wow this is very informative. you covered everything that I want to know about Lark M2. thank you so much. this helped me deciding whether i should go about on purchasing it and i definitely will.
Received this combo kit today. I am blown away by the quality of the audio. I have a RODE wireless that’s about 4 yrs old. I can’t say that it’s better than the Lark M2. In fact, with my voice tone, I like the M2 better. Great review!
To me the Rode wireless pro sound the best followed by Lark M2. another advantage with M2, you dont need another small lavalier microphone to use with your wireless trasmitter.. so i ended buying the Lark M2. in the field work really well, and if you dont need internal recording it's a great buy
I'm just not sure to get USB c or iPhone lighting since I use both, would u say it would put too much weight pressure on the charging port if I used a mini iPhone converter adapter while mostly keeping the phone attached to the chest harness clip. thanks in advance if you see this 🙏🏻 😂
Other alternative is I will buy a rode lavalier go or something since it's around my budget but then I'm not sure if it'll sound good if I use an adapter to a microphone female from the iPhone charging port..
Nice observation of the arrow on the back of the mic, some people have complained about the size of the wind muff and for that you could easily diy a smaller stick on muff just to cover the mic portion, it's what I intend to do.
Anyone know how I would go about having 4 mics running at the same time for live streaming? I want to buy two kits but I'm new to any kind of sound recording.
Thanks a lot for this excellent review. Very useful for me as I'm just starting with this kit. You mentioned something about the frustrating fact that some can face : this was my first comment when I unpacked and it could have been enough for me to return it: I am among those with thick and rigid iPhone 14 pro cases on which the received won't stay. I searched and found a Lightning extension, 1 ft long! (on Amazon, branded AGVEE). (I would have preferred to find even shorter, but 1 ft is not too bad. I don't know if distance can make a difference, I only tested it at about 15 ft. Of course, this is good as long as it does not matter for some to have the received hanging in the air. While OK for most of my works while the phone is fixed, at least I don't need to remove the case. And, for work outside on movement which I may do just once in a while, well I've ordered a thinner case. In other words, minimizing case switch. Just wanted to complement this part of your end commentaries because there is a solution. (Many just like me, are not on the market for a brand new $1500 phone every year, this is why we use such cases :) ... Cheers,
I noticed this too! I'd say the Lark M2 was third place behind those two mics. I've listened to other reviews and favored the Rode Wireless Pro, then hearing the Max in this video, I really liked it the most.
My microphone is recognized as headphones on my iPhone 15 Pro. The microphone works, but when the USB is connected, the phone directly recognizes it as headphones. How can I fix this?
I just bought the Lark M2 usb type c but cannot get audio to record to video. The blue lights are solid, showing signal connection. Just can't get it to record audio via the M2 mics. I plugged in the case overnight directly to the back of the mac. The phone is an Android Galaxy A21 model SM-A215W. I've downloaded the LarkSound app and updated the software. Still a no go. Also want to add, that the manual says to double click the yellow button on the receiver to start recording. What happens when I do that is the lights on the transmitters and receiver turn green (off). No video ever starts or stops. Any thoughts on what be going on? I did send a inquiry to Hollyland (via amazon seller) but got no reply.
Great review brother! I already bought this but for some reason bought the video and loved the pocket 3 demo which is the camera I use as well. I didn't even think about putting this onto my Pocket 3... the DJI mic is a lot heavier when I clip it to my t-shirt, I love the way the Lark mic feels on my tshirts, they feel like nothing :)
HI, nice review! Do You have a video how to make use of two mic and the stereo mode? - will it be possible to mkae it in this setup: mic 1 & 2 with camere receiver via 3,5 jack connected to RODe go II internal recording?
is that possible if attact ssd into usb c receiver ? or the usb c is just for charging ? cause i want ssd and use mic at the same time for iphone 15 pro without using anoother adaptor. thank you.
Thanks for covering how the device only allows stereo via 3.5! This got me curious. Would using a 3.5 to usb c then allow it to work? Annoying how the device can’t support this natively with any of the receivers but that could be an option but untested. Surprisingly, hollyland does sell such a connector lol Also, can you use the camera receiver plus usbc and/or lighting receiver at the same time? Thinking more so as a way to record audio directly with another device as “back up”
To confirm, you can use the main camera receiver's USB-C output to use these mics with a USB-C phone rather than needing to get the combo kit that comes with that secondary receiver?
On both the lightning and the USB-C receiver I saw a usb-c female input… can this be used with say a Powerbank to pass power through the receiver to the device or even an external ssd to have more space while the mic receiver is plugged into the device?
I want to broadcast my fishing live from my phone. For this, I need a wireless lapel microphone. In the future, I may buy an action camera and broadcast through it. But first I need to choose a microphone. If you were in my shoes, which model would you prefer?
Well, I wish I would’ve seen this video before I purchase just the camera version Hollyland Lark M2. I thought I discovered something that nobody else knew. With the camera version they included a USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C to lightning cable. And I’m like why would they do this. So I researched online and couldn’t find nothing so I tested it out, plugging it into my android cell phone, and downloaded the app app and to my surprise the microphones worked with my cell phone. So I took the USB-C to lightning cable and plugged in the receiver to my iPhone and my wife’s iPad and it worked with it also. I was under the impression that the combo kit with the other receivers was the only way to use the microphones with cell phones or tablet. But I was fine just using it for my camera. But now if I wanted to do a little interview with my DJI Osmo pocket three, I can plug the receiver in and both of us can talk. I’m not sure if it’s stereo yet. I just picked up the microphones yesterday But I am really happy with the audio quality. I don’t like the size of the dead cat nor trying to get it on. It is a little pain in the ass. But the audio quality is really nice. Two years ago I bought the rode wireless go 2 but I only bought the one microphone with the receiver kit, and I really kick myself in the ass for not buying the full kit. So as I was debating on buying another microphone for that kit, I’ve been seeing so many great reviews about the Hollyland Lark M2. I decided to give it a try and so far very happy. Even happier, I could use it on everything that I own.. thanks for sharing. Great review.

how can you record in two channels with the cable is there's only one output cable, could you give a example?
The analog 3.5mm output has a left and right channel. In stereo mode, the transmitter signals are separated onto the L & R channels so that you can separate the stereo audio into two mono tracks after recording.

@@semiprotech thnx. I made some research and found out you must buy a splitter cable so you can have two mono. I will buy a trs to 2 xlr or to 2 P10. Thanks!
I have the Peak Design Everyday Case for iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the case is too thick to accept the USB-C receiver, which is disappointing. As a workaround, I need to remove the case each time I record, or I can attach a USB-C to USB-C cable with one end in iPhone and the other in the receiver meant for a camera.
I use Audacity to normalize the audio level and apply the limiter. First, I normalize the level to my target loudness (which is -16LUFS), then I use a limiter plugin with a maximum peak value of -2dB before exporting the audio file. When you raise the level significantly to achieve your target loudness, there are going to be some peaks that exceed 0dB causing distortion. Id be inclined to use a more traditional lav + body pack. A pack can record internally (some do) and the extra weight and cable should remind them to give them back at some point, where the M2 would be too easy to lose.. just my way of thinking..
@@kereminion6049 the combo has a camera receiver, lightning receiver for iphones, and usb c receiver. You use the camera receiver with a camera. If you plan on using the microphone with something like a phone, get the bundle so you can use the other receivers
Thanks! I have not had that issue. The magnet has been plenty strong to hold the Tx in place for me, but perhaps if you try to use it through very thick or multiple layers of clothing it could be an issue - but that would be an issue for most magnetic transmitters on the market as well. I use the clip instead of the magnet if I have a thick coat on to avoid having any issues.
Thank you for the great info.. If I may ask.. I want to use The Hollyland Lark M2 Combo version with my USB-C Ipad to record a podcast and I want to record 2 separate channels so I can control each one of them in the post production.. which adapter or converter I should use?
You can do this, but you'll have to use the camera receiver and connect the 3.5mm output to the iPad using an adapter that supports stereo input. There are a lot of 3.5mm to USB-C adapters on the market that only support a mono input, so you'll need one that specifically says it supports stereo like this one: www.amazon.com/Saramonic-SR-C2003-Type-C-Gold-Plated-Adapter/dp/B08DTP7R8M I've tested using the Lark M2 camera receiver with an adapter like this, and you can record in stereo this way. You just have to make sure your recording software is set to record in stereo as well. After recording, you can then separate the stereo file into two mono tracks so that you can edit them separately.
DJI Mic 2 doesn't need a receiver because it can connect via bluetooth, but in my opinion the bluetooth audio sounds pretty bad. The sound quality of the internal recording in the transmitter is much better than the bluetooth audio, which is fine if you don't mind syncing the audio after recording. The Lark M2 uses a tiny receiver with the iPhone and sound quality is nice. It doesn't have internal recording in the transmitter like the DJI, but for the price it's a great option if you don't need the internal recordings.

I used D-Log M, 4k/24 with a ND32 filter on. Of course the sun went behind a cloud a couple times so it got a bit too dark but in general it does come out very nice!

Thank you! I have not tried the Lark M1 myself, but I have heard audio samples and agree that the sound quality of the M2 appears to be better with more fullness.
For the majority of the video I was using the camera receiver running into a Panasonic Lumix S5II, except for the samples using the USB-C receiver into my iPhone. Both were recorded in WAV format, 24-bit depth at 48kHz and I used Audacity to normalize the level to -16LUFS in post and then re-synced to the video. Davinci Resolve then output the final audio as 320kbps AAC before UA-cam applied its compression to the upload.
Please keep all the mics at the same place and then record for a min 15-20 seconds time with the "same exact pitch and sentences". Even slight distance (in this case Left or Right) matters for such a detailed comparison. Nevertheless RODE and Hollyland Max sounds best in the current set up for sure!!!
Then you are probably not listening to it on a neutral monitoring headphones. The Lark Max and Synco have the "best sound" if by that you mean more clarity as they have more high end coming through. The Rode wireless pro sounds...quite suppressed in comparison.
I was wondering if you know this answer. I was looking at these in the camera version since I plan on using these with my DJI Osmo Action 4 camera. This bundle comes with the USB-C to USB-C cable. If I plus one end into my camera and the other end to the receiver, will these microphones work ? Might be a silly question but I was wanting clarification. Thanks.
The biggest complaint about these things is the same as complaints for any of the chintzy microphones - the build quality is amateur at best. They are not repairable and they last only as long as the battery still holds some charge, which is about 2 years. They become trash just as soon as Rode. Reviewers apparently never care about it. BTW you are their affiliate and you make money for selling this product, so it really doesn't make any difference if you got it for free or not.
Would this work for recorded Discord or Google calls? Can I set this up on my phone and use it instead of my phone mic? I’ve been looking for a USB-C microphone to use for when I’m guesting on podcasts and I am running an iPhone 15 Pro, so my old Sennheiser plug in mic just doesn’t seem to be recognized by the phone, even with a USB-C adapter.

@@semiprotech okay thanks for clarifying. I'm just struggling to get good audio when recording directly to my Macbook..
i have £10-15 and i’m looking for a mic that’s at least hearable in quality if you think you could find one then please let me know!
Lark m2 is the bomb
Can u use more than 2 mics with 1 phone?
yes.
You sold me on the lark m2
He says yes, but only if using the 3.5mm analogue output from the camera receiver
What if you wear it on necklace underneath your shirt?
Please keep all the mics at the same place and then record for a min 15-20 seconds time with the "same exact pitch and sentences". Even slight distance (in this case Left or Right) matters for such a detailed comparison. Nevertheless RODE and Hollyland Max sounds best in the current set up for sure!!!
good mic it does a great job
The Rode Wireless Pro has the best sound in my opinion, but for the price, the M2 is still my choice.
Thanks.
Yes, the USB output on the camera receiver will work when plugged into the Action 4.
@@semiprotech Thanks. I think I will be purchasing these. :)
beautiful place my friend
The biggest complaint about these things is the same as complaints for any of the chintzy microphones - the build quality is amateur at best. They are not repairable and they last only as long as the battery still holds some charge, which is about 2 years. They become trash just as soon as Rode. Reviewers apparently never care about it. BTW you are their affiliate and you make money for selling this product, so it really doesn't make any difference if you got it for free or not.
Would this work for recorded Discord or Google calls? Can I set this up on my phone and use it instead of my phone mic? I’ve been looking for a USB-C microphone to use for when I’m guesting on podcasts and I am running an iPhone 15 Pro, so my old Sennheiser plug in mic just doesn’t seem to be recognized by the phone, even with a USB-C adapter.
that Lark Max is CRISSSSSSP
In Amazon India, the combo is the cheapest one somehow. 😂
I think Hollyland Max won
the sounds is not so good, sounds just like those $30 wireless mics on Amazon
You should have stopped talking while trying to show us NR (failed because you kept loudly talking!)
Excellent review.
