to land for the first time. Good ass rock and roll.
JUSTIN, i'd LOVE if the Darkness were to write a song for a new Bond film....!!!
Hey thanks Justin I forgot I knew those riffs and as soon as you began playing it all came back instantly. I love when that happens.
Love it when you sing and play Bond themes! 😍 You need to compose one too. 🙏🏻🤞
Sad indeed. But your modification of your theme was brilliant!

Omg seeing Justin in that suit makes me realize Justin must be the next Bond AND Doctor!!! Just merge them already!
Aaaawwww PLEASE do ALL the bond songs!!! Would be SPECTACULAR!
like power ballad status… going hard with big solos, open chords, and some blue eyed soul from Mr. HAkwins. So good had to comment twice.
I am new to your channel but absolutely love it and look forward to the notifications saying there is a new video available. Keep on keeping on 😊🎸🕺
Thanks Ellen!
That suit! The note at the end of Thunderball! What a video! All praise to Monty Norman.
Don’t forget the James Bond chord….!
Low E open
A string 4th finger 10th fret
D string 3rd finger 9th fret
G string 2nd finger 8th fret
B string 1st finger 7th fret
Top E open
To simplify, a B major with an E in the bass.

Beautiful paen to Mr Monty Norman. Brilliant Justin. 👍❤️
A very heartfelt tribute. I can't listen to 'Nobody Does It Better' without hearing the Five Pints advert.
Why have I only recently discovered that JH has a channel?!
Brilliant videos. Entertaining AND educational! Love them.
Your voice is so lush and beautiful. That was so beautiful ♡
So much love and good vibes to you Mr. Hawkins
Yes! Absolutely more episodes on Bond themes, and Bond scores. Thank you Justin.

I love that you donned a suit and bow-tie for this. Classy move. Very nice tribute, Mr. Hawkins.

Great stuff. Don't forget Vic Flick and his Clifford Essex Paragon De Luxe!
What a lively (& credible!) tribute, Justin Hawkins. And: pantsless!

That intro run on the Bond Theme 👏🏼
Love the channel Justin ❤
Yes! Great hearing you belt out the bond themes 😀
I can certainly relate to you not wearing any trousers in the currently super-heated UK Justin. I don't think any of us are!
In fact, massive respect to you for managing to put on a jacket.
Didn’t know the riff towards the end was written to compliment the existing motif. Perfect Em intro, knew it was coming :)
3:53 channeling his inner Gary Barlow with that "oh it's awesome,"🤣
Live and Let Die and Goldfinger are class tunes but the main James Bond theme by Monty Norman is the iconic classic!
What an amazing voice you have...But then again we've all known that for years...
Great run at life, extraordinary life in music. God bless him and his family.
The darkness should do a Bond song!!!!!!!! For the next film
Sad indeed. Nice that you chose a Spy Who loved me. As Radiohead always played it as the go to sound check tune of choice. I know you like a bit of Radiohead. R.I.P Monty, great tune man!🎸🤘🎸
What a fantastic tribute. Justin, you’re a scholar and a gentleman!
Those were beautiful covers. Could listen to an entire album of that.
Fantastic tribute. More Bond please!
Didn't realise Justin was a newsreader, not wearing anything under the desk, very risque
Thanks for all of your videos on here. Especially enjoyed this one as it shows your appreciation to all kinds of music no matter where it originated. If your musical career doesn't take off then you could get a job as a music teacher. I look forward to your next installment. Cheers, Andy
