Its just like the batman suit leaks. People were mocking it for the padding, refering to the joke in bales batman. But after its released and everyone is in awe with the suit.
I wasn't.
I enjoyed the movie, but still not a fan of the suit.
Pattionson Batman suit is trash and he leaned way too much into being Kurt Cobain Bruce Wayne. Though as a fair trade off his Batman voice was the best I heard in live action so far.
Let's see, we got people hating on the new Superman cuz they still can't move on from Henry Cavill it seems. And next we're probably gonna have people hating on the new Supergirl because they can't move on from Melissa Benoist lol. (seriously tho, when Milly Alcock first announced for DCU Supergirl, there's some Melissa Benoist fanboys who complained why it's not Melissa coming back. I mean, i get it, but Melissa is a bit too old now, we need a younger Supergirl for James Gunn's DCU). Although the Melissa Benoist fanboy thing were still a minor problem tho, since we haven't had any first look or details at the new Supergirl yet.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I think a lot of it is from people who want either Synder’s darker take or want Cavil in the role. I thought Cavil was good casting, but suffered from bad writing, I get people liked it, I just wasn’t one of them. But I’m excited to see what David will bring to the role, and I am more hopeful for the future of DC.

Im honestly tired of realistic looking suits, most of the comic accurate suits we’ve seen from Marvel have been ok probably because the excess of content. This proves to me that comic accurate suits can work with the right budget.

First impressions matter to a lot people. Gunn had the chance to show off his vision for the suit (lighting, color grading, tone, etc.) with the first promo pic, and a lot of people walked away from it thinking he fumbled the bag. We now have set photos of the suit in its purest form, and once again people believe he fumbled. These were the 2 best chances to get people hooked and it didn't work. The suit from TASM 2 had a positive reception when it was first revealed and is still regarded as one of the best Spidey suits to hit the big screen.
As for the comparisons, while using screenshots from the films is somewhat unfair, people are still allowed to make a comparison as we too have set photos of the Cavil suits and people are already familiar with what the actual suits look like. Plus, comparing and contrasting suits allow the people making these films to learn and improve for future movies, even if the films have different tones. If learning from the past wasn't allowed, live action Batmen would probably still lack the ability to move their heads.
That's fair but some people make unfair comparrisons. They show a finished render for a film shot in a high resolution to a blurry, slightly out of focus set photo. We need to wait.
@@Lewisfilms2 Fair point, *THAT* is an unfair comparison, but as I stated before, comparing the actual practical costumes from set photos of the 2 suits should still be allowed.
Plus there have been several instances where people like what they're seeing from low quality set photos or random behind the scenes footage. Hell, the Mr Terrific suit for the same movie has gotten a fairly positive reaction.
Honestly, I preferred Gunn's first reveal to most of the set photos. The suit looks decent in those pics of him being arrested, though.
From the suits Cavill used, the Batman v Superman one was the best. But after seeing David wearing in the new photos I loved the new costume. It just screams Superman, it's a perfect mixture of classic, New 52 and Kingdom Come. People who have been complaining are just doing so because they still haven't got over Cavill being recast. But where were those people to support Black Adam? Or the rest of DCEU? As much as a lot of people online like Cavill, his Superman never got a great reception towards general audiences. Before Gunn rebooting DCEU with DCU, I wanted Cavill to Star in four Superman movies, but general audiences have grown so apathetic towards DCEU that I really doubt that Cavill starring in a new Superman movie would've worked.

As a Fan of Snyder & Cavill's Superman Myself, I do Actually look forward to James & David's New Movie. and I think the Suit does look Good. Sure, Cavill's Suit is Still MY Personal Favorite, but David's Suit looks Good too. I'd say Both are Good for Their Own Reasons
Cavill's Suit fits the World It was Made for while still Looking like a Superman Suit, and David's Suit harkens back to the More Classic Era and does a Good Job Modernizing that Old School Look.

I'm fully on board with the idea that it's unfair to judge a film based on it's unfinished product, or because you refuse to accept one thing over another (DCEU in this case). My personal concerns with the film come from just not really enjoying Gunn's work. I know that's a hot take, but it's one I'm willing to live with. Either way, I am hesitant but hopeful for this film and the DCU. My expectations aside, I really do hope this film turns out amazing.
Also glad to see this new channel up and running, Lewis. Can't wait to see your comics / CBM takes outside of just Spidey.

I didn’t like the new suit at first, but it has really grown on me, especially after the set photos showing how vibrant it is and how tangible it seems…still think the lines are unnecessary lol.

People aren't satisfied with anything. Before the DCEU ended, alot of people hated most of their movies. They hated BVS, ezra miller's flash, etc. So now after seeing all that hate on the DCEU, gunn is taking matters into his own hands, and making a fresh start on DC. It's the "fan's" fault the DCEU is getting rebooted into the DCU. So at this point, they should just stop hating on every little thing they think is wrong with it, shut up, and let james cook. It's the same thing with marvel. People are only seeing the flaws and negatives instead of appreciating the good things about movies like quantumania or the marvels. And now people are hating on the baggy material on superman's suit, the red trunks, and the bright colors???? May I remind you this is DC. A universe where superheroes were first created with colorful suits and underwear outside their costumes". To point out its flaws because you're so used to henry's superman is ridiculous. You'll get used to it eventually just like you got used to henry's superman. Besides, so many things were missing from that suit that are so important to superman, and are present in this new suit.. The brighter colors, the belt, and yes, even the red trunks. This is a different universe made by a different man. If y'all don't like it, then you can rewatch man of steel. But as much as I'm going to miss jason momoa's aquaman and zachary levi's shazam, this is what we have to live with now. But now gunn is forced to change up the suit because of all that negative backlash. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!
Gunn already wasted time and money focusing so much on Non-Superman characters in a SUPERMAN MOVIE. The JL, Maxwell Lord and Engineer are totally unnecessary in this movie.
It is not a good sign people talking about JL and ignoring the fact an actual important Superman character Kara Zor-El/Supergirl is supposed to be in the film.
It seems Gunn and DC have no faith their version of Superman will sell toys so they added some JL characters in the movie to sell toys with. Their costumes look too plastic and too toy like.
I thought this suit looks clean. I think people are hating on stuff because they've have been desensitized to bad writing and assume that films after that will be terrible
I’ve never liked comparing the suits. Each suit is for its time and of it’s time. No need to compare. We all have our memories of the first one we saw but none of them are “bad”.

Gunns Superman is inspired by All Star Superman and Superman for All Seasons that show a Superman who has more of a colourful and just overall big guy look. If you look at All Star Superman he has barely any definition so that’s the look Gunn is going for. He looks more approachable and friendly than Snyders Superman who looks very intimidating. Both are valid but are inspired by different versions of the character.

This weird in between superman franchises place we're in right now is giving me serious flashbacks to the Amazing Spider-Man suit reveal. Like the spider-man costumes I think people will look back years from now and all have an interpretation of Superman and his costume that they point to and adore (which also hopefully gets celebrated in skins for a sick Superman video game)
A lot of MCU suits look like a rough sketch of what it looks like post production. Everyone forgets the amount of Vfx that goes into these movies as well, let alone the Vfx added to the suits.

I really don't understand why people are this mad about it. Especially after seeing the on set pictures of the suit. And I disagree with people already trying to compare them. I saw someone running a poll asking "which superman being arrested scene is better" between Man of Steel and James Gunn's Superman. We haven't even seen the actual scene yet
People are mad the superhero costumes look like superhero costumes and not some high tech company made suit like they all believe superheroes wear when in actuality they made their suits at home

You don't need to see the suit in action but if you really want to go there. I looked up set photos from Man of Steel and the suit already looked better before post production. So the things people are saying about how the suit doesn't seem to fit the actor properly are entirely accurate. The suit looks more like Christopher Reeves's costume but the S symbol on his chest doesn't look right. It doesn't even really look like an S anymore. The boarder looks right but it just has a diagonal line through it, you can't even see where the top or the bottom of the S is.

No. The suits should absolutely be compared because no matter what the discourse is between Cavill and this guy's suit, they're still terrible next to Christopher Reeves suit, which is objectively the best. Superman hasn't looked good on film since the 70's.
Track record: James movie adaptions of comics vs Zack movie adaptions. I think James has made characters more recognisable from the pages than Zack has. Zack spends lots of screentime explaining why his characters have changed from what they were to what Zack wants them to be (he didn't like them the way they were, and he has said so in interviews). James spends more time revealing to an audience who they are and have always been to old and new viewers, then the events on screen change them in logical ways. As for the suit, frankly we don't know how the suit was made in universe at this point, so how can we judge? In some versions of Superman, his suit was first made by his Mother. Is the material standard Earth or composites from Krypton? Did he use standard machinery or machines from the Fortress? Is it standard durable or able to withstand Super feats of strength and endurance? All these points and more could explain why the suit looks this way.
I think of the comparison of Smallville to Zack's movies. One cannot even fly most of the time, but got the personality right. One has punch ups for 40 mins. One is a man of steel, but the other is Superman. Maybe this time around James will give us both.
TBH, I love David Corenswet's suit. It's vibrant and he's Superman has trunks which he is suppose to have. Like I love Henry Cavill as Superman, I think he's performance was very good in the DCEU, and I also liked his suit even though it's much darker and doesn't have trunks. What sickens me as that these stupid Snyder fans already complaining that Gunn's Superman movie is going to be a flop and forgetting it's currently filming at the moment. Either us fans and Snyder fans haven't even seen any footage or trailer for this film, and they just go online and hashtag stupid tweets over a suit. Everything does NOT have to be detailed.

2:03 Nothing against Lewis, but this represents my problem with the discourse around Superman media. No one was willing to judge Snyder's work for what they tried to be, and instead critcicized it for not being the DCAU or comics or Smallville. Why is it only now that fans are willing to judge things for what they're trying to be?
I don't even have anything against Gunn and I'm sure this film will be fine, but the hypocrisy of fans just gets to me.
Since this is a video about defending Gunns Superman I guess it doesn’t cover all my views on Synders Supes. I’ll probably make a video on him at somepoint down the line but just to cover all basis, I do like Cavills Superman for what it was. It had its own issues but largely I thought it was successful in the portrayal that Synder wanted to accomplish with his universe

You can take a still from Cavill's suit at any point, films or set, and it looks great because the design is great. You don't need to "See it in motion" to recognize a good design from a suit. There's a reason no one is reacting this way to Mr. Terrific, because he looks incredible

On the point of the suit, releasing the first reveal was really all on Gunn, idk why they chose such a weird shot. The suit itself, I love the colors and have come around to the logo, but still not a fan of the collar, as I think the cape tucked into the crew neck look is best for Superman. It looks a bit weird with the cape tucked into shoulder pockets.

Like how you mentioned in your video, the suits are made to fit the tone of the movies they're featured in. It's the reason why I personally don't really compare the Man Of Steel suit, or the Superman and Lois suit, to Davids Suit. The style of the movie itself is gonna be different than Man Of Steel and probably different than Superman And Lois. But just looking at designs by itself, personally, there are some things I just do not like about the suit. Mainly the front logo and the trunks. Looking at it from afar, the logo barely resembles an S. To me, it just looks like a line going across at an angle. The trunks is something I'm probably not used to but still.

The overall design is fine I guess but the quality of the execution is not looking good. It's weird because looking at James Gunn's suicide squad we saw better designs than this. Mr Fantastic looks better. but for the title character to look frumpy in his costume is just...weird.

Tbh i don't like the suit it looks lazily made, the suit from superman returns was way better even from the behind the scenes the suit was cool even the Christopher reeves one was way ahead of its time we can even go for the dean cain on i loved them even tylors suit is better than this one and its from a tv show, cavill suit followed their trajectory which is being well fitted to hug their bodied thats my only quarrel with the suit and all the other suits in the movie overall they just look lazy like from a cw show

Not liking the suit is one thing. Saying the movie will be a flop because the suit isn’t form fitting is crazy. Unfortunately we are going to have to listen to this noise for a whole year.
If anything, those hating on suit are mainly those who still can't get over Henry Cavill. Even FORBES can tell you that.

The suit is a callback to the 40s, which is a bygone era and it needs to be retired. There are a slue of Batman suits throughout the yrs. Synder was the only 1 exploring other suits from the comics. Not really into this movie for a few reasons. I was nvr on board as soon as they mentioned Gunn's hire. I figured he'd bring goofy, MCU stuff to WB. And that's exactly what he's doing and didn't disappoint at all.... SMH

I really hate the adage about apples and oranges not only bc you literally CAN compare just about anything. And even more so bc apples and oranges are not that dissimilar, both moderately small fruit that grow on trees, both are high in vitamin c with a variety of types, one favors cooler northern climates the other more tropical southern ones, ones thick skinned and textured the other thin skinned and smooth, one the skin is often discarded but sometimes used as garnish or in pastries health products and stores much of the health benefits, the other this skin often consumed with the flesh. Many products are made from both from beverages to desserts, they're two of the most popular fruits in the US and probably the western world on and on

Cavil’s suit was shown during production, before the reveal & still looked great.
Guess what? Cornsweat’s reveal photo is POST production, it’s a glamorized edited photo revealing the suit… & guess what? It looks exactly the same as leaks.
People aren’t comparing the suits verbatim, they are simply comparing each suits execution & if it nails the look it’s going for, that’s it.

The Snyder cult is insane I don’t understand how anybody can be that big a fan of Snyders movies bro doesn’t even know how to write a coherent story, I like this suit much more than man of steel, man of steel reminds me of giving the X-men black leather instead of yellow and blue costumes
While I'm not too big on Snyder he did have a coherent story regardless of how dark it was it's just the studio kept interfering and caused changes which made it incoherent a prime example is both the suicide squad and JL. I foresee the same thing happening with Gunn because the studios get too greedy and they want a toy commercial and a good film that caters to both kids and adults all in one.
