Another great video and lesson. Been trying to trap for the past three years now. This year I finally think I figured it out. Was running about 50 sets on a couple thousand acres over winter break and caught about 30 dogs in two weeks. Your videos on snaring and trapping has been a huge help. Thank you.
@@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790 Question. I recently switched to just rebar stakes like you. How do you pull them? I was just grabbing a vice grip on the top and pulling them up.
I use a pick ax when I’m pulling a lot of them. If it’s just an occasional one I use my hammer. If I have one that won’t come out, I use the winch on my Ranger. They do make a stake puller, but I haven’t tried that yet
Hey Jeromy, I am so glad I have found you and your site? I just had my total knee Friday and now starts the process of rehabilitation. Then I’ll be out there with my fellow trappers! I can’t thank you enough! This sexy set of yours I know will produce some coyotes and cats for me here in Idaho. Thanks and keep them coming!
Definitely! I hope you heal fast, and can get out there. There is a lot of good sets out there, this one does work good for me just because I like to keep things super simple. Thanks for watching, I’ll have some bobcat videos coming up that has a similar set that works great. Thanks for watching
You would have a blast trapping where i am. Lots of yotes, no deer, no frozen ground, but we do have wet clay ground!!! Unfortunately no trappers. Wish i could follow someone around but your videos are teaching me a lot. Keep up the great work!
This series has been the best info! I love this set and will be trying it. I finally got snares out and we had two feet of snow and everything is under snow. Getting things reset so hopefully start catching again. Looking forward to the Bobcat series also!

Jeromy, This was a great series , our country is very simular to yours and you always give me ideas. Did catch 2 more coyotes yesterday using the snare supports , they work great. No luck with wolf's yet , they just have not been back. Thanks again
Use snares versus trap line i was taught to always make sure if it is blown out to continue to use it every time and never let the catch cereal, be the main factor in moving the traps. Now if the traps were in an area where people were causing the problem then yes, relocate the trapline! The other justification for relocating is if you want to just harvest a certain amount of animals due to population To reduce the number of issues with people only using snares because people love to steal the traps, which can lead to an expense concern where snares can be made out of anything in the environment. If this situation regarding farmer's land concerns then I can see the reason for the relocation of the traps to many different locations to reduce the landscape concerns making sure that there is no property damage then we must relocate to prevent so that the farmer wants you to come back to work and reduce his own nutrients animal control. To make sure that you continue to have a contract with the land owners. However, what traps do you use to go after the wild boar if in your area of traping have you ever had to go after them, yet? I hear that the Canadian version of The Wild Boar is coming South to the northern part of America so we are going to be faced with the same issue as the Southern United States is dealing with are you ready for this situation that is endable that the whole nation is going to deal with this, problem ( The Wild Boar) that these inactive animals occurring in our own country. Sincerely! R.S.V.
You catching them, sir. A bucket of range cubes are a must when trapping around cows if they see you they check you out and where you have been. It's just something I've learned over the years trapping cow pastures. Crowed them up at the gate with the cubes and drive on. Great video
Definitely been a great series, your hammering them coyotes. Good thing you didn't have that coyote over the shoulder when he decided to wake up. Thanks for taking us along!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate the simplicity. I have been trying baits, gland lures and long call lures in all types of sets in Nebraska but haven’t been connecting. Once the snow allows me to get in I’m going to try out your foothold and snare sets.
Thanks For doing these trapping Videos Jeromy I really appreciate it. I have learned a ton from your trapping videos. I am in Utah so I am trapping the same type of country as you are.
Yip. That’s a simple set and works. Nice to see the grand daughter on the line. I take mine with me also. And I’m planning on starting next week. I plan on trying them #2 coil springs for yotes and cats.
Didn’t know if you got my email or not. Sent u a picture of me and my grand daughter. With a couple cats from last year. Got any good dog training tips for a first year dog on the line. ?
That rebar at times looks to be short. I have a dirt hole shovel that’s about 20 years old bent in places one wack over the ear and a couple heart stomps and most of the times don’t get back up. Hahahah. But a few does what happened to you. Have a good week.
Hahahah. My oldest son Mason’s would carry a full sized shovel… one hit and they wouldn’t get back up. In the video he was talking in the background about it while I was remaking a set. Sounds like you’ve got your shovel broke in. Lol
I didn’t get your email. I’ll go check! As far as a new pup, mine listen pretty good before I take them, and I just keep an eye on them, and if they go near the trap set I just scold them. If they do it again I let them…once they’re caught in the trap I scold them, and release them. They seem to remember, and associate the smell of the bait/ lure/urine as something they’re not interested in. The dog in this video hasn’t been trapped yet. He listens very good. My other dogs only got trapped one time each, and they just kind of hang back when we’re at a set. As far as snares…. That’s another story, they just sit down and wine until I come let them out. The cable is barely tight, and it’s just a inconvenience.
Thanks for another great video. Just got into snaring. Bought 12 and caught 4 so far. As i type i have a pack in front and a pack behind me cutting up. Want to get into trapping. Was thinking of duke 550 or 650s but i see you are running 2s. What would you suggest me to start out with?
Just about every trap on the market right now is good. I use the Duke #2. I catch a lot of coyotes, and they take a beating, and continue to work year after year. The price is about as economical as I can find. It’s my favorite hands down. Nothing wrong with other traps, but I do recommend using all the same trap if you can. It helps when you are making your set. It keeps everything consistent. I could go on for days about this topic. Great Question!
It is awesome, extremely warm… it’s actually a full fur vest with a huge collar. My wife bought it years ago at a second hand store for her picture props. I seen it, and claimed it for my own. I highly recommend getting one!
So good I watched it a second time. Are you using table salt as antifreeze? I’m also curious about your dispatch method. My 7 year old thought you club them so there isn’t blood. What are your thoughts on dispatch method? Thanks for your help and for taking the time to make these videos. Education and entertainment all in one.
Oh wow! Thank you. I use “mixing salt”. It’s made for livestock, and I buy it in 50lb bags for around $10 per bag. Most feed stores carry it. It works great. I also use it for my tanning. As far as dispatch… I’ve tried everything known, and I usually use my Eastwing ax, and use the poll right between the ears. Kills them quick with no blood. I recently lost my ax, so lately I have been using a rebar trap stake to rap them on the bridge of the nose, and then break their windpipe. Thanks for watching, and interacting
Im sure we all have our favorite lure , but I agree 100 % that nothing will catch more fur in a foothold than urine and a turd ! Put the set in their face ! Good stuff !
Really enjoyed the series! On your dispatch do you rap them on the nose first, then strike them on the jugular. I used to knock um down like a fox by rapping their nose with my trowel then striking the throat but usually had to kneel on their chest to finish the job. Now I shoot them in the chest with a 22 short but that creates a messy skinning job.
I do exactly that… a rod the nose, and go for the throat. It works about 75-80% of the time…. I used to shoot mine with a .22 also. My best method was my Eastwing ax, I use the poll of the ax on the top of the head. One hit and that’s all it took. It was fast, easy, and clean when skinning them. I lost my dang ax on the trapline earlier this season, and it hasn’t turned up yet. Thanks for watching, and commenting!
