as a locator all i can think about is just HOW many ways they could have fucked up so bad that this happened!
As a owner operator it was probably the locator who didn’t mark the gas line or didn’t mark it properly lol

They should have done a better job pot holeing and made sure they had eyes on it as they bored above or below it

Yes. Sometimes though the locators mark the wrong spots. Incompetence everywhere these days

Contractors hit a gas line... That will always do it... That's why you should have someone from the gas utility come out and mark locations and depths _before_ you start digging!

Natural gas migrates under ground following their gas service up to the house
@@TheEagleye92 meaning, if there is a breach the gas's natural tendency is to follow the empty pipe? Serious question. I'm honestly interested in how something like this happens.
@@Hey_Blinkin the gas main was hit by the contractor boring underground, if it can’t vent straight out of the ground to the free air it will travel the path of least resistance.
The gas service or any thing else that was trenched or bored to the home was the path it took. It basically followed the small void in the ground from service lines running to the house.
It followed along the outside of the service line underground up to the house
This is what I do for a living so I expect this is what happened, but I’m not the gas company or the contractor that hit the main

It can come in through the sewer, and come up through the drain thats in you basement, and that drain is usually a few feet from your furnace and water heater, any one of them tries to come on, than boom it ignites the gas filled basement. This same thing happened in another ofallon neighborhood back in february of 2021. Many say the gas traveled through the sewer, but ehy did no one eles house blow up?

It's possible. There was a house that exploded nearby me, back in Jan 2005 at about 5:30 AM. The house was only 3 miles from mine, and I heard and felt the explosion. It pushed the house next door to the exploded house, off its foundation. Both homes are gone now. The family was in the house asleep at the time of the explosion, all survived. They were tossed here and there but they DID survive.
Fire dept should call gas company in conjunction with their call. Not wait til they go out and investigate first. Just call them when u receive the call from the get-go.

This is what happens when underground locates laws are not followed. The gas get the blame for explosion? It falls back on the contractor.

@@ghalgren Why wouldn't the Fire Department clear the area. There were people in the street when the house explodes. Also, the Fire truck was parked close to the house. Why would you park it near a gas leak? Also, if you look closely, you will see that there is no driveway leading up to the house that explodes. Hmmmm...
