All 6 people who died were in that house. One of whom worked for the people's gas and his 12yr old son was in there too. My point is, whatever happened wasn't expected. He wouldn't have his son in there, if there was a strong odor of gas. Something blew that house without them having any indicators that they were in danger.

Since natural gas doesn't actually smell like anything, a chemical called mercaptan is added to help you detect a leak. Mercaptan has a very distinct and unpleasant odor that many people compare to the smell of rotten eggs.
Depend on the leak if they smell It or not, but almost always you should now adays...unfortunately it also smells like sewage...which can be confusing
Also if you ever smell fish randomly in your house it could be an electrical fire.

One of these happened in my town (Charlotte, NC) a few years ago, and natural gas was to blame. A couple came home from a trip, smelled something strange, and accidentally ignited the gas. Gas supplied from the utility should have an odor to it (methyl mercaptan), but anything leaking from a mine might be undetectable to the human nose.

Gas from a mine? That’s not where it comes from. Gas will always be from a pipeline unless your house has a backyard ontop of the natural gas drill site which it can’t as they’re considered fault/sinkhole threats and it’s illegal to be within a certain range to the actual machinery/site/direct work location as it’s a major hazard in health/safety/normal daily life
And they always pump it to smell like eggs doesn’t matter what the gas is if it’s pumped into a house and flammable it smells like eggs otherwise it’s illegal.
You’re correct about the soil tho it happens (you can think of it like those gasoline anthills you see a person pour the gas and light the match then the whole yard blows up not just the anthill people are dumb and many aren’t as careful with fires- they don’t realize the liquid gas also has gaseous flammable properties so they don’t think the area around the liquid is flammable when it actually IS. Let alone hey this is how gas escapes from ground/soil/rock/ice/water/air/etc)
This house had not only gas stoves but also had a chimney - if it wasn’t a wood fed fire it was probably a gas or electric replacement while it’s not on during the summer day during the night it maybe used if it’s cold or people are older. Gas or electric fireplaces will have sparks. - most fireplaces are on the first floor surrounded by stone in mansions tho fireplaces can be located in bedrooms or on second floor parlors/living rooms. Typically not the top floors as heat rises it’s not necessary in the attics and top floors.
There’s also automatic heaters that kick on at specific times or at specific temps if the basement has a furnace or some type of heater which uses a spark to work it can ignite the sub ground floor and yard and as the foundation is destroyed it falls down and the fire and explosion goes up and out any gas above that sub ground level also ignite.

Years ago we were w mom on way someplace in the old station wagon. Suddenly a block away a house blew up from a gas explosion. It just vaporized. That old Pontiac took the blast head on
Jumping up like a stallion rearing back as the fireball came at us. Just like in the movies.
That old car saved our lives. Bent the frame, dented metal but no kids or windows broken. It was summer and had all the windows down.
My mother, one to never waste an Emergency, yelled at us as all hell had broken lose, "this is why you wear your damn seat belt."
We had been in the road, far right lane. We landed on the sidewalk. As my older brothers tried to get the car started and on a side street, mom went to see if she could help anyone.
Long short, two people were blown to pieces, we saw a hand in the road. And a few others on the street hurt.
My mom, tough as nails, limped the station wagon to my dad's factory. She was cool as a cucumber. Dad came out and saw the beat up car, us kids still covered in soot and crap. Mom started to tell him. This is where she began to sob and hug us kids and dad. She cried and cried. I remember the guys dad worked with called their wives. The car was mangled. The company secretary took us to our grandparents as mom and dad set out to get the car fixed and give mom a break. Cool in any emergency. Fell apart once she got us safe.
The explosion took out two houses, killed two, totaled three cars on the street. Debris landed miles away.

i wonder if its 2 things combined in the same way a bomb would be. So something could detonate on a smaller scale which sets off a larger more powerful explosion. For example certain gas's need a certain air mix before it can ignite from a simple spark but without enough of a primer explosion in energy can compress the gas and set off a secondary explosion. If that happens to be in a place where the energy is trapped, say a basement. Then if the energy is sufficient something has to give. Enough pressure and the first floor would crack open like an egg releasing that energy. Ofc it could just be an explosion of gas tbh but it seems by its scale theres more variables at play here. i dont feel gas leaking through out the home would cause this, this feels like a massive build up in an area.

It makes perfect sense. What would you expect if you have a BASEMENT completely full of a Natural Gas/ air mix comprising 20 or 30,000 cubic feet❗ of such a mixture which is then ignited by some source perhaps turning a light switch on with the tiny spark in the switch causing the explosion to begin. And because the explosion is in the basement all of the force goes more or less straight up because of the walls in the basement directing the blast up. This is precisely what happens when a Powder Magazine had an Arsenal explodes. It has walls of either cement or dirt or both with the top that is designed to blow away so that the force goes up. Exactly analogous situation. I wish people who who don't really know about such things would quit seeing conspiracy theories everywhere around them. Let's face it, things happen that you don't understand; you're not expected to know EVERYTHING because you may not have any experience in this sort of thing. First thing I saw when I saw that blast and the shape of it, was "something exploded in the basement" this was before I even even read anything about there being a hot water heater in the basement. After I read that there was a heater in the basement I watched the blast in slow motion a couple times and it all makes complete sense. Even the manner in which the unburned Natural Gas in the mushroom cloud Burns itself away before it gets very far above the house. It does that because it may not have been mixed perfectly with oxygen in the basement when it exploded leaving unburned natural gas to be hurled into the air with the hot air from the blast. Once that swirling mushroom cloud of unburned gas meets the oxygen in the atmosphere as it's rising, it continues to burn until it's consumed. Again, this is exactly what I witnessed. And I pretty much came to the same conclusion as the fire investigator already has. All they are looking for now is the exact cause of the leak and where the leak came from. Things like this happen all the time all over the world. Natural gas is inherently dangerous because it's explosive but we're not going to stop using it for the purpose of heating and heating water simply because accidents happen. It's tragic when six people lose their lives but a lot more lives are lost in car accidents but nobody wants to give up their cars, me least of all.

That defective water heater could've set off something highly flammable slowly seeping into the basement over time from an old mine or gas pocket further below... Since most of those gasses are heavier than air they - just like natural gas, will stay low, close to the bottom... All it takes is an ignition source... Even a modern water heater with a sealed burner system can be defective, go critical, and then - _BOOM!_

My guess is fracking in the area led to a HUGE buildup of methane under the house. They were doing some work in the basement, opened a pocket of ventilation somehow and all that methane made contact with the pilot light of the water heater. If you watch the RING doorbell footage that would make the most sense. Any leak inside the house would have been detected by smell days/weeks ago, and would have escaped out of windows or the doors anytime they opened them to alleviate the pressure.

I agree, fracking is the most likely the cause. I feel like we should have all learned from the 2010 documentary “Gas Wars”. Honestly, if these houses were built too close to any natural gas work or mines, they need to get these people moved out of that neighborhood.

These house explosions are more common than you might believe. They have a common cause. In almost all cases they will find a damaged gas line between the gas mainline and the house. Gas slowly accumulates at a low spot in the basement, for example a sump. Gas settles. Eventually a spark of any type, furnace or water heater kick on, a circuit breaker blows, and the gas explodes.
I have seen this happen. In Westchester Md such an event destroyed more than 20 houses. One in Northern Virginia cost a family its life on the day they moved in and turned on the new water heater.
These incidents almost always trace back to crews from other companies ignoring "miss utility" rules, damaging gas lines and burying the mistake. After a few winters the damaged pipe statts leaking and the explosion becomes inevitable.

Have you noticed how many conspiracy theorists comment on things like this.? Does everything have to be some big conspiracy. I'm a chemist by training and have worked with flammable gases throughout my career both as a chemist and as a scientific glassblower. As soon as I saw the shape of the explosion flame my first thought was something in the basement exploded. Without even knowing there was a basement. So then I read and by George, a hot water heater in the basement. And of course if it's in the basement and they don't necessarily go down there very often the smell will largely be confined to the basement at least for a relatively short period of time. So the basement fills up which would be a few tens of thousands of cubic feet of gas air mixture which finds an ignition Source eventually perhaps even when somebody turned a light switch on, and boom you have a blast that is directed almost straight up shaped by the walls of the basement to go straight up and 'tamped' by the great weight of the house above it. The video of the blast looks exactly as I would imagine it would given that scenario. Other people look at it and immediately they go to "got to be something more there than they're talking about". No folks, sometimes things are exactly as expected problem is if you don't have a trained eye then you just make shit up. You apparently have enough education or job experience to understand this yourself.
