A Rodecaster Pro II. I use it regularly but I kinda feel like it's overkill for in-home recording which is largely what I do. Not a mistake per se, but I think I could've been happy with something smaller and less expensive...
I obsessed over the DJI Mavic 3 Classic versus the Mavic 3 Pro, for at least 6 months. I was stubborn about getting the Pro because I would be forced to get another DJI RC which I didn't need. I could get the Classic as a standalone drone, not so with the Pro. I already had a compatible DJI RC from my DJI Mini 3 Pro that I could use with the Classic. I fussed long enough that the price of the Classic dropped by 21% ($400 CAD), and so $800 CAD saved by not also having another $400 RC forced on me.
Not me watching this whole video even though I just bought the RODE Wireless ME like 2 months ago 😂 absolutely agree with the comment about the logo tho, it’s so obnoxious… I often wear the mic backwards to hide the logo, it’s such a pain. I love how small this one you got is!!
haha I was SO CLOSE to getting the Wireless ME based on your recommendation! I really hope this starts a wave of making these a LITTLE more inconspicuous. That being said, I've heard concern that the smaller these are with smaller batteries, the more likely they are to go caput earlier. But we shall see!!

just the fact that you're the only reviewer i saw (and i watched over like 30 reviews lol) trying to put the necklace under the shirt allowed me to finallyyyy decide to go for this mic. Thanks to you I'm sure i can hide it fairly easily on like documentary style shooting and still have very usable audio. THANKS so much for that

Aw welcome aboard!! Appreciate it, and hope you enjoy the mic! Fun fact, been using it almost every other day since this video, and just charged it for the first time last night!
Yayy I’m so glad!! It’s been over a week that I’ve had it now and I am in LOVE. I’m so much more likely to shoot on the fly, I couldn’t recommend it MORE!
Loved the video. Listening to you express your struggles with G.A.S. and the “mental gymnastics “ of making a purchase really made me feel like you were reading my mind. So nice to know I’m not the only one. Keep making that solid content!! 💯
Literally got me to subscribe due to the amount of “that’s fkn me!” moments when you were talking about the GAS and hyperfixation. I’ve got so much gear that was gonna “change the way I create” that are just now gathering dust. 😅😅 Glad I came across your channel. Definitely looking forward to following your journey. 🖤🖤🤘🏽
Hello!!! I'm so glad this resonated--I was like there is no way I can be alone in this. 😂 We've got this though--one step at a time, we'll unpack our GAS 😂
11:45 But the set has two microphones, both super small.. I connect one to the reciever at my main camera, and the other one I connect to my B-Roll camera / smartphone.. So I always have two sound sources that sound exactly the same, so I even can switch around if one should have a hiccup or whatever.. If it is really concering to you, there is the Hollyland Lark Max, not so much more expensive, yet still cheaper than the ones where you pay for the brand name
Your audio sounds fantastic. It was really interesting that other creators who used the noise cancelling sounded hideous. You sound fine. Best of luck on your venture as a creator.📸🌞
I love your vibe! I, too, am a victim of getting one of those cheapie Amazon wireless mics. They're great in a SERIOUS pinch, but my dear god they're not good overall lol. Thank you for this great review!
Thanks for sharing your G.A.S. story - I struggle with that too - fixating on a piece of gear thinking it will make me happy. Nice audio is very nice though haha.
I absolutely need this in my life. It’s on my UA-cam gear wish list. $180 is not bad to get the combo option. And omg the annoyance of the removal for play back. Not having to do that is such a small thing, but such a big thing!
haha my people!! Removing the little dongle thing was the bane of my existence--like you say so small yet so big in the moment. 😂 And as an update a month or so later, definitely STILL LOVING THIS MIC.
This is the best review I seen on this mic and I’ve seen like 20. I’m glad you skipped all the technical details as what matters most is how it performs in day to day usage or how it changes the workflow. I’m now convinced I need to get it lol so thank you!

OMG! I feel so seen! Lol yes, this is me 100% for all of my tech/equipment purchases. I especially sprial when I've bought new equipment for myself because I'm as a yoga and Pilates teacher, this is not my area my area of expertise. I lamented for about 6 months before I finally upgraded my old Saramonic with the DJI last fall lol I almost bought the ankerwork wireless mic because it also came in purple! I went with the DJI because it was the smallest and least brand in your face of the big brands, but yours is TINY! This was such a cute video!
Ahh I’ve found my people!! 😂😭 down to the desire for Purple tech-the Anker one also piqued my attention but the size along with the logo had me a bit like 🤔. It really is such a roller coaster, The DJI is such a solid choice tho-I see it everywhere!

I bought a set to test out for podcasting. But unfortunately I feel, although they sound quite good, it's not enough to be able to use them for that purpose. For vlogging, or upgrading your Zoom calls audio, they're amazing.
My people!! Oh NOO that's brutal that it was a pricey mic--that's the whole other side of the convo, even if we have the 'good gear' it can STILL go wrong. 😭
“Pitching will humble you” GIRL felt 😭 I know it will come to you soon because your content and quality are great! Mic comments: Omg it still sounds so good even in the shirt! Idk if you edited out the movement but I didn’t even hear you moving the necklace. You looked so refreshed shooting outside, so I say if you enjoy it then try it out 🫶🏽
ahh thank you!! I find pitching is REALLY hit or miss--but when in hits--PHEW does it hit. Ooh I think I edited out one ruffle, that was me being really brutal with it haha but otherwise no noise--was super impressed! Here's to more outdoors content! It'll force me to breathe more fresh air I think. 😂
Awesome review! I do the exact same thing. I have spent hours watching reviews on this microphone, the Rode wireless micro, and the DJI mic 2. I have the DJI Action 4 so the DJI mic would be a great match, but the audio quality isn't good with the transmitter connected to the phone via bluetooth. It would sound good with the receiver inserted in the phone, but the receiver is bigger than I would like it to be.
Great video Kaya! I usually don't buy things by impulse, although I can totally relate that when I buy, I get very anxious to receive it asap. Thanks for also sharing about your attempts to pitch companies. It's a pity you didn't get them for free (you totally deserved it based on how good your videos are). 'Cause I know this was not the goal, but it was also encouraging to me to keep pitching brands.
Thank you for watching! The post-order anxiety is real! And I'm glad that resonated and appreciate your kind words--pitching really is SUCH a long game full of a lot of rejection, but when it pays off it is SO worth it. I'm hoping to do a video about pitching soon (and doing more of it in the process).
Hollyland is a really well-respected company in the video production world, mostly in professional video shoots, broadcasting, and small to larger scale productions that need wireless audio, video feeds, and comms between the crew. (For those who have never head of them.) Rode and DJI is mainly aimed and priced for consumers and internet/content people. I'm very surprised Hollyland released these at such a low price. They're clearly using their already proven expertise in the wireless world to steal some space in the youtuber/IG/tiktok/everyone's a star movement, and in my opinion improving it with this low profile design. The block mic trend was and is so obnoxious and unsightly. This small, discrete transmitter design is much better.
Great video! I just ordered this mic as I’ve been using the ol’ $20 Amazon cheapie for the last year. I’m hoping it’s an improvement! It sounds good on all of the videos I’ve watched. Oh, and yes, GAS is a real problem in my hobby. I just made it 5 months without buying anything Astro related! Baby steps! 😅
LOVED THIS! totally relate to everything you said about research spirals and trying to work out if I really need something or not. It's hard for me to spend money so I research A LOT before purchasing anything. I think in this case with the mic I definitely do need one as I'm editing a video now that I filmed using the camera's internal mic and it sounds pretty terrible, even with adobe audio enhancer!! Anyway, I've been going back and forth between a bunch of different mics and I'm seriously considering this M2 one after watching your video!
You got this!! It really is so hard to pull the trigger on a financial decision. I definitely recommend the M2 though--it's been MONTHS and it's the one purchase I've made that has truly without a doubt made me create MORE.
Haha, your whole introduction about GAS is so recognisable! I heard the Hollyland m2 gives HIFI quality sound. Is this true? Does it give a much better sound than the microphone of your telephone?
Yess--so I don't know much about HiFi myself, but their website says it is--and I honestly think the audio is remarkable. I've been getting a lot of compliments in recent videos--I use it exclusively now! WAYYYYY better than my phone.
I don't think you'll regret it if you go for this one, it's STILL the best purchase I've made. This one was shot on the canon RP I think with the 35 mm lens! My more recent stuff is on the Nikon Zf
The M2 is definitely a great little thing, but if the area is windy you will *definitely* hear it, with or without noise cancelling. I'm not sure twirling around will cover the same scenario lol. The only other con I'd say is not being able to split the audio when using two mics through USB-C, as you will end up with a 'merged' audio stereo track. Although you can circumvent this issue by using the TRS cable or TRS -> USB-C cable.
hahaha you are right in that twirling probably doesn't do it justice 😂 Oh that is very true about the splitting--I don't really have that use case for mobile (so far), so it hasn't come up, but that's smart about the TRS to USB-C!
Oooh the lapel one is definitely a good one and it’s SO CHEAP! It’s the AGPTEK mic, it’s weird tho it only seems to be on Amazon Canada? (An affiliate link) amzn.to/4bFZU9D Also it’s funny because when I watch this video back I am like oooh yeah the noise cancelling definitely could come in handy!
Oh thank you!! I've got the link in my description--it's the Canon RP in this one with the 35mm lens. My newer videos have been shot on the Nikon Zf with a 40mm (full disclosure camera was gifted by Nikon Canada).
Great video Kaya! I've been looking at getting a wireless mic for over 12 months but haven't committed yet! I've been thinking about the DJI one but this also looks like a great option! I really enjoy your videos. I would love to learn how you script/plan your video, you talk to the camera so naturally. I feel like a robot when I talk to the camera 😂 but I guess it's just practice.
Thank you for watching!! As you can tell--I know the feeling. 😂 It's tough to commit to a purchase like that. I really do put my vote in for this mic. I've used it a BUNCH since getting it in and it's only been a week. OOh I'll definitely add that to the content list. I think it definitely comes with practice but I think the way you script can help so I'll work on putting some notes together! Thanks for being here! 💜
I LOVE that mic--I just wish I could find something like it that was not wired. It's a random amazon brand called APTEK. I can't find it on the american amazon though, just the Canadian right now.
Not me relating to the hyper focused research that last days and weeks... even worse when you're not actually yet a UA-camr... still 'thinking about it' phase *sigh*
It’s sooooo tiny!! I just got the Dji mic and I love it 😭 because i can just plug it in and go. I am super grateful that my husband does all of the researching and makes the big Decisions (gear wise!) for my channel because I have no interest in that stuff 😅 I was using my phone and a cavalier mic for the first 16 videos on my channel 🤣 and not even the back camera, I was using the selfie camera cause I wanted to be able to make sure the shot was ok 🤣
Hey, if you've managed to escape Gear Acquisition Syndrome then you are winning (and I'm a bit jealous. 😂) it's been a problem for me since the get go. I think that also proves though that gear isn't everything--just gotta get out there and create!
Ooh the one I was using before? It was the agptek mic off Amazon--it doesn't seem to be on Amazon US though weirdly, but it shows up on Google at some other places!
Hi. Can you record stereo with two microphones? People say it records mono and you can't separate audio channels for two different sources. You mentioned mono and stereo mode but have you tried it? Thanks.
I've been SUPER impressed. This has been such an easy plug and play option for me, and actually has made me more likely to pull out my camera and film.
Excellent review of the same mic I use. And I too find the wind muff a pain in the arse to get on! Loved your presentation and hope to be near as good one of these days, but since I’m not young, energetic, and gorgeous like you, I’ll probably continue using my kind of boring Boomer methodology. 💜😂💜
Ooh this is a good question.. from some initial testing, when I pull out both the camera receiver and the phone receiver at the same time, it only connects to one so I don't think so.
Since you're obsessive about research, you must have thought about other wireless lavs at similar price. There are lots. What were your close alternatives? I have a Fulaim X5. Sure it's not as small as the M2 but has some extended facilities.
Oooh good question--- part of my obsessiveness is that once something really peaks my interest I get laser focus, so I can't fully remember what else I was looking at. 😂 Truly was looking at the M1 though . The design of the Fulaim looks pretty close to the Neewer--I wonder if they are manufactured at the same place?
@@CreatingwithKaya Yes I'm very happy with it. I'll probably not use the internal recording as I'm only a home user. It is very sensitive to location. 150mm in front of my mouth is definitely the best but naff for video. Under my T shirt 2nd best. A little EQ helps. The tags holding the windmuffs are very delicate and have broken off on one TX. Had to buy a 3rd party windmuff.
Girllllllllll..... You sound just like me, I have the same issue. Good to know there is a name for it and I am not alone. P.S I have the same gimbal and I don't use it sighh

Oh, and yes, GAS is a real problem in my hobby. I just made it 5 months without buying anything Astro related! Baby steps! 😅
Hahah GAS feels super unavoidable at times.. I'd love to hear what you think of the mic now that you have it in your hands!!
How’s the experience been
@@CreatingwithKaya I just made my first video with it, much better quality!
@@fejiroeforhare1482 much better than the cheap mic I was using.
LOVED THIS! totally relate to everything you said about research spirals and trying to work out if I really need something or not.
I was surprised at the audio from those little mics -really nice for your voice. Looks like a successful investment to me. Cheers.
Thank you!! I’m so happy with them!! ☺️
Thanks, lovely review!
Glad you liked it!
This was not only helpful but enjoyable to watch
I'm so glad!! That's what I was aiming for 🤞🏽🙏🏽
Haha, your whole introduction about GAS is so recognisable!
I'm currently doing this on the purchase of a half decent mic, the insta360 X4 and the DJI pocket 3. So I do understand
Awesome video I’ve been trying to decide which microphone to buy. Quick question what camera are you using to film your content? It looks fantastic.
I don't think you'll regret it if you go for this one, it's STILL the best purchase I've made. This one was shot on the canon RP I think with the 35 mm lens! My more recent stuff is on the Nikon Zf
@@CreatingwithKaya Thx u
The M2 is definitely a great little thing, but if the area is windy you will *definitely* hear it, with or without noise cancelling. I'm not sure twirling around will cover the same scenario lol.
The only other con I'd say is not being able to split the audio when using two mics through USB-C, as you will end up with a 'merged' audio stereo track. Although you can circumvent this issue by using the TRS cable or TRS -> USB-C cable.
hahaha you are right in that twirling probably doesn't do it justice 😂
Oh that is very true about the splitting--I don't really have that use case for mobile (so far), so it hasn't come up, but that's smart about the TRS to USB-C!
Great presenter! Love it!!
Thanks so much!
Great review. Thanks for the engaging information!
Glad it was helpful!
Damn u sold me on em 🤘🏽 now I know what I'm getting
Keep me posted on what you think of them!!
Picked it up with your affiliate link! Thanks for this great video
Aw no way thank you!! I hope you love it as much as I do!
the noise cancelling actually sounded good! what brand do you use for the lapel mic? that sounds nice too and i’m trying to decide which to get 😭
Oooh the lapel one is definitely a good one and it’s SO CHEAP!
It’s the AGPTEK mic, it’s weird tho it only seems to be on Amazon Canada? (An affiliate link) amzn.to/4bFZU9D
Also it’s funny because when I watch this video back I am like oooh yeah the noise cancelling definitely could come in handy!
Thank you for the review! 💪🏽 Question, what camera do you use to create? Love the outdoor shots you did
Oh thank you!! I've got the link in my description--it's the Canon RP in this one with the 35mm lens. My newer videos have been shot on the Nikon Zf with a 40mm (full disclosure camera was gifted by Nikon Canada).
I'm watching videos about the Lark M2 after buying it, while I wait it to arrive... yeah, I probably have a GAS problem too! High five 😂
Hahaha we are all in this together!! I hope you love it--a month or so in now and I'm still a fan!!
@@CreatingwithKaya ❤️
What is the lapel mic you are using, by the way? It sounds great!
Curious what's the cheap, wired lapel mic that you were using for most of the video? :o
It sounds way better than the Hollyland!
Hey I've been there!! All I can say is take the dive from thinking about it into just trying!
Great video! Curious, what was the name of the lapel mic you were using? Thanks!
Thanks.
Hello!! Yes I’ve tried it and it works great! There’s a button on the side of the transmitter to switch between mono and stereo.
@@CreatingwithKaya Thank you very very much :)
They’re so tiny! Hollylands been really killing the audio game lately
I've been SUPER impressed. This has been such an easy plug and play option for me, and actually has made me more likely to pull out my camera and film.
I feel your pain
haha why are we like this??
Out of curiosity what is the name of the wired lav mic you're using in this video?
Ooh yes it was the AGPTEK Lav mic, 27 bucks on Amazon amzn.to/44cQK1o
But I remember it wasn’t on US Amazon or something (I’m Canadian).
I like the energy of you, when I make the speed of the video 2x =)
@@stan3375 I don’t blame you, I’m a slow talker 🤣
Excellent review of the same mic I use. And I too find the wind muff a pain in the arse to get on! Loved your presentation and hope to be near as good one of these days, but since I’m not young, energetic, and gorgeous like you, I’ll probably continue using my kind of boring Boomer methodology. 💜😂💜
Appreciate your kind words!! And there is truly an audience for everyone, you got this!!
Can you use the lark m2 with the cannon and phone at the same time and mix in post?
Ooh this is a good question.. from some initial testing, when I pull out both the camera receiver and the phone receiver at the same time, it only connects to one so I don't think so.
I really like the concept of this video - thanks for sharing your thoughts
Thank you--I appreciate it!
@@CreatingwithKaya Yes. Neewer CM28, Mailada X5 and Fulaim X5 are exactly the same, rebadged and sold by others.
@@WillNewcomb ooh that makes sense! Are you enjoying it so far?
@@CreatingwithKaya Yes I'm very happy with it. I'll probably not use the internal recording as I'm only a home user. It is very sensitive to location. 150mm in front of my mouth is definitely the best but naff for video. Under my T shirt 2nd best. A little EQ helps. The tags holding the windmuffs are very delicate and have broken off on one TX. Had to buy a 3rd party windmuff.
Great video. Makes me want to buy one even thou I don't make videos:)
Thank you!! highest compliment! haha maybe it'll inspire you to start! 😂
OH EM GEEEEE... I'm glad it's not just me. I spend hours and hours watching and cmoparing.
Haha you are NOT alone 😂💜 it’s such a rabbit hole spiral 😭
Girllllllllll..... You sound just like me, I have the same issue. Good to know there is a name for it and I am not alone. P.S I have the same gimbal and I don't use it sighh
AHahah why are we like thiss?? My gimbal is all set up about to be just used as background decor at this point. 😂
@@CreatingwithKaya lol yup Props at this point
But the Hollyland Mic is life-changing and used weekly
@@BajanLifestyles yessss this is how I feel!!
First time viewer here, can someone confirm whether or not this mic changed Kaya’s life?
🤣🙏🏽 a month in and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. I’ve been using it in all my recent videos, and I actually started doing more reels over on my lifestyle IG account.
Wow just realized it’s been TWO months !

I feel seen and REPRESENTED in this gear review space. And you being outdoors doesn't really change much for me as the viewer unless its for a specific reason
Haha I'm SO glad!! and thank you for sharing!! I think the outdoors thing is really a *me* thing haha, I'm just sick of being locked inside all the time. 😂
ADHD
yeah probably. 😅
You display all the symptoms of someone with ADHD; the hyper focus while researching something that is of interest to you in that moment
I’ve yet to be diagnosed but I think this is spot on 🙊
@@CreatingwithKaya i know because I am like this too. Btw, thanks for such a detailed account of your experience, yours was the last review i watched before i pulled the trigger myself :)
