New expat in SG I didn't realise how efficient most services are that are often painful in other countries (public transit, getting an Employment Pass/government ID, delivery, airport security, getting a bank acct, etc.) I expected moving to another country to be challenging but SG made it so easy!
Singapore has a special place in my heart as I lived and worked there for 8years. Weather is my least favourite but everything else is just the best - the salary, taxation, standard of living, safety, FOOD, friends, public transport. Looking forward to visit my friends again.
I’ve visited Singapore a couple of times and have really enjoyed it. Even the heat & humidity - it’s so different from the UK that you just know you’ve got to do things differently. But I’m in awe of all the locals who never seem to break sweat, or at least never show it. I’m the classic pink-skinned perspiring Englishman....

thank you for the informative video. i know this is an older video but i would like to point out that using the phrasing "my english has gotten worse" when talking about adapting to another culture's dialect can sound a little rude. there are many variations of english around the world and them being different from british english doesn't make them worse, just different. i understand that you didn't mean that in a negative way, you seem like an open-minded and kind person, i just think it's worth it to be aware of the way you talk about other cultures especially when you immigrate to live in them.
Yes, humidity KILLS here! But my friend who lived overseas visited and she said that her skin was so much more supple here, so 🤷🏻♀️ wear that sunscreen and be prepared to sweat buckets, but the humidity is also better for the skin

I had the chance to visit Singapore to perform as a mermaid at ADEX in 2019. I hate cities and I hate the heat... but if there's anywhere I'd pick to live besides Michigan, it'd have to be S'pore. I don't think it's that summer clothes are not available here during the winter months, it's just that you shop at western stores who go by the seasons. Try local brands and they have weather-appropriate clothes all-year.
Local here (*just watch your mustafa video) **For cable tie on plastic bag. The reason is to prevent shoplifting. If you wish to open, you can ask the security guard to open for you (they are allowed) Mustafa is the best place to get cheap branded, household and tourist stuff. Most of the branded stuff are 10% to 20% cheaper because they stock in bulk or off-season goods. (Eg: orient watch outside cost 220. But mustafa sells at 180) Dont worry, if you are unsure if is real or not. You can always ask the staff. (Been there my whole life never got scam) Another place to shop for your household items like shampoo or bodywash will be CK departmental store. (They usually stock their stuff a lot cheaper than supermarket like ntuc)
Hello Sheng Wei yes u are so right. Honestly i love going to mustafa centre for groceries shopping but only on the WEEKDAYS 😀 cause u know on the public holidays or weekends are freaking crowded! Even my Indian ex boyfriend he is from New Delhi cannot stand going to mustafa centre on the weekends.

And yes...we Singaporeans slaughtered English mercilessly.please Do not follow us too much. We do love to hear perfect English.
My SG inlaws decided to visit Australia in the midst of winter. The children didn't shower for a week as they daren't undress.The air "bites" apparently. Priceless.

I wish for lower temperatures but not winter. Winter feels good at the start but after awhile, having to wear 3 layers each time you go out is rather troublesome. And not every country that experiences winter have awesome warm toilet seats like those in Japan. Great video as always!

Tourist that smokes... careful in singapore ... can get fined if anyhow smoke anywhere.... The main Orchard Rd Area cannot smoke already and must look for a small box on the payment.
Another awesome reason to live in Singapore. Smoking was banned in my workplace in 2015. It has been the single most beneficial improvement in my life, not having to deal with second hand smoke or smokers who wreaked of cigarette breath.

The US Gulf Coast is worse in the summer than Singapore, the same humidity however the Gulf Coast gets up to the mid 90'sF=35-36C nearly everyday in the summer, from June to September.
Shop at cotton on. It has summer clothing throughout the year. Plus it’s an Australian brand so there is definitely summer clothes from November to January.

I'm not sure but most people do choose to stay w their parents instead or at their uni's dorm. Singapore is so small and everywhere is easily accessible there's no reason to get a flat / flatmate.
I lived and worked in Singapore for 8years and yes I shared a flat with friends. I now live in Europe and yes I noticed flat sharing is still common in the city but now I chose to live in the countryside to wfh permanently and no need to share a house.

Sorry.....but this video and reasons I cannot understand. Prices are higher during public holidays. What is the problem...in Germany they are also ALWaYS higher when school holdiays are. So...no problem. Humidity - no problem for me as a nothern Germany guy (Hamburg, there it is raining a lot). For me the most difficult things were: 1.) no seasons (its always summer----after 4 years now, Im missing the winter) 2.) its always city (expect a very few regions in the north like Kranji). But it was more difficult when we were in our lockdown....now we can travel again. Also biking (roadbike) in Malaysia - no problem

Ive never been to Signapore but have a friend who went. I visited San Francisco, and for as liberal as they claim to be, I was turned off by the attitude of most people I met there. plus I am sure Singapore has much more to do..downtown San Francisco is small and reminds me of the stores in a typical mall. Singapore's combination of cultures makes it a unique place To visit.
You are right about the sun. The UV light will destroy the collagen and you skin will wrinkle. I am in Northeast USA and I can always tell the people from Southern California and Arizona. Their faces are either all red or their skin looks like baseball gloves. But then again we get Seasonal Affective Disorder and drink all winter.

I find that if you have a good level of fitness, that you cope far more easily with the humidity. That and sensible clothing.
I live in south texas and i was pretty comfortable.
I left S'pore for 7 years, returned 2 months ago, nearly died in humidity.

Is about choices, you can also rent a Hdb apartment which is cheap and with good space. You don’t need extra security for your apartment in Singapore
