Nancy boy was ahead of its time. Absolutely adore Placebo. Unique band that I don’t hear enough about. Lyrics are poetry and nostalgic. Their sound will always transport me to another dimension.
I’m in the US and they’re my favorite band. But I did move here from Europe. I’ve seen them many times in Vegas and LA and I’ll be seeing them again this coming tour. They’re the best!
As a young man I loved anything aggressive, anything violent, I liked old metal, "nu-metal", gangsta rap, from both coasts, anything with an edge. But the minute I heard Placebo I had to admit, it spoke to the inner emo inside of me. Great band, still making great music.
It’s forever good. The world needs amazing people like Brian Molko unsettling people. Our 5 year old son has (very) long hair and other kids frequently refuse to believe he’s a boy. That’s where we are. Still, in 2022. Some friends of ours son is the same, a bit older, and he’s been asked if he’s transitioning, before simply being a boy with long hair. So yes. Relevant song. Relevant band. Always.
And yes. Placebo holds up. As we get older we grow less and less likely to discover another new favorite band. Discovered them in my 20s and they are still one of my absolute favorite bands. This album is amazing.
Placebo are a fantastic band, there's a great dvd live in Paris,it's sublime. Great live band. Special K and black eyed, and bitter end are fantastic songs.
I love when a band still manages to give me a new favorite song, even after being active for decades. Usually my favorite song is from the earliest days, but Placebo gave me ''Beautiful James'' and ''Went Missing''. Their entire discography ages like wine to me.
I want to thank you for recommending their cover of Bigmouth Strikes again! I've been a fan of Placebo for many years and Bigmouth Strikes Again is one of my favorite Smiths songs, and I didn't even know they covered it. It was great, thanks again!
I loved them from their 1st album and particularly this song. They happened at a time when I thought punk was nothing but history repeating. Thank you for deconstructing one of my favourite bands into F majors and evil B's. Am a happy C now.
I just stumbled across this video, I enjoyed it, as Nancy Boy DEFINITELY holds up, as does every single Placebo song. They’re often ahead of their time. The Meds album (06) is one of the greatest albums I’ve had the pleasure or enjoying
all their covers were very well done. Great track choices and usually put their own soul into it. They did such a diverse and crazy amount of demo's too, from Morrissey to Syd Barett and what else
Great stuff Juzzo. I first heard "Pure Morning" and I was hooked by Placebo straight away. I also thought at the time "who are these stoners?" with the fuzzy guitar and the weed reference. I then discovered it was just a string to their bow in the uniqueness that is Placebo. So good.
I love placebo. I honestly appreciate them more now than I did then. Their music really embodies the time it was made in but it's also got this authenticity that makes it completely timeless. Begin the end and special needs are my absolute favorites. Brian Molko has such a beautiful understated intensity in his vocals.
I Looooooove Placebo one of my all time favorite bands , I was introduced to them in 2010 they have definitely carved a part of themselves deep within my heart and morphed within my soul, I can't go a day without listening to at least one song or two to get my day started
Placebo was a band that helped me through many phases of my life. Their topics of drug abuse, physical abuse, sexuality, etc. were well explored and are written so poetically it couldn’t help but touch my soul.
Superb band, superb track. I've followed them since this came out and still love them. Enjoy their newer stuff too and looking forward to seeing them in Cambridge in December

Love Placebo big part of my childhood in a strange way. My Dad was an actor/director in Melbourne Australia. I remember he and a bunch of acting buddies performing a Placebo song as part of one of their shows. I am pretty sure the pianist my dad worked with knew Brian Molko.
these are just the best videos Justin. I absolutely love them and you are giving me a new insight to these songs that I loved when I was younger. Brilliant!
They are very talented both Brian and Stefan love what they do in the 90's there wasn't a band like them their new album is pretty good also.Fantastic band
Yes, "both Brian and Stefan love what they do". I totally agree. The soundscapes they create are fantastic. I enjoy reading about how they are still fascinated with instrumentation and arrangements. The layering provides a great accompaniment to Brian's voice while also allowing space for the guitars to kick in for extra dramatic effect.
Can't wait to see them in Paris next week ! I love this band for years now thanks to my older sister. The last time I saw them was for their anniversary tour in 2016... Although I really started to listen to them with Battle for the Sun, one of my favorite albums is still the first one. So young, fresh, full of anger and love. Don't drive that much, but when I do, listening to alt-rock radio, this is an absolute staple. Brilliant stuff, and yes, the bass really ties the song together. 25 years? Eh, I feel old now.
I love Placebo, this song is solid. This is super awesome Stefan Olsdal is always on point with his bass, it's exactly what the bass should be, just bloody blood beat "pulse!" Under Brian's belligerent guitar and singing. It's awesome! This was awesome. All their covers are awesome too! Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ♡!

I remember watchihng Placebo at T In The Park 2001 not knowing too much about them and was absolutely blown away. Hands down the tightest rhythm section at the whole festival!
Justin, two wee questions for comments day. You are a very dapper dresser (both on stage and in civi life) and have an admirable aesthetic appreciation of clothing and style. How has your personal style evolved over the years (on/off stage)? Secondly, where do you generally acquire your clobber? Tailor made? Vintage? Designer? Charity shops? M&S? Whatever, it’s all utterly glorious ❤ (she said, clad in Primark joggers, a Prince t-shirt, and a cardigan that fell apart years ago😂)
Finally! I've been waiting for this review for a long time Justin :) - I think there are several Placebos: The Nancy Boy era, the Without you I am nothing, The Meds era (my favourite), The "positive and life is beautiful" era, and now the Isoletation. And the beautiful thing is that you can see how even old songs evolved into their new mindset, for example all the versions of 36 degrees. I have the mentla pictture of their music as a sweet pink truck. Powerful, big machine heavy distorted/overdrived chords with emotional screams and moans. No fancy shredding, beautiful solid and fundamental bass, and the drums from melancholic, beautiful resonants to catchy industrial beats. Placebo is one of my favourite band because they sound so signature to themselves. Stefan Olsdal is probably of my biggest guitar influence (people often think he is the bassist, which he is on studio). With the years I've gel the lyrics went meh, but the passion and emotion they put in their songs, and specially live is just ... wow! Edit: I would have tought you and Brian and Stefan are good friends, not saying you are not, but more close. You are succesful musicians, based in London, true to their influences, with strong believes and a beautiful way of seein life.
Placebo are one of them bands you just don't confuse with any other band, they are unique.
Exactly ❤️
Much like the Wiggles!
@@andysalter7192 Hahahaha!! Oh man, you made me look up the Wiggles!! For this, I cannot forgive you!! 🤣🤪😁
I mean, based on this song, I could confuse them with pretty much every rock band from the 90s
Is their whole discography like this?
A three piece where the singer is a dick? Been done before and since.
Placebo is my favorite band. Molko’s voice goes under your skin. His lyrics and vocal delivery are just divine. They really need more praise
Check out Volbeat, his voice is immense.
@@richardjones2811 no
His voice is very distinctive.
I've only ever heard "gets under your skin" to mean something irritating and the dictionary even uses voice as an example.
The dictionary states - get under (one's) skin
1. To become a source of irritation.
I just can't stand Dean's voice, so everything he says gets under my skin.
It's only the placebo effect
Placebo's cover version of Running Up That Hill is superb. I love them.
Better than the original. There, I said it. Sorry, Kate.

Nancy Boy is great, but Teenage Angst is 2 minutes and 35 seconds of perfection.
Since I was born I started to decay ... Wow
These guys have made history and touch so many souls with their intimate (but straight forward) music.
Absolutely, nothing wrong with Nancy Boy, but there’s far better tracks on their debut album.
The drumming on the album is superb 🤘
