I have found this to definitely be true once I really started trimming my skirts this year. And I don't know how I missed this video. As I watch everyone you put out
When you were sponsored by dirty jigs, I decided to try their swim jigs and got the finesse ones that the inner skirt is already cut and has less strands. The other day I was fishing with a friend and my swim jig was producing more and coming up with less algae than a full skited swim jig. We were using the same boot tail and colors. The biggest difference was the skirt.
Awesome info and tips in this video. I always enjoy your videos because they are so informative and you explain it all in detail and the reasoning behind your advise. Keep’em coming!! 👍👍
I like the flat rubber skirts more than the jig type skirts , and Northland does make some with both , with straight strands and flat rubber in the same skirt
I don’t know why jig manufacturers offer so many colors. I wish they’d offer 5/6 colors and then also a naked option. I like to make my own skirts. For swim jigs I only use 2 tabs total. I agree about the thinner skirts, trimming the under strands and length.
I noticed years ago I had an old beat chatter bait that damn near looked like a finesse jig with umbrella collar that just got bite more I had to retire it so I had a brand new one with them below the hook trim still was getting bit as much but one day I decided to rip strands out and made it look beat up like the old instantly started getting bit more
You ever try to add double the amount of tabs? Really makes for a beefy profile, and with the right blades they shake and shimmy homie. Keeps the hook totally clear for the set.
Great videos Matt l need to try that. If you can help me I am trying to find out how to be a boat official for next year. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you P.A. old guy
That's funny. It's kind of the opposite for me. I like a small spinnerbait in the fall. I think it's just because I haven't fished a chatterbait enough. Also, I live in the Ozarks so we don't have a lot of grass.
@MattStefanFishing all I do is catch grass and pads with them. Literally seems like first contact with them it gets wrapped around blade, stops spinning, then I'm dragging 4lb bog monsters in and have to pull off.

Good tip. I was thinking about this last week throwing a chatterbait so thank you!

Thank Matt, you originally taught me to trim skirts and it greatly helped my to catch more fish. I love fishing spinner baits now because of it.

🍺Thanks Matt🤠.

Spinnerbaits are my confidence bait for sure. When you kill it and it falls the bass will crush it. I also love slow rolling them.
Me too

I’ve done the same a bunch
the way you trim the skirts is it similar to jigs as well? Also in dirty water, do you still trim the skirt or do it half way?
I still trim in dirty water the same way
I make my own skirts and spinnerbaits I prefer a full skirt but I make my skirts uneven...some strands are longer than the others

How about the red blade , I have never tried it, some say I'm missing out ?
Works great in dark water
It’s a staple for spinnerbait fishing in Oklahoma.

I generally thin it out
I even use flat on my chatterbaits u should see the action with the flat
Very cool

Thanks matt
I can’t catch squat on a spinner bait. I’ll try this mod but I still have zero confidence in them. Chatterbait all day for me.

I can’t catch crap on a chatterbait, share your secrets

I bank fish, seldom take kayak out. I love a spinner bait but too much grass and pads so unusable.
Spinnerbaits are amazing in grass and pads!
