- We are Trying out the Basser Baitcaster from Obalus as seen on Facebook,
Other company's like Caveel, Yeti's Shop, and Fishing Crown all carry the same reel with the same claims but for two reels at the time Obalus had the best deal,
Overall after set up the claims can be true but not out of the box,
I like the reel and will continue using it,
I was not contacted in anyway to review this reel,
I just decided to buy it and try it to see if their claims were true.

Thank you so much for your video I am 74 years old and have never used a baitcaster I have fished with spinning rods and flyrods all my life inow live in Arkansas close to lake Darnell and everybody fishes bass they give me a hard time about being a Yankee and don't know how to fish Thanks to. You we will see I just had 2 obalus reels delivered and thanks to you I now have an idea as what to do
Good Luck to you. Use the magnetic breaks until you get the hang of a baitcaster. After a while you will get it and love it. There is no age limit. I am 60 years old and most of my rods are baitcaster reels. If you have not seen them yet I did do a 5 part series on how to use your bait casters. You will crush it!

@@jonfloate3891 Yeah, I was on vacation in July for a week on the lake so I put it through its paces. I love the feel and operation and the price is right. I’m rough on my gear because I don’t always fish from the boat so I’m putting my gear in the back of my truck a lot and walking banks and bridges when I travel for work throughout the SE. great reel for the price point and operates just as good and even better than some of my pricey reels. Quick update, we have a new batch of reels and we have a US warehouse now! We will send you one so you can change it out!
I oiled the reel and it is performing great.
It is a honest review. The frogging rod and reel were flawless. If you want to send one that's up to you. I hope to see more variety of reels coming.
Overall a great video. I have a cheap bait caster and it’s driving me crazy. I may try this one. Might have been a nice thing to call the company and see how to pronounce the name.
After a year with them they are still decent. I prefer my Abugarcia bait casters but still use the Obalus when I need 8:1 speed.

I bought one of these bait casters. I just spooled my bait caster and setting up the braking system on the reel. I am adjusting the drop of my lure with the brake knob. When I get turn the knob so that bait slowly drops, I cannot engage the lock to start reeling in the line. The handle on the bait caster just turns without spooling the line. Any suggestions?
You can try turning the side of the reel and taking out the spool and adding a drop of two of oil. If it still has issues contact Obalus and I am sure they will take care of you. I have had no issues. But like anything there may be one in the bunch. If you have any problems let me know and I will see if I can get anyone to contact you and take care of you.

@@JonGunnerOutdoors I am starting to get discouraged regarding this reel. I sent an email last week and no response. Only when I was asking on their Facebook site someone responded via messenger. They asked me to send a video and was contacted maybe 3 times. They told me to send them an email with a video showing the issues. I sent the video via email and sent the message on messenger. I asked on messenger if they received the video and so far, no response. Sent a couple messages and no response. I haven't received any email from the company.

I just got mines, but it says 7. 2:1 on it. Doesn't tell if it's ultralight or anything
That you would have to contact them about. They sent me a 7:2.1 but I did not think it was released yet. I love it btw but if you wanted the 8:1 I would contact them. I have been using the 7:2.1 with chatterbaits and spinner baits.
So... what is the consensus? Considering one.

I bet it's not 8:1 . I bet it's more like 6:1. I bout one from ebay says it's a mego brand that says it's 9.1:1. Then I checked it my self and it came out to be 6:1. And even after lubing it got loose and constantly having to adjust tension and brakes to keep from back lashing. Then the magnets started falling out
I checked it and it is 8.1.

@@JonGunnerOutdoors let’s try it this way… I purchased two of these obalus reels after watching your review on them. I took one of them apart to oil it and the spool itself is chipped it has two burrs on it and one of the magnets is stuck out and will not go in, honestly it looks like it’s used. If the brakes were maxed out on it it would definitely drag on the burrs. The other reel sounds like it needs oil when cranking, so I oiled it and it still sounds terrible and the spool tension knob is cranked all the way up (maxed out) and a jig falls very easily to the ground from 3 feet up so it’s obviously not working correctly. I emailed Obalus support@obalus.com and got an email later in the day that said invalid email address.

Purchased on March 19th & received on April 14th.
Sent an email on the same day as I decided I don’t think I want to do a baitcasting reel.
Reel has never been used. I opened the box to look at it is all.
I’ve been asking for a refund and a way to ship the reel back since April 14th. I’m now many days and many emails (on my part), few on theirs. They keep writing back with the same crap about returning it, and wanting to know my reason for return, order number, pictures, etc.
All questions and hoops were jumped through and it is still unresolved. I’m beyond irritated with this company and their customer service department.
They have ALL my information, and yet I’m having to jump through hoops!
There is no phone number on their website to contact them either. It is send an email, and in 1-5 days, they may get back to you.
So if anyone wants one - I’ll sell mine & ship it to you.
I won’t do business with this company again.

Wow I ordered two of them and got them both in two weeks. Sorry to hear that. I am no way affiliated with them. I just bought them and used them for the video. Look them up on FB and see if you can contact them. Good luck and hope you get your reel.
