Wow…what a Beautiful piece. I was worn out after the first 30 minutes or so…the amount of work and man hours it took to create this and the numerous problems that kept happening I have to say Bravo for your persistence and determination to get it done. I don’t think most people who will see a piece like this realize the amount of work/labor it takes. Again Bravo it’s a Beauty!
I’m new to Woodturning, just reached my one year mark, and I just recently had my first Disastrous event. Also happened to my Biggest resin pour… like a $100 worth of resin. It shoulda been about 10 inches tall and the pour was about the same in width. So to “save” on resin I put this very hard plastic container in the center. What a MISTAKE. I opened the Pressure Pot and immediately noticed the resin was down like 2 inches then I noticed the center container had been Crushed and Collapsed. What a mess…so now I knew where all my resin had gone.
I did manage to save the piece and yes it was a complete design change. Now 2 inches shorter but getting the plastic container out of the center which in one spot had blown out almost to the edge of the casting…one issue after another. I finally had it shaped and all the sanding/polishing down the only thing left was a little touch up work on the bottom.
Yep you guessed it…..it FLEW OFF THE LATHE AND WHEN IT HIT THE CONCRETE FLOOR…IT CRACKED. A Huge Crack(s) in fact. I was so upset that after picking it up I nearly just smashed it on the floor…that’s how I felt anyway. But after I calmed down and lots of ca glue it was back on the lathe and had to be rounded again then sanded and polished. In the end tho… it is a Stunning piece. Probably my Best work yet but what a Nightmare. 😊
Thank you it really took some doing. 🙂 it’s good to know I’m not the only one that has problems to solve. Good luck with your projects and thanks for sharing your story. 🙂🙂
Lots of trouble shooting in this one, you're very good at problem-solving. Look forward to the next video.
This one tested me, next video should be up next week, thanks for your comment.🙂
With all the problems you had with this one it sure turned out beautiful! 👍🏻 I really like how the resin turned out! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. The resin really does look good. Many thanks for your comment 😀
Very beautiful piece of artwork
Thankyou. 🙂
I know it was a “make-do” moment, but it would be cool to 3d print a pattern (like lace or flowers etc) then resin over it so that so that it isn’t exposed to the touch but just barely shows through, or maybe is visible when backlit
Great idea. I have some projects on the bench with patterned moulds . First one should be uploaded next week 🙂
Such a beautiful design. 👍👍
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful work 👏 👌
Thanks for watching
Outstanding
Thanks Tim 🙂
Thanks for sharing that ! Cheers
Thanks 😁
Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to see another video. I know all about those small accidents in a woodworking shop. Turned out quite well. Thanks. 🙏
its good to be back 🙂
You know the artists that do paint pours through odd things to make unique patterns? What if you 3d printed something like the pachinko pegs to agitate the resin as you pour it in? Something like the spokes of a wheel, but a really wide wheel with way more spokes toward one edge and way fewer on the other edge. I have no idea how else to explain it.
Watch this space. I have some projects coming up that you may like 🙂 great suggestions keep them coming 😏
