    For those asking why the dispatcher is asking so many questions, here is why: chances are the dispatcher already notified the police. Their next step is to find out information about the crime committed in order to either 1) assess the situation (should the police use lights and sirens and how dangerous the call is) 2) if there are weapons involved and 3) get info on the assailant in order to put an APB for the description. Another reason why is to possibly calm her down by asking her minor questions (age, sex, race etc.) Also, it's best to stay on the phone in order to be up to speed in terms of what is going on at the scene. The rapist could have easily came back, therefore, police need to be aware of what they're stepping in to. If the dispatcher did this the right way, all of this would be done AFTER police are notified.

    • @tacos830
      @tacos830 7 років тому +120

      you’re right, but asking the same goddamn questions over and over has to be the most frustrating thing in the world. in other scenarios, after getting the address (in less than three repetitions) and emergency the operator will ask their description then one more question about the description (NOT repeating the same ones) and then start asking “how old are you” “do you have any family”, etc. i wanted to blow my fucking brains out hearing her ask the address for a minute and a half

    • @lornarmateo
      @lornarmateo 7 років тому +323

      It's because everything is fresh in her mind right then when everything has happened. It's also to calm her. They stay on talking to be there for the victims. To know everything so they can help and so they can be safe too as well as keep others safe in the area. Asking the same question is respectful if you truly want to know the situation then it means you care. It's to be sure and to get every detail right. It would be a disservice to the caller if you didn't keep asking and just assumed and let any details go unknown. It really was impossible for her to hear the young woman so it wasn't her fault anyway. I appreciate people having me repeat something I said multiple times rather than them pretending they heard me or them completely ignoring me or not caring to know what I said at all. Then at least they care and are trying.

      Cell phones really hinder things. People sometimes use old turned off phones or ones with canceled plans that can only call 911. I was dispatched (this was around the year 2000) to a man having a seizure. The child, I think 6 years old called 911 on a old outdated not activated phone. It was only able to call 911. The child gave the street number, but did not know the street name or city. They also were on a country road so going outside in the middle of nowhere did not help. Because of this we had 5 small towns and a big county with lost of farm land we could not find them. At some point the phone died.
      Weeks later the name who had the seizure came to my station and yelled at me, called me names for not helping and leaving his child alone with him having a seizure.
      Nothing I can do but I will never forget.

    Attempted rape, intended sexual assault and attempted murder should all carry the death sentence. Just because the victim lived doesn’t mean that victim’s life will ever be the same. It won’t. It’s horrific & PTSD plus extreme depression are unbearable. Friends play Monday morning quarterback saying “You should have done x”, only further damages the victim. Many people commit suicide because the level of violation and never feeling safe again diminishes their ability to feel happy.

      there’s still people in the comments downplaying it sadly saying she was overreacting and shit, like how can they be so insensitive??

    • @mil0_259
      @mil0_259 4 роки тому +1

      Rape in most situation is horrible, life altering and despicable, and nobody should ever down play it. The problem is, is that many people are accused of rape falsely and have there life ruined by it. Many people also say they have been raped when they have regrets and were both drunk. That isn’t rape. It’s a clear distinction people fail to make. This person was clearly raped but, everyone is innocent until proven guilty so we should listen but not necessarily take these people word as fact

    • @kl3321
      @kl3321 4 роки тому +3

      @@mil0_259 that's not relevant to what I was saying. Your reaction to someone saying "rape is bad, there's no excuse for raping someone" should not be to talk about the minority of cases which are false accusations. That's like if someone talked about how horrible child abuse was and your response was "but what about the parents who get falsely accused?"

    • @kl3321
      @kl3321 4 роки тому +2

      @@mil0_259 also, rape is horrible in EVERY situation.

    • @mil0_259
      @mil0_259 4 роки тому

      @@kl3321 it’s horrible in every situation unless it’s isn’t rape my exact point. There are a large amount of false accusations which ruin innocent people’s lives. In the real world we give people the benefit of the doubt and it is extremely naive to not understand that you are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. Rape accusations are the first to break that rule. If you are accused you life is ruined. I never said I agree with the people who say she is overreacting. I strongly disagree with that statement. I’m just stating my problem with how people handle it and how many peoples lives are ruin by SOME women who want attention or have regrets. It might be a minority but you can’t just dismiss it as it’s statistically huge and your ruining an innocent persons life in many cases
