Dispatchers, I have the utmost respect for you as a former paramedic, but if you'll tell callers immediately that help is on the way, you will eliminate the question and calm the person's nerves by a significant amount.

What a brave woman to have handled this situation so brilliantly. The comments here about the 911 operator are on point. So telling a person to lock themselves into a room is a great idea if they are the only one in the house, but really stupid with 4 sleeping children in separate rooms. Maybe they aren’t allowed to deviate from the script, but thank God this homeowner did not follow instructions. More training needed.

I recently explained this somewhere and people were both shocked and incredulous but as the son of a career capital-city police commander, I can state this emphatically: People are shocked at the attitude of the operator. The fact is many States in the USA have appalling laws regarding defending yourself *IN YOUR OWN HOME* ... The State I was raised in and spent 30+ years in not only has no Castle Doctrine nor Stand-your-Ground laws, it has a very broad "Duty to Retreat" - and over the years, Courts have expanded this greatly. There was a case my Dad explained to me that went very similar to the layout of our house at the time. Someone is trying to break in the front door, and I realize it... I have to go up the Staircase to the bedroom. I have a Duty to Retreat. I lock the door as he manages to break the front door in, and he follows up the stairs. He starts breaking into the bedroom, I have to retreat to the bathroom and lock that door. I have a Duty to Retreat. I hear him start to break into the bedroom's bathroom, and I still can't shoot him. My bathroom window offers access to the roof - I can go out the window and start yelling for help, and since it is a Townhouse community it's probable people would hear me and come help me. I believe the person who was convicted actually shot the bad guy from the bathroom. But Duty to Retreat. At "normal" free States, with Castle Doctrine & Stand your Ground, you can plant your feet and meet force with force. I think this woman on the Dispatch needs to find a new job. "Can you go do a Delta Force-style House Clearing to tell my Officers how many bad guys there are? But don't hurt them...." I mean really now.
Many calls I have heard, the victim is saying “please hurry” and the operators get irritated. That’s only normal for a person in a tense situation to say that.

Well kudos to her husband for advising her of what to do when an intruder breaks in. First and foremost, do not take that garbage advised about locking yourself in a closet while leaving your four sleeping children as vulnerable prey in their beds.
"Is there anyway you can find the other person?" Are you kidding me? First you tell her to lock herself in a room and then you tell her to go find the other guy. 911 operator is an idiot. Thank God she had a gun and knew how to use it.
Never underestimate a Mama Bear.
Lava Girl usually people overestimate a mama bear. They rarely underestimate.
She’s a real badass!
Good for you 👍
*shoots intruder*
Hello
I shot him.
This lady did a good job keeping her cool, I would be straight up crying.
A. Charles Ross AKA Phantom Lock Creates lol
I can’t believe she actually told her to lock herself in a room with her children sleeping in separate bedrooms 😳. What mother in their right mind would actually do that? That was horrible instruction from the dispatcher. He would have had ample time to murder her children before police arrived. Wow.
I can't believe the mother didn't start getting her kids altogether when she called 911.
@@RexMontis71 I know right????
She was ready to defend her family . Do you know how much more stressful it would’ve been with 4 kids who are scared as fuck screaming and crying. Hell no. She couldn’t have handled this better.
@@truthseeker6637 I understand what you’re saying about the chaos and screaming, but there is just no way I could leave my children all in different rooms, vulnerable and exposed, sleeping in their beds, while I’m locked safely in my closet not knowing what is happening to my children. I just couldn’t. I would have locked my kids in the closet instead of myself and stood guard, and the moment that intruder breached that room, would be the moment that intruder made the choice to forfeit their life.
@@blainekristin6290 right. HOWEVER- u don't want all your children hiding behind u even in a closet bc if the intruder has a gun then your children could end up being shot by bullets aimed for you. She didn't have time to go into all the bedrooms & pick up& get 4 kids out of their rooms into a closet - even if she did have time - depending the children ages - any kids under 13 are going to be not awake enough & be confused & most likely be crying , making noise "what's going on" "I'm scared" & then giving up her only advantage & exposing where she is & making the situation much more dangerous & risky for herself & children
That a girl...I can only hope if they time God forbid my wife has to make this decision to protect our kids she doesn't think twice like this lady....shoot first ask questions later. This lady was incredible under pressure bravo...she needs to go from house mom to deputy immediately
Bobby mercier I can’t get over how calm she was - nerves of steel. I’m no expert, but it seems like even if alone, hiding gives the INTRUDER the element of surprise. Seems like the mom had thought thru this scenario in her head already.
Great job protecting yourself and your children. He left you no choice.
Claim to break in to "Use phone"...yeah right
You’re absolutely right! I pray to God I never am placed in the position where I have to take a life, but once you enter my home with my children, you’ve just taken the choice out of my hands. You’ve now forced me to neutralize the threat, and it sucks that I’d have to live with that, but my children come first and foremost before anything and everyone.
Dispatchers, I have the utmost respect for you as a former paramedic, but if you'll tell callers immediately that help is on the way, you will eliminate the question and calm the person's nerves by a significant amount.
Wheres the other person? Can you go investigate real quick? Wtf
i was thinking the same thing!! what a stupid thing to ask!
right like let me answer the door and find out and ask really????
Good job, mama!! Nerves of steel!
That operator was pretty insensitive, expecting/telling a mother to lock herself in when her children could not be locked in; taking too long to get the address.. She's on the wrong job.. Kudos to the mother for keeping calm and protecting her children..
The lady said the address in the first 3 seconds of the call. It was bleeped out
So what does Beto have to say now? This woman saved her family.
Beto would never look up self defense videos on youtube.
Did she use her ak47 to fend off the 2 dudes whom she was conversing with?
Beto as a convicted house invader would be on the criminals side...
AMEN. I CAN'T STAND THAT MORON, HIM, AND THAT NANCY BITCH. Her bullshit never ends. Always grasping at straw's.
It wasn't an AK tho was it??? Dumb ass
“Don’t mess with the mother bear in her own territory.” Amazing how maternal natural instincts can kick in to defend her children. No real mother would let anything harm her kids, no measure is too drastic to ensure their safety.
Not even a 911 operator or being faced with death can deter her from doing what she needs to do. A true woman.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Why is it always the houses getting broken into with women at home. They obviously watch and wait for bf/husband's at work or gone.
The sigh of relief she had after she said “I shot him”! And her “no” when asked if she could lock herself in the room, because her kids were in separate rooms. I’m proud of this woman!
Anyway you could go look for the other person, ma'am? Lol
Nicholas Wetzel such an idiot operator
This another idiot 911 operator! I was listening to another call and there was a guy who called cause he found a woman shot in his back yard. They would ask him a question, he would ask the lady and then relay it to the opereator the operator (you could hear the lady answering the guys questions) said is she breathing? I about died....I would have been like " no her spirit is sitting next to her body and answering my questions"
I mean what in the fuck kind of operator asks you a question like that???
Whew!!! Thank God that this woman didn’t follow the dispatchers instructions!!!
I would've been cussing out that damn 911 operator...
What mother in the world would follow that dispatcher's instruction to go into her room and lock the door, and leave her children vulnerable to intruders? She did the right thing standing at the top of the stairs protecting her children!
Good job, Mom!
Protect them babies with everything you've got.
"Is he moving?"
"He might not want to"
Is he moving? He may not want to. Priceless.
I'll be damn if I lock myself in a room and leave my kids to fend for themselves. Operator clearly doesn't have kids
Police car travels 105 Feet per second. Has to travel 25,000 feet or more. 9mm round travels 1200 Fps, only has to go 25 feet. Simple math folks.
She is one strong woman!! 👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸I truly pray that in the 4 years since that happened, she got some help to get through and past that entire situation. We may know how to handle a gun, and we may know that we had no choice but to use it, but it can be very difficult to process when you’ve had to use it on someone-even if they are a POS...
The people in these comments make it seem like taking someone's life is an easy - some even said "satisfying" - choice.
What Zit Tooya Yes, but they obviously are not gun owners who take take this subject seriously. Contrary to belief, even cops don’t like to shoot people either.
@@Racingirl911 SOME cops.... you realize some bad cops kill people because they can, right?
That dispatcher needs to find another career path.
I don't understand why the cops have to be so scary when they approach the victim.
Because they’re mostly pussies that jump at their own shadows.
It’s a matter of safety... they do not know who is the victim and who the suspect is ..for all they know it could be a second suspect pretending to be on the phone with dispatch..first thing every officer is taught is to secure the crime scene before entering the home..its for the safety of everyone involved
JETHO321 I guess you would be brave to just enter a home not knowing if the actual victim is still inside armed ,and risk being shot or killing an innocent victim... way to go for your stupidity
Welding_guy If you’re terrified of heights, you wouldn’t get a job climbing cell towers now would you?
@@JETHO321 I agree this welding_guy has done all those jobs but hasn't left his moms basement. As for entering a home and not knowing if the actual victim (wtf) is still inside? Isn't that what police do? Also the crime scene is not outside, its inside. Be gone with you.
the 2nd 911 operator sounded offended when she shot the home invader.
I peeped that to.
No she didn’t
@@MEGIDIOT yeah she did.
This woman is a hero! Great job protecting her family!!!
Great job mom standing at the top of the stairs protecting your children. She did what she had to do to protect her children
I hope never to have this operator pick up the phone if I have an emergency
When seconds count the police are minutes away.
I’m so proud of this lady! They came to the wrong house. A house with a very protective , smart,, and deadly with a gun.... mother they had no chance of getting upstairs near her kids. ! ! ! Love it ! ! ! !.......
When seconds count, help is just minutes away! Imagine what would have happened to this lady and her 4 children if she had not been armed. Scary!
What a brave mother , she did exactly what she felt she needed to do .
She defended her life and family well. As for the home invaders, play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
Sorry she had to go through this but good for her.
What a brave woman to have handled this situation so brilliantly. The comments here about the 911 operator are on point. Apparently they are hiring people without common sense and telling them to read the algorithm script without thinking. So telling a person to lock themselves into a room is a great idea if they are the only one in the house, but really stupid with 4 sleeping children in separate rooms. Maybe they aren’t allowed to deviate from the script, but thank God this homeowner did not follow instructions. More training needed.
Good grief, this operator is a box of rocks!
This dispatcher tries so hard to help, but that lady with the firearm was way more keen on the situation... SAVAGE PLAYS
Thank god she’s okay
I hate it when the operator acts surprised that the caller shoots the intruders. They seem to always act like there's this imaginary escape route and that everything is okay, even though it's clearly not okay.
I can't believe she never told the dispatcher that her husband worked for the police!!!!
I train my fiance everyday for things like this, and she'll be listening to this as soon as I get home. I pray that this never has to happen, but if it does, I pray more that she handles it just like this...GREAT JOB, AND MAY GOD AND AMERICA BE WITH YOU!!!
"Where's the other person that you saw?"
"I have no idea..."
"Is there any way you can find out where they are...and shoot them, too?"
This is a good momma bear! No I won’t go lock myself in my room my kids are on other side of the house.. don’t mess with a momma bear and her cubs.. #bodytempchallange
Guns save innocent people
But they also kill innocent people too. Let’s not sell a one sided image of what they are.
@@slayerette86m understood but if you are alone and had no gun ? Single women, old people are sitting ducks criminals would but you to death.
@@worseto1 This is another reality, too, and one that I think about a lot. A person needs to have a lot of responsibility owning a gun. There are lots of sad stories of men shooting their wives/families. It's a loaded issue. I'm not anti-gun. I just get annoyed that people sell them has innocent things. There's truth to both sides of the debate.
3:40
operator: hello?
caller: Hello! :D
that was cool as hell..now that i have taken care of business how you doing? lol
That lady did a darn fine job of protecting her family. I'm sorry it came to that but she did what she had to do.
And this is why I will never give up our guns
tyrannical gov't is the real reason.. common criminals are secondary
She sure sounded calm and collected! Even after shooting the guy. Thank God she was armed and could protect her kids and herself!
Thank God for Guns!!!!
He has told you to resist not evil, for vengeance belongs to him, he is the judge. Better to fear God than man, and to suffer for doing God's will than for your own.
Michael Lynn Ridiculous religious nonsense. 🤣
History in America proves that the women in homes with no guns in them - a lot of times end up getting killed by intruders . A broom stick for defense does not work very well .
How many times she need to tell you she has children in separate rooms? Dispatcher should be fired. Pick your favorite kid lady and go lock yourself in that room is how she acting
I have 2 Glocks with (4) loaded 33 round magazines in our bedroom. The locks on our doors are to protect intruders.
Homeowner’s composure and ability to communicate is admirable.
she never told the operator she was armed, which is why she assumed she was unarmed and told her to hide.
I believe Schoolcraft Township is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I don't believe you will find more than a few homes without several weapons in the U.P. Why do you think she was so calm? She knew how to use proper gun control!
That woman is a damn Amazon Warrior Princess
Damn. Mama bear handled that like a pro. Holy shit. That operator handled that so poorly.
That woman was remarkably calm, I take my hat off to her.
Someone breaks in and dispatcher wants you to investigate ? What the heck that’s the cops job.
Obnoxiously poor job to the operator to ask her to lock herself in a room!
Put as many bullets into these criminals as you possibly can please.
Way calm. Great job.
Many calls I have heard, the victim is saying “please hurry” and the operators get irritated. That’s only normal for a person in a tense situation to say that.
No way in hell I would lock myself in a room with my kids sleeping in different bedrooms without me. I would guard the top of the stairs just like she did. You have to do what you have to do to protect your family and yourself. Thank God this Mom had a firearm to protect everyone. She did shout at the man to get out, get out and he proceeded coming up the stairs. Men can overpower a woman physically in most cases, so she had to do what she had to do to keep that from happening. You don't mess with a woman protecting her children, period!
TOO many questions distract her from what she needs to do... Protect her FAMILY! GOOD JOB MAMA!
She was alway's safe because she had a gun to protect her family with! THANK GOD and the Founding fathers for the 2nd ammendment!
Somewhere, some gun-grabbers' head exploded listening to this.
