I have 8 foot hold traps to manage my 100 acre place. Got a coon, a coyote, and a bobcat in a weeks time using fresh squirrel parts for bait.
You hit on all my questions!
Thank you for the guidance. Good to know I've done a few things right and to correct what I don't know or done wrong.

If you're smart you can now use the coon for bait and save the squirrels for dinner. That is providing they're truly wild and not into corn.

Just keep catching the possums. Every garden needs
      to be weeded.
Just think about all the gamebirds and nests and
      small edible game and the
      neighbor's poultry that you're
      saving.
      Coyotes aren't going anywhere
      anytime soon. There's not
      nearly enough people on board
      to control the numbers. Many
have to personally lose a pet
or some of their livestock or
      poultry before they get on
      board with predator control.
Just keep trying and don't let
      up
      Good Luck

Many of the old books I used to buy about trapping taught me that human scent around a set was a huge problem. I used to needlessly go to all these great lengths to use a ground cloth, use different gloves for different tasks, walk in from only one direction, etc. I even worried about the smell of my steel around a standing cultivator. I was kind of a stupid kid back then.

I get all my equipment from Minnesota Trapline Products online. They will be under “super stakes”. Depending on the soil density you’re trapping in, generally they only have to be driven 8-10” deep to hold. Always give them a good tug after you drive them in the ground to make sure they’re set and can’t be pulled out.

Ehh…most any wild animal will avoid human interaction if given the chance. They’re all about survival and not taking unnecessary risks. If an animal has a disease like rabies they lack the ability to reason a natural fear of humans and can attack unprovoked. There’s no assurance of not catching a domestic animal. Best thing to do is to notify the neighbors that you are trapping, make sure you have all the proper permits/licenses, check your traps earlier in the mornings, and hope for the best. Most domestic animals don’t fight the trap as hard as a wild animal and tend to not mess themselves up too bad when/if they do get caught.

@@tiffanyhansen9236 you can order traps at Minnesota Trapline Products (online). They have a very user friendly website and some starter kits that have everything you need to get going. If you live close I could definitely come help you out. Where are you located?

Certain times of the year it is legal to sell some of the animals alive, some we skin, some we use the carcass to make more bait or lure.

As much as I hate coyotes and kill everyone I get the chance. I don't think it is okay to keep them in the trap alive while you do your UA-cam video. Dispatch them quickly and humanely, in my opinion it is the right thing to do.
