I loved monsters Inc, but I adore monsters university on a whole other level because of how they developed the relationship between sully and Mike, it truly solidified their bond in the first movie
It makes Mike in the og movie way more relatable. He's funny but his entire motivation is getting his life back. This movie makes you understand how hard he worked for that life and how much it meant to him. It makes the bond so much more real when he understands that for sully to be willing to give it up, means that boo must mean a lot to him. Pixar best duo in a lineup of unforgettable iconic duos.
It also makes that duet "I wouldn't have nothing if I didn't have you' that John Goodman and Billy Crystal sing in the end credits of the first film, Soooo much more impactful!
I like to think that their former college mates will be just as successful making kids laugh as well as scaring them. I think their character designs are genius.
A cool detail about Monsters University is that it came out right when the target audience of Monsters Inc would be starting college. It really followed that generation and delivered them a timely message using the characters they loved since childhood.
Definitely better than the first movie. MInc is cute, but MU feels more human, and its core message is important: You might not be able to achieve your dreams, but you can find something better suited to your skill set that can be just as fulfilling. You can fail and still be happy.
I love that last line you said! "You can fail and still be happy" is so true and that's literally just life which I feel MU really captured in a wholesome way. Mike's struggling with his hard work and passion not matching up to his performances or how he's viewed (not for lack of trying) is SO relatable! Sometimes people have limitations that they genuinely cannot overcome ((again, not for lack of trying (mental, physical/motor, environmental, etc. etc.)) and it can be crushing to realize that your dream job/vocation isn't feasible BUT Mike shows that you can always try to find the silver lining. He doesn't become THE scarer, but he became THE scaring coach, fulfilling his dreams of belonging ON the Scare Floor, something his classmates didn't even have the courage to do while Mike happily snuck away and made it happen as KID! And ultimately (as seen in M Inc.) he becomes one of the best performers on the Laughing Floor. Though it wasn't his original "dream", and technically he DID straight up fail out of his dream college, it still made him happy, gave him a lifelong best friend, and eventually an awesome career. This was a lot and I'm sorry 😂I can't help it, MU is such a gem in relatability for everyday adults.
I think also that you can fail and still achieve success especially when it comes to university/college. Many successful people flunked out or couldn't afford university and worked their way up the ladder to get where they wanted- not everyone takes the same road!
This is a fun film but I absolutely love that the film says that sometimes, as hard as you can try, sometimes you don't win and sometimes you have to find an alternate route, a different career, than what you want. That's an extremely rare message that kids, even adults, have a hard time hearing that you don't always get what envisioned for yourself, and that's okay. There are other things you can do.
The lake scene was something I needed way earlier in my life. To be told that sometimes it’s not possible to achieve your dreams even if you try your hardest. It hurt so much hearing that at the age I was when this movie came out, because I was so much older.
I love this movie so much. I really like the lesson in this movie that no matter how passionate you are about something, sometimes for reasons out of your control it won’t work out. It’s super realistic and something I think a lot of people could relate to. For me, I have a condition that makes me struggle a LOT with motor skills. I have VERY little to no hand eye coordination too. And it’s not something that practice/time can improve. Before I knew I had this condition, I was very into sports as a kid and I tried and tried but failed at almost all of them. I was devastated. Now I’ve found other things I love that I’m good at. Mike’s story is one we can all take from: sometimes our dreams don’t exactly work out so we might have to make accommodations for our strengths and weaknesses.
Other lesson i loved about this movie and has to do with the character of Don, is *It's alright to pursue your dream later in life/is never too late to pursue your dream*
In the original Mike says to Sully something like "You've been jealous of my looks since 3rd grade", but they 1st meet at college. But they actually originally planned to open this movie on Mike & Sully being rivals when they were kids and then 1 of them moved away, and meet again back at College. They cut this because they either felt like it would slow down the movie or it just didn't fit into the movie. There is a rough draft of it on the extras of Disney+
If you’re doing Pixar movies, you guys should absolutely watch A Bug’s Life. It’s one of the OG’s of Pixar and I think really underrated. Honestly one of my favorite Pixar movies ever, plus it was back when they did the blooper reels during the credits.
I saw this right after I began my freshman year at college and the beginning scenes of him going to campus and orientation and meeting roommates were so fun for me to relate to. College is a whirlwind!
Honestly, the lesson in this movie is amazing. Sometimes no matter how hard you work, and how much you want something, sometimes there are factors that make it to where you’ll never achieve your dream.
Such an important but overlooked lesson. Most people are told to follow their dreams, or if they work hard they can succeed, but that is not always the case and this movie showed that in a non-depressing way.
@@jaimicottrill2831 But this movie showed that if they work hard they can get what they want - and they did, they just had to start on a lower rung. Maybe the road for them was a little longer, but the destination remained the same. And at the end, they also chose integrity over cheating to achieve their dreams.
8:19 Professor Knight is voiced by Alfred Molina.(Doc Ock) 13:41 I appreciate that ROR does take good grades seriously and it's not just fun and games with them.
It's a 4.5 for me! A great example of how to deliver a prequel that calls back to the original film but also adds new things in too. The scripts are insanely good as well. One of the absolute best callbacks for me is, in this film, is when Dean Hardscrabble is talking to Sully before kicking him out of the program; *HARDSCRABBLE* I wasn’t finished. *SULLEY* I don’t need to know any of that stuff to scare. *HARDSCRABBLE* That "stuff" would have informed you that this particular child is afraid of snakes. So a roar wouldn’t make him scream, it would make him cry... In the original you actually see it happen at the scare simulator when Waternoose pressures Sulley to perform to the new recruits, and makes Boo (scared of reptile looking monsters like Randall) cry... *SULLIVAN* RAAAAHHHRRRR. ! ! ! And a mighty roar it is. The Animatronic Kid SCREAMS. Boo's face WIDENS IN FEAR. The recruits are impressed. *WATERNOOSE* Well done! Well done, James. Terrified, Boo runs to hide. Sullivan sees her go. *SULLIVAN* Boo? Sullivan finds Boo, hiding in the shadows *CRYING*
I love that Mason Quinn is covering Mike Wazowski on the tv behind him just like how he’s always getting covered up. Even on the dvd release of the original they purposefully had retail stores placing price stickers right over Mike’s face 😂
For me this one really hit home. Seeing the Dean being so hard on Mike saying he can’t do it and he isn’t enough. Cause I played baseball all my life and was always told I won’t make it and can’t play with the best. But I had to be like Mike and out work the best everyday. I was fortunate that I got to play baseball as a pitcher in college and even threw a no hitter.
I knew you guys were going to love the Animal House and Revenge of the Nerds and all the old school references. I loved that PIXAR expelled Mike and Sully and made them go a different way. It is so realistic.
Unpopular opinion: I like in group reactions when somebody’s seen what they’re reacting to. It adds to the fun of not only a first time, but watching friends enjoy other friends’ first time experiencing something, something so wholesome about it
This is one of my favorite movies, but I think I appreciate it more after having gone through college. However my favorite part of the movie was the music, the jazz theme they gave it was amazing
It has one of the best lessons, usually neglected in other media, for kids and young adults. No matter how hard you try, sometimes you have to shift your dream into reality, modifying it so you can do it realistically. It helped me to hear it's ok to have that happen, I had to learn that early on too. Great lesson.
I love that Morgan & Morgan skit more & more everytime i see it 😁❤️ "we scare because we care" 😆 loved your reactions to 'oozma brotherhood' at 18:35 & Wazowski dreaming at 18:52 😄 & I HIGHLY recommend anyone watching to join Patreon/YT membership to see Quinn & Answer's dancing to the party scene in full reaction hehe 😊❤ a good, wholesome movie full of laughs & nice message of always believe in yourself & never give up & agree Quinn, i enjoyed this story more & it exceeded my expectations too, nice ending of seeing Wazowski & Sulley work their way up & how they become what they are in first movie.
The jump in realism when they go into our world is staggering. The darkness... dust in the flashlights. The entire feel is suddenly very much Camp Crystal Lake and the Voorhees. An extremely fun film that manages to take the characters back to before we met them and leave them almost there... amd give us so much new stuff to learn and work with.
The thing I love is that Mike being the comedic relief since in the first movie. Instead of being the scarier he dreamed of he later becomes a monster “comedian” in the future to get children laughter.
I think too many (well intentioned) films set kids up for disappointment by telling them "if you believe in yourself and try really hard you can do *anything* " the reality is, sometimes there's going to be some things you *can't* do, even though you did your very best. I love that monsters inc gives kids (and adults) a reassuring pat on the back and says sometimes you have to go a different route to get what you want, and sometimes your dreams might have to change a bit, but you can still do great things.
what i love most about this prequel is the fact that you could genuinely watch this first and Monsters Inc after and still get an enjoyable story. it works both ways.
One thing that the prequel needed to do is incorporate a scene where Mike and Sully met in 4th grade. The first movie Mike says that Sully has been jealous of Mike's good looks since the 4th grade.
Mhm Originally the filmmakers would include a scene of Mike and Sully being bitter childhood rivals until one of them moved away, then would meet again in MU. They decided not to include it later on since it wouldn’t really add anything to the film or their relationship. That line was retconned and I guess you can take it as an exaggerated joke, or just forget that line exists like 90% of people did xP
This is one of my favorite movies. I love to see the development as friends between sully and mike. Mike wazowski is my spirit animal. And I love that they did not resolve the movie at the end the way you expect. They show that sometimes things don’t work out. And you have to claw your way to the top. A wonderful message for people.
This is genuinely an excellent prequel. It’s clearly made lovingly and actually expands on the characters and world which is what a good prequel or sequel should do.
This is such a good prequel and a perfect example and what a prequel is While it would be a good movie on its own, to watch first, it's even more special when you know the first movie and the characters they become.
I actually encourage people to watch this one first, since, let's be honest, already knowing the revelation at the end of "Monsters, Inc." kind of undermines the main plot in this one, I feel.
I love that this movie gives hope to people that if you are not educated maybe because you are not "smart" ou maybe you cant afford, you can still work hard and be successful.
Little fun fact for all the soccer/football enthusiasts in this fandom: Manuel Neuer (goalkeeper for Bayern München and German NT) is the voice of Frank McCay (4:25) in the German version of Monsters University, lol.
Can I just say… while I’ve been a follower for a few years now, you guys have given me a sense of comfort this year. Being in nursing school I am stressed and burnt out most of the time, but when I hear “somebody call the doctor!” I know it’s time to relax and laugh a little😊 thank you ❤
I actually prefer Monsters University over the original. I think it's mostly due to the the message that you discussed brilliantly at the end. I'm so glad you all enjoyed this one, as it is a bit underrated by people. I think so many films would have the underdogs win and that's the end. It's very poignant, very mature and so well handled. The lakeside scene hits deep every time for me: "I did everything right. I wanted it more than anyone. And I thought, I thought if I wanted it enough, I could show everybody that... That Mike Wazowski is something special, and I’m just...not." I think this film perfectly frames it around Mike's arc, a great way to explore his character that in the original didn't get as much development. As Sully puts it, he isn't scary, but he is fearless. Plus we get a solid arc for Sully. He's naturally talented, but he relies on that too much, this film really humbles him and makes him into who he is in the original film. I also love how earlier Johnny Worthington jokes that they might work in the mail room, undermining it as a job. But that's how Mike & Sully work their way up, and more importantly they enjoy working together, it's not a failure, it's a beginning. As someone who struggled at uni, especially during covid-19, I love that this film shows that there are always other avenues open to you, even if higher education doesn't work out for you. (luckily I did graduate, but the point stands).
Something I really love about this movie is how it gives a broader context to Mike and Sully's discussion after they're vanished and why Mike was so adamant on returning to their old life. Sully was a natural who, with minimal effort, could achieve great things and judging from how he was when entering college, had most things given to him. Mike, on the contrary, had to always give his 100% on everything and even then it was never guaranteed to work out, yet he still tried. When Sully says "None of that matters," yeah, I can see why Mike would feel betrayed. All his hard work from start to finish, from getting expelled to actually achieving a good job, stable income and a girlfriend, doesn't matter, because Sully, someone who doesn't understand his personal struggle, can just pursue this new thing without worrying about losing what they had.
I love monsters university! I was a kid when the first one came out and with this one, i was entering my freshman year of college so in a way, it felt like i grew up with the movies
It took me three years after this movie came out to finally see it and once I did, it is by far my favorite Pixar I love monsters University. I have a shirt I have a hat. I have a notepad. I have a Tumblr. I’m with monsters University monsters Inc. in general, but monsters University is my all-time favorite.
heck we love ya bad medicine ..we on a long flight atm so much appriciated now more than usual ...best reaction channel hope yall are doing and feeling well
They could've threw this movie together and it still wouldn've been a success. But I'm so glad they put their hearts and souls into it. I thought this was gonna be just a money grab being a prequel and all but this became an instant classic. This actually make me want a new franchise with the older Mike and Sully.
Man the only thing I ever got whenever I over preformed on a job was extra work while every one else slacked off and got promoted. Because most companies don't want to promote the people that are actually doing the work because then nothing get done. Especially if people willing to put in the back work without having to be paid more.
This movie had no right being this good especially when everyone expected it to be a cheap nostalgia cash grab and it turned out to be a fun time and an absolute hit! We definitely need a reaction to the Toy Story franchise and then the Cars Trilogy next! You guys will definitely enjoy both 👍👌😂🔥💯💯
Monsters University is absolutely better than the first and the first is great!! One of the great things about these films is although MU is a prequel, you can totally watch it first and it leads perfectly into MI.
I love how the lesson grew with the fans. MU fans are probably a bit older than MI fans, especially if you were a kid when you first saw MI. And I agree that “sometimes just wishing for what you want isn’t enough” might be a bit hard for a kids lesson but for a young adult trying to find their career, seeing that even if you work hard, you might not get the role as well, that’s a brutal but true lesson for adults. But you can find another job in the same field you want that better suits you. Mike still worked hard and worked his way up, but he still isn’t the main scarer. He’s Sully’s partner and Sully is the main scarer. He’s the helper/technician but he strives there and can help sully where sully lacks as well.
Oak saying “I’m going to act like I’m not super disappointed right now” was the funniest damn thing I’ve heard and I don’t know why 😂 I get it the Animal House thing it’s just the way he said it 😅 Loved the acting for the sponsor as well, you guys keep inclining up on this platform hill and I’m just glad to be around for it 🤘🏻
Glad to hear others like this movie. Aside the Toy Story sequels (minus 4) Monsters University has got to be the best sequel they’ve ever made. I really don’t get why people didn’t like this movie. I thought it was so hilarious throughout the whole movie and was pretty clever with how OK was able to use their quirks to their advantage to win the Scare Games, not relying on scary physiques like ROR. But yes, the one of the best parts of the movie is the message of accepting disappointment. I feel too many kids movies have the whole “nothing is impossible, you can do anything you set your mind to!” which is a great and inspiring message for really anyone, not just kids. But not a lot of kids movies go into accepting disappointment or learning to accept another dream instead. Mike doesn’t become bitter and jealous, instead he finds fulfillment knowing he has friends who knows what he’s capable of and can use his talents to help Sully become a better scarer. Also I do find the mailroom scene kinda relatable for a lot of people, they have to start at an entry level job and earn their way to the job they want, and they enjoy all the jobs they climb through to get to their endpoint too! So yeah, I never got why fans didn’t like this movie, and I’d argue its better than the original, despite there’s no Boo unfortunately
The "Armageddon walk out" is actually from another movie called "The Right Stuff". That's why the NASA guy says "talk about the WRONG stuff!!" when the crew walks in like that. You should check out The Right Stuff! It's an 80's movie with a great cast!

I love that monsters inc gives kids (and adults) a reassuring pat on the back and says sometimes you have to go a different route to get what you want, and sometimes your dreams might have to change a bit, but you can still do great things.
The first one was a classic, but I think I like this one the most! 🔥
THE OAK is looking lean and shredded af!
I like how in the background mike wazowski’s face is being covered just like in the movies
I just love the design of Johnny's roar! It's so well put together
This movie came out when I first went to college. It def hit the feels. I love this one so much more than the first.
what i love most about this prequel is the fact that you could genuinely watch this first and Monsters Inc after and still get an enjoyable story. it works both ways.
One thing that the prequel needed to do is incorporate a scene where Mike and Sully met in 4th grade. The first movie Mike says that Sully has been jealous of Mike's good looks since the 4th grade.
I think someone who worked on the movie explained that it could've been a joke, like an exaggeration of how long they'd known each other
@mels607 Doubt, isn't first time the writing team at Pixar forgot about previous film occurrences and themes.
This is such a good prequel and a perfect example and what a prequel is
While it would be a good movie on its own, to watch first, it's even more special when you know the first movie and the characters they become.
I asked for this and you guys delivered. Can't wait to watch the whole thing
I actually encourage people to watch this one first, since, let's be honest, already knowing the revelation at the end of "Monsters, Inc." kind of undermines the main plot in this one, I feel.
30:50 Even as a grown up m, if I see that monster under my bed I would have a heart attack 😅😂
Saw this one when it came out, went to a drive in theater. Happy to share a similar name to a fun character in this movie 😂
The stuff with Randall could have been more delved into, but I still really enjoy this film
I love that this movie gives hope to people that if you are not educated maybe because you are not "smart" ou maybe you cant afford, you can still work hard and be successful.
I'm in love with the sponsor video. Dramatized and everything, it's wonderful.😂😂😂
I was happy with Monsters university BECAUSE it was so different then the first one. Everything about it was different in a good way
I love the message more than anything, touches my heart everytime
Little fun fact for all the soccer/football enthusiasts in this fandom: Manuel Neuer (goalkeeper for Bayern München and German NT) is the voice of Frank McCay (4:25) in the German version of Monsters University, lol.
I loved the first one, and this 2nd one blew me away! Both are wonderful 💜💜💜 Great reaction, guys!
Can I just say… while I’ve been a follower for a few years now, you guys have given me a sense of comfort this year. Being in nursing school I am stressed and burnt out most of the time, but when I hear “somebody call the doctor!” I know it’s time to relax and laugh a little😊 thank you ❤
I always love The Oak's insights, it adds so much to the reaction:)
I feel like waiting for this movie again but the wait is for your reaction!
This movie is EPIC! The soundtrack is neat!
Idk why there's so much negligence towards this movie, i think it's superbly written
I've been waiting for this one. Super exited to see what you all think of it!
The lakeside scene hits deep every time for me:
"I did everything right. I wanted it more than anyone. And I thought, I thought if I wanted it enough, I could show everybody that... That Mike Wazowski is something special, and I’m just...not."
I think this film perfectly frames it around Mike's arc, a great way to explore his character that in the original didn't get as much development.
32:21 the look The Answer gave to the camera hahahah
I absolutely loved Monsters University. More than Monsters Inc. tbh. Great reaction guys.
I just had an awful day and i needed something lighthearted to watch so this update was a wonderful gift, thank you guys !!
14:37 haha Answers face, even though he saw it, still was very inmersed in it.
Right here after the Live Stream @Badd Medicine thank you for the editing and I’m so happy y’all reacted to these movies they’re my childhood! ❤❤
1:32 it’s too early for these shenanigans guys😂😭 Edit: Bob had it coming..I am Bob and Bob is me, immediate electrocution 💀
Still one of my favorite movies. These movies have so much heart.
This is one of my favorite, favorite Pixar films. This movie is so underrated.
heck we love ya bad medicine ..we on a long flight atm so much appriciated now more than usual ...best reaction channel hope yall are doing and feeling well
One of my favourite pixar movies. Deals with an important subject for kids. Dreams
It IS Helen Mirren! She’s so delightful
Great commercial!! NAILED IT
32:20 LOL I see you, Answer... It's ok. I prewatched, too.
You guys will definitely enjoy both 👍👌😂🔥💯💯
This might be the best prequel ever, to the point I can’t decide which movie I like more, the og one or the prequel. It’s just that good
Monsters University is absolutely better than the first and the first is great!! One of the great things about these films is although MU is a prequel, you can totally watch it first and it leads perfectly into MI.
Oak you're looking super good and HEALTHY lately. You seem to feel healthier and happier as well.
Man I just love this movie so much! Ngl it's become such a comfort movie since being in college lol!
This came out when my son was a toddler, we used to always say "oops stop right there!" all the time 😂
Oak saying “I’m going to act like I’m not super disappointed right now” was the funniest damn thing I’ve heard and I don’t know why 😂 I get it the Animal House thing it’s just the way he said it 😅
Loved the acting for the sponsor as well, you guys keep inclining up on this platform hill and I’m just glad to be around for it 🤘🏻
39:00 I can tell what they were expecting. It would've been funny if his face had somehow been covered again.
Loved hearing all the lessons & advice you guys gave. Thank youuu 💗
Also I agree, I loved this movie more than the first!
Dean Hardscrabble is Helen Mirren
Mason's: 'i'M cOunTinG oN yA' had me rolling.
The "Armageddon walk out" is actually from another movie called "The Right Stuff". That's why the NASA guy says "talk about the WRONG stuff!!" when the crew walks in like that. You should check out The Right Stuff! It's an 80's movie with a great cast!
2:57 to skip the ad read
Ah the stimulator😂
Been waiting for this! :D
No Boo sadly but this sequel has a lot more depth than the first one and fleshed out the characters well. Loved it!
