Just FYI, the words a, an and the aren't prepositions. They're articles. Examples of prepositions which wouldn't be capitalized in a paper title are to, in, for, of, and by.
Oh wow, I really learned a lot in 22 minutes!! I just can't believe why professors won't incorporate an APA class like this in college. I've been struggling a lot doing my college work and I am so grateful that I found your channel. Yeap! I am a new follower. Thank you!
I know right I am surprised that some collages don’t incorporate an APA class or help prepare the student to learn how to do an APA paper. My Introduction to Criminal Justice course wants us to do an APA paper at least 4 pages when we have never done a APA formatted paper in his class before. Videos like this are such a valuable resource when you are expected to do a different formatted paper for the first time.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was having so much anxiety trying to learn APA, but I’m already feeling so much more confident and I’m not even halfway through your video! You have an awesome personality by the way!! It’s rare that I don’t get immediately annoyed with most UA-camrs lol. 🤷🏽♀️
Thank you so much for your videos. Going back to school after 20 years is nerve wrecking. Your video is so easy to understand and super helpful! Your charisma is so calming.
This is so good to watch while reviewing your own work for the 100th time - and not remembering everything needed because you are so used to reading your own text... Thank you!
I just wanted to say thanks, and I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. I cannot tell you how often I have watched/paused/replayed your material and even taken the class provided. You are awesome; PEACE AND BLESSINGS!

Ahh thank you very much! I've been saying it wrong all along. How funny because I picked up the "prepositions shouldn't be capitalized" from the APA manual. I'm going to do some more reading!
This really helped and it took up to 4 pages in my notebook front to back of just taking notes😅 it was all worth it! Now I know how to write my paper using the APA style 😊
Are you kidding me with the hanging indent?? Whaaat?!?! Where the crap has that been for the last 10 years?? Good job, friend. Thanks for debunking part of the dreaded 'reference' page.
Chelsea, you have definitely found your calling in life. Thank you for your knowledge on research papers, but more than that, thank you for turning it from dry and boring to almost exciting. You're the best.
I'm a PhD and find this helpful with the changing rules. Thanks for sharing and keeping it simple! I see the APA 5th manual that was my writing "bible" is out.
i like to know if we use new page for each new main heading in apa format or does it has to be a continuous work? like my assignment has intro, main body, and conclusion, each with their own minimum and maximum requirements, now do i have to start each section on a new page or just continue it with headings? thanks,
I have a question for anyone, please. On page 2, after we paste the Title at the top of the page. Is an introduction supposed to be between The title and before the main heading? Also, thank you for these videos!
Hello Chelsea, thank you so much for this wonderful video you have made for the students. it has helped me learn a lot about APA format 7th edition. Briefly about myself, I am a student enrolled in an online study course from a US university and I had a lot of challenges regarding writing. I just heard the term plagiarism during my orientation week and everything sounded difficult for me. I am now confident that I may improve my academic writing skills. Thank you for your research work.
Chelsea!!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!! I just wrote a paper yesterday and I joined your live webinar, on Saturday, followed what you said and I got my mark back..... I GOT A 98%!!!! The marker said "One of the best papers I’ve had to review!"......This has never happened before in my life. I am 30 and went back to school and I was struggling. Still took me a while to write the paper, but you have literally saved me for the rest of my degree. I can't thank you enough Chelsea. Seriously from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.
Yayyyy!! So happy to read that. I love when everything clicks into place like that. I had a similar moment as a student myself when I learned a lot of what I teach now. I'll be wishing you the best of luck!
This is rubbish. What you are teaching people is how to create what is known in the industry as a dirty document - full of hard returns which is the first mistake a novice will make when building a document in Word. This mistake alone can cause all sorts of trouble later on when you send the file to your supervisor or the printers or designers (unless you save it as a non-editable pdf file).
You saved my time entirely, I bought the book and I was uninterested at all to figure it out all. You are amazing and if there were 100 starts, I could have given you!🤩🤩🙏
I just started grad school and your videos are invaluable! I have a question specific to student papers. I have to write out questions from a text book and then answer them. How do I format the questions in APA style? Thank you so much!
Hey Tommy, I've seen your feedback. And I do agree with you, the audio on the videos you've left comments was too low. This has been fixed on videos that have been made in 2022. If you're watching an older video where the audio is low, listening to it with headphones (if you're not already) can really help.
words can not express how thankful i am! i am a current studnet at a university so it has been pretty tricky when writing papers. however, your videos have been of great help!! thank you
Our Instructor gave us an APA assignment and showed us your first video in class she is a great instructor but she wants 4-5 pages in APA format. And thank you for making a more explanatory video again
You are adorable! I could watch, listen, and absorb your existing tutorial for hours! However, I do not understand why it is not formatting my paperwork in Word Perfect, for I have followed your instructions repeatedly.
I update the title so people understand the same APA rules still apply in 2023. When I don't change the title, the amount of people asking if the video is still relevant far out weigh the few who don't understand why the video is labeled 2023 but posted a few years ago 😊

Did you make this video because you knew it's getting towards the end of spring semester and people are going to need the help?
Thank you so much for your support! I really appreciate it. Honestly, I doubt your professor would be surprised. Since they switched from APA 6th-7th edition even professors are using UA-cam to learn the new formatting. So I remade this video for a few reasons - 1. I knew I could make it better because I know the common questions that are asked thanks to the other video. 2. I've had a busy month and I needed somewhat of a break so it was the perfect time to recreate a video I've already done since the information is somewhat the same :) Mutually beneficial!
@@smartstudent_official You definitely delivered on all those reasons and it was well worth your time and effort. You're going to help so many people with this. Thank you.

This is my 2nd week in my PhD program and I want to quit. I am not good at English and APA is like a new language. After turning in my first paper I saw this and I am making corrections.
Does anyone know if this is the same as the "APL" format? A class I'm taking says I need to write in APL format and I'm just going back to school, so I'm not sure what APL is?
In Google Docs, how do I delete a blank page (how do I prevent the blank pages from appearing again), how do I lock formatting on/to a specific page, how do I lock the formatting for/on the entire document, how do I select and use a font like wingdings, how do I wrap text to the cell of a table, how do I drag and re-size tables as needed without them messing up the next page?
For the hanging indent, there is an easier version. First, you highlight the references, right click, click on the word paragraph and then click on the word hanging. You don't need to mess around with the ruler or those margin arrows. I tried doing your version and it always results messing up the whole paper. By using the "highlighting and right clicking" method you avoid the mess and target only the information you need hanging. The schools don't teach your method, due to the possible mess that playing with the ruler and arrows can do to a paper. Also, highlighting and right clicking is better for those of us with track ball mouse and hand disabilities. No sliding needed.
It would be nice if you actually explained which of the 180 or so uses of the APA acronym in the first sentence, rather than assume everyone uses the same acronym for the same purpose, rule 1 of acronyms!
