Yes, I made that mistake and now I'm struggling to get rid of the glue. :( I read that vinegar works too instead of goo gone, so EAH Cupid is now soaking in a cup of vinegar. :D Update in 2 hours.
Another method is to put the hair in hot water and after that just use normal hand soap to wash it and while it is still wet put the baby powder on and comb it thoroughly thru and gently rinse the hair with cold water and let it dry I have tried this technic and it works great and it does not dull out the hair color 😊
great video. Thanks for making a video that's not just music and that doesn't have a cringey voice talking to 3 year olds. I had to suffer through half a dozen videos to find your video.
Great methods and very helpful! Although in my experience i would never boil wash any dolls hair, as it can make the glue seepage issue sooooo much worse and actually start it for dolls that don't currently have it. With very early monster high dolls I've even seen the hair melt from boil washing without the water even being that warm... Food for thought!!
After years, I’m finally going through my childhood Barbies and I want to fix the icky hair before I pass them along to another child. This video helped me figure out what I need to do, so thanks so much!!!
Today I used the Goo Gone technique even before seeing it on a video. It just made sense to me especially after I found out the stickiness comes from the glue used on the heads. I did not soak the hair for 2 hours but I did spray it on the hair and left it on for at least a couple of minutes and thoroughly combed it in. Then I washed it out with shampoo. I didn’t think of dishwashing soap. I also sprayed the hair with dry shampoo. That helped too. Next time I might try the cleaner for wigs.
Thanks! I recently noticed that my Robecca hair is really greasy and I tried getting it out brushing the hair but I feel it made it worse, I think I’m going to try the baby powder method to solve it
Thank you, I have a collection of dolls, I got a few monster high dolls as a kid from my aunt but was never intrested in the show, since a couple months I do have a special shrine in a more central part of my room for my Ever After High dolls, I have 4 and want to expand the collection, the dolls are like over 5 years old but I've regained intrest and really wanted to fix their hair, I'll be using babypoeder because it's easiest for me thank you❤
Bought a bunch of Barbies for my kid and they all had the greasy hair syndrome. I used talcum (baby powder) to get rid of the greasiness, combed it thoroughly and washed it with cold water. It does dull the color but I rinsed it with concentrated fabric softener and washed again, looks like new and combs easy. Thanks BTW, got the powder idea from you.
Hi and thanks for the tips! I tried something today and so far it looks like it worked. I tried shampoo and conditioner and it was better, but still greasy. I boiled some water, let is sit for 5 minutes, added Dawn free and clear and did two washes. The water turned a bit dark and hope it was the buildup. For the third wash, I added a tbsp of apple cider vinegar to the water. It's good to remove buildup and I use on my own hair. Rinsed well and so far it looks great! Hair is shiny and less greasy! Will add on once it's fully dry.
Use sticker remover (the stuff that smells like gasoline) and rub it in the hair. Wash it with dish soap afterwards and you will have soft and grease free hair. Guess its the same as Goo gone. Works like a charm
Charlene Pasionek poored it in and soakded it for about a minute. Rubbed it through and then washed it out with a lot of dishwashing soap. Boilwashing actually will make the glue seapage worse btw..
Oxiclean worked wonders on my dolls hair, funny enough I used that on a rosabella and a draculaura and they were both shown in this video, but the oxiclean worked so well I recommend that method too😊
Thanks for that suggestion. I have a Barbie with which I have been dealing for months now. I finally found the Goo Gone method (on another channel) and I'm trying that now. If that doesn't work, I'll try the Oxyclean
I tried the goo gone. It worked amazing. I however did use the la’s total glue remover and didn’t have wig shampoo used conditioner instead. And washed out really nicely.
I have a funny story- I set my Kindi Kid doll, Marsha Mellow on the counter top and she fell into a fryer!! Luckily she wasn’t completely damaged, her hair is the only issue. It’s entirely greasy now. Every time I touch it, my fingers still get sticky. I have yet to try one of these methods (I’m leaning towards dish soap method & baby powder method) thanks so much for posting this, I hope it works!!
HoneyBeeHappy Me oh! I just watched it and I have some notes. As far as the furniture polish I recommend using pledge. It’s very thick and foams when you spray it. Also you have to use ALOT (like generously apply it!) and let it sit for 3-4 hrs depending how bad the glue seepage is.Then rinse it out using dish soap. Whatever you used in the video looked really watery and drippy. Furniture polish is usually my go to treatment bc it’s FAR easier to remove than goo gone in my opinion. As for the oxy clean you should use the powdered oxy and mix with warm water, work it through the doll’s head with a comb for a few minutes and then leave it to dunk for about an hr or so. If you do it that way it should also work really well :)
so I have really bad glue seepage on my gigi grant doll and so i tried the baby powder method and it worked sure. but it just made the hair super staticy so I have to use a dryer sheet on it once or twice a day. I also used it when the doll was wet and used way too much so it turned into cake but it worked in the end. I have to apply it again though which sucks.
OK so I noticed I have a lot of monster high dolls that have that same problem and I’ve noticed that when I trying to wash them and brush them out there was a lot of hair coming out I’m gonna try this method
Hey, I have that same Operetta with the same problem. I tried the method you used. It definitely got rid of the sticky feeling but it stained the parts of her head submerged in the goo gone slightly yellow and the plastic of her head is now really hard.
In my experience, it’s glue used to secure the hair that seeps through the hair roots at the base of the hair and spreads from there. Seemed to be prevalent in Mattel dolls made 2010-2015.
Boil washing and downy dunks (from your other video) are mostly used to treat dry frizzy doll hair. That’s why they didn’t work in this. Goo gone is like pretty much the only thing that works I’m told
I have the first release Rochelle Goyle just sitting in my attic because her hair is so gross and greasy I got tired of looking at her. I should clean her up so she can come out again, haha!
Hey everyone, I just tried some new methods and discovered a good alternative to Goo Gone. Here's the video link: ua-cam.com/video/6wr0-J4ZAeY/v-deo.html
so i had the greasing problem for a long time and i want to try the goo gone but the hair product discontinued since i cannot find it anywhere. Any suggestions?
Cannot tell you how many videos I’ve watched that it sounds like they are saying “glucy bitch” and not glue seepage... hahaha first time I knew what they were saying!
Well, my doll was a total loss after trying the Goo Gone method. It swelled my dolls head, and broke right off. 👀😨 well I wasn't expecting that! Obviously I had to throw her away. At least she wasn't an expensive doll. But am disappointed to say the least. The Monster High dolls must have a harder plastic. Oh well. Just if I ever try the Goo Gone again, going to only give it 5 minutes instead, and see if that helps.
That’s terrible! I haven’t had anything like that happen. But I did also start using a different technique for my dolls that didn’t have as much glue seepage as the Operetta doll in this video. ua-cam.com/video/c9-dytJE_pE/v-deo.html
once encapsulated by the powder- the oil is easier to remove- so the idea is good- also the Goo gone- is a great product- thanks I just washed one of my Barbies and was completely disappointed when I was unable to get this grease off her hair and then I search the web a nd I found you!
Please helpm Baby powder made my monster high dolls hair gorgeus, but it accidently got in her face. So now its always there, even tho I wash it iff it comes back? PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER TO ME!
You could just use dish soap and shampoo to rinse out the Goo Gone. I would also check out my more recent hair fix videos. I have a better method for using goo gone now.
I read someplace that simple cooking olive oil will work in place of googone. I tried it on two dolls last night and the stickiness is gone but their hair is stringy. I bet a shampoo will do it.
Because I am an OOAK addict, I know what the substance is. It's a poor quality glue used in certain Mattel dolls and when you remove the doll's head, you will find huge gobs of waxy sticky glue inside the head. They will continue to seep out through the hair holes in the head, so you can get a temporary fix only. I have had to reroot most of them because the seepage returns quickly. Sorry.
My darling Charming doll’s hair is all gross and sticky and stuff and I took out her hair accessories and I took out the rubber bands and stuff and it’s all gross and sticky like I said in the beginning of this comment but yeah Idk
You really shouldn't use the boil method because people who repaint dolls boil the hair so that they can easily pull it out, The heat warms up the glue and most likely furthers the glue leakage.
When your doll hair get sticky greasy frizzy and all nasty all stuff I had three dolls that it happen to them this what I did to fix you will need : baby shampoo or shampoo isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol and body cleanser this is optional what you wanna do is wet your doll hair and comb it out wash your doll hair with the shampoo the poor some of the alcohol in a bowl or cup and set your doll hair in the alcohol for 5 mins when the 5 minutes are done rinse your doll hair out and wash it again with the cleanser or shampoo let dry and there you go if doll hair is still frizzy spray doll hair with conditioner and water

My Elissabat had a similar issue, so taking my cue from your tutorial I came up with my own method, since goo gone is not available in my country. I washed her hair with anti-dandruff shampoo, then soaked the hair in isopropyl alcohol for about 20 minutes. You need to be careful not to get any alcohol on the doll's face, otherwise you'l risk stripping off the paint. Afterwards I rinsed the hair with cold water, washed with dish soap, combed with a doll hair comb under running water and let it air dry. I also though about using simple green as a replacement for goo gone but I was all out. It was a serious improvement so thanks for sharing this!
I discovered accidently the best way to get the sticky greasy feeling out: hair grease! Like petroleum based cheap hair grease (Blue Magic). My niece put some in one of my dolls I didn't like because her hair was greasy. I washed it out after she left with dish detergent and now the doll's hair is silky smooth!
I tried the powder but it didn't work. So I tried turps (mineral turpentine) and poured over the hair. Worked straight away. No more greasy hair. Washed with shampoo and conditioner afterwards.
I would NOT take the head off for the goo gone method. That's a sure-fire way to make the hair fall out! The goo gone would get into the head and dissolve all the glue keeping the hair in!
I use the Goo Gone method, but I just poor it on the dolls hair and rub it around. Maybe twice. Saves on the amount of Goo Gone you use. Then shampoo twice, the boil wash -- hot water with hair conditioner in it. Let it sit for a while then rinse in cold water. Works GREAT!
That basically how I do it too. Her hair came out fabulous! I also like the way you used those clips on the straws. I have not tried to curl hair yet, but I have a couple that need it. Thanks for the video.
If you use burts bees baby Vaseline , witch hazel , and dandruff shampoo and mix them and lets their hair soak in water after it makes it greasy and then you just use water to wash the grease out
8:13 hmmm.. would this work on Military Ken? His head is perpetually oily and he doesn't even have rooted hair. It's a shame, too, he's got the nicest smile of any Ken doll ever made, and his head is perpetually oily.
*when I saw operetta's hair after I was like, damn I need goo gone !! xD*
ᴘᴀsᴛᴇʟ ᴄʀᴇᴀᴍ lmao 😂😂😂
I tried the baby powder, and it worked so good! My doll Abby’s hair is so soft now! Thank you!
Thank you so much for trying all the techniques. This will really help us restore our original monster high's hair!!!
While your doing that I’ll be restoring my ever after high collection.
Boil washing isn't usually the best method if you go right to the dolls head because it can heat the glue up and make more leakage happen
kitty softpaws yeah that is right
I thought the same thing
it makes hair fall out too
Yes, I made that mistake and now I'm struggling to get rid of the glue. :( I read that vinegar works too instead of goo gone, so EAH Cupid is now soaking in a cup of vinegar. :D Update in 2 hours.

True but it does dull the shine out and you wanna use it on light colored doll hair only

Oh dear. I would start with soaking in warm water with Dawn dish soap.
You also could use furniture polish (if the glue seepage is mild-moderate) For SUPER SUPER bad glue seepage I would say to just stick to goo gone
I tried furniture polish in another video.
HoneyBeeHappy Me oh! I just watched it and I have some notes. As far as the furniture polish I recommend using pledge. It’s very thick and foams when you spray it. Quick question, what's the main cause behind sticky-greasy doll hair?
In my experience, it’s glue used to secure the hair that seeps through the hair roots at the base of the hair and spreads from there. Seemed to be prevalent in Mattel dolls made 2010-2015.

Can i do this on my frankie stein doll?
I used it on Monster High dolls. The baby powder and Goo Gone methods both worked.
Bro baby powder works wdym I just fixed one by doing that
can i use flour as opposed to baby powder?
Exposure to air and moisture can cause flour to go rancid and smell. They do make cornstarch baby powder now, which is talc free.
i see, thank you.
My monster high dolls hair is falling out. What do I do?
It could be the glue weakening. Don’t wash in hot water. Cold water only. No harsh chemicals. Only comb gently from ends going up.
Because I am an OOAK addict, I know what the substance is. The color of the hair has nothing to do with the greasiness. It’s glue seepage. Reroot. Sorry, there was a better answer.

I’ve been using this method that is working great!!! ua-cam.com/video/c9-dytJE_pE/v-deo.html
Oooooh yeah I didn't think bout dat
I use the Goo Gone method, but I just poor it on the dolls hair and rub it around. Maybe twice. Saves on the amount of Goo Gone you use. Then shampoo twice, the boil wash -- hot water with hair conditioner in it. Let it sit for a while then rinse in cold water. Works GREAT!
I started using a similar technique with the goo gone ua-cam.com/video/c9-dytJE_pE/v-deo.html
That basically how I do it too. Her hair came out fabulous! I also like the way you used those clips on the straws. I have not tried to curl hair yet, but I have a couple that need it. Thanks for the video.
This is going to help me so much with my Ever After High dolls :)
Omg thank you for all this help i love this channel and will continue to love this channel please keep up your amazing work your an idol.
It's a shame, too, he's got the nicest smile of any Ken doll ever made, and his head is perpetually oily.
i have monster high dolls and their hair gotten really sticky over the years
i have a spray-goo gone...wonder if i could spritz it instead of soak?
This gives me hope! I have some Barbies with gross sticky hair 😢 gonna try this next
