I lost plenty stuff in the drink including a good pair of branch loppers - try as I might I couldn't find them - you've got no chance with a phone plus it'll be knackered anyway! :(
Rob's a hero getting in to the canal - magnet fishers seem to have a good degree of success finding things like lost phones etc, might be worth seeing if someone could try for you.

Amazon has waterproof floating phone case for marine use complete with a strap. Don’t know how good it would be for camera usage.
you could pierce the gel case and attach one of those cork balls that people put on their key rings then at least if it does go in the drink you can grab it quickly before it gets waterlogged.
That’s exactly what I’ve done
Bulky but might give me an extra 20 seconds to retrieve !!!

If you could think of a sonar or some such gizmo to find things dropped into the canaal you could make a killing. Fisherman's little sonar rig on a telescoping pole, it'd be like a metal detector.
Another big reason they'll add a lock is highway crossings. Say you had a 5 foot rise at one lock near the highway but the bridge wouldn't allow clearance under it at the existing water level. Instead of building the highway taller, they'll add another lock and you'll find something like a 1 foot rise and a 4 foot rise instead. (Never mind that the highway planner should have anticipated it in the original design... those are set and totally unchangable now.)

The mooring your are at in this video looks really picturesque. Impressive parking job. I dislike parallel parking a car, so to do it with Sloe is great. Glad you'll be so close to kiddos for several weeks. Wouldn't it have been nice if the Easter Bunny dropped cell phones? So sorry about that. Stay well and use that new phone's strap. Leigh

Some young guy in a wetsuit and an O2-cylinder could make a bomb out of recovering lost phones out of the cut. I don't bingewatch narrowboaters, but you are already the fourth within a year to have lost the phone/camera to the water. Maybe the follow on series of the Detectorists could be the Retrieverists. Mackenzie Crook in a wetsuit and goggles, hmmm ...

I’ve got a float added to my phone strap now. With all this bulk, it’s like a phone from 1994 !

Is it difficult going through locks single handed ?
Not really - it’s tough going if there’s a lot but a few is fine. Doesn’t even take much longer to be honest
UA-cam is showing this as only 15fps. It's not very smooth. Something needs a tweak methinks.

True but a go pro doesn’t replace my phone as a phone. I’m buying a second hand go pro for an extra shot
