I've never thought of ebikes are being stupid. Pretty much anything on two wheels will always be fun, including pedal bikes. Pedal bikes will just make you sweat but you can always have fun going downhill. Just won't have fun going back uphill! Haha!

Sur-ron batteries Shut off around 10% to keep the batteries from going dead. Keep the battery between 20% to 80% if possible. You hit 20% head home, go charge it...asap.
@@mtuz8356 balancing is important over time. But skipping the balancing part here and there won't hurt anything. I have used lithium batteries in the rc car and plane world for years. Back in the day we never balanced them. They slowly get out of balance. You would never have a problem balancing every other charge. But dramatic to say skipping that once would take a year off
Leaving the battery on the charger until the charger shuts down will balance the cells, and increase battery life. You'll get more charge cycles that way. BUT, if you want to save an hour, taking it off the charger at 95% is just fine. Every once in a while, let it charge fully and balance the cells. That last 5% takes a long time to push in, and it disappears in the first few minutes of the ride anyway. No need to 100% every single time.
Cruza @61 and disabled I ride my KLX250 maybe 5 days a year due to health issues. However I converted a vintage full suspension mountain bike into a 1500 watt (2 hp) eMTN I ride 2 to 3 days a week in the sand. Great fun and exhilarating on single track. The eMTN is a mid-drive BaFang BBSHD Kit hot rodded with after market software.
You have to understand lithium batteries are not the same as old school ni-mh batteries. You should avoid draining lithium batteries below 30% and above 80%. They don’t operste the same way as old school batteries. Good luck.
I may have an unpopular opinion - but I agree they are a bit too expensive for what they are. I was lucky enough to get mine for a good price and before the price increases. I think it should be a $3000-3600 bike max like it was before the hype. The components are cheap for the most part and once you start realizing what kind of $ you have to put in to make them really capable it gets a bit crazy. I absolutely love these bikes though and as a lot of others have stated already - look at the mtb or emtb segment and you realize the current prices of these surron/talaria aren't too bad in comparison.
Sur Rons ARE "really capable." What are you trying to do that it can't do?? Sure it's possible to throw a lot of money at it, but you don't really have to. Stock minus the green wire is awesome. Having ridden my friend's Sur Ron, I'd only want for a bigger battery for trips deeper into the wilderness.
@@TecnamTwin I think anyone coming from a MX background riding it hard like a pitbike would agree with me. Suspension/brakes/footpeg mounts/ wheels etc. The stock stuff just doesn't cut it. Definitely more than capable for the average rider just bombing trails and messing around though.
@@TecnamTwin in stock form, they're pretty weak. If you have zero experience with dirt bikes, they're the greatest thing ever. But if you've ridden dirt bikes, sur Rons kinda suck. Weak suspension. Weak breaks. Weeks foot pegs. Slow. But battery swapped with a new controller and suspension, and they become what they really should be from the factory one day.
Sur-Ron still passes for an eMTB where I'm at too. I use it as my daily commuter and shred along the way. 3K miles plus on mine :) trails are my favorite places to ride too for my channel.
No registration, no insurance, you can mod it to go faster..no gasoline, no exhaust system. There are plenty of benefits. It just doesn't have the range because gasoline has a huge advantage in terms of energy density vs lithium.
The final part of the charge is for balancing. Don’t take it off before the fan shuts at the end. This bike has potential for doing 70-80 mph. Changing gears battery or controller makes this bike a beast.
Sometimes we have to learn the hard way. lol I thank y'all for schooling me on charging. I had planned up upgrading the controller and battery but realized I don't need to go any faster in the woods. It is an expensive upgrade at 3k+.
@@CycleCruza I would change 48t sprocket to 52t in that case. It does trim the top speed, but you rarely do that off roading anyways. It gives you more torque coming out of turns...
@@CycleCruza I just upgraded my battery to a 51ah 60v from Chi Battery. This battery doubles you range and improves power. The stock battery is 32ah and cheaper cells. I sold my stock battery and charger so it cost me about $1100 and I'm stoked now because I can ride all day.
I don’t think solar would be good on the battery to may influxes in power output do you need a generator or solar hooked up to batteries with an inverter.
I have two Lectric XP 3.0s. I absolutely love them. These are the first bicycles I've had in a decade. More of a motorcycle guy but damn these are fun. I can ride on the road, hop on the sidewalk, roll through a park, pack them up and bring them to a city. Best money I've spent in a long time.
I don’t own a sur ron x, but will tell you above the battery and the charger. The way that those batteries are designed, the charger needs to complete it cycle for sure. Don’t unplug it before that cycle ends as it may be balancing the battery as a whole as to let some cells that may not be 100% charged to get that charge they need. Battery care is probably the most looked over part when it comes to making sure it’s charging correctly and that you don’t remove the charger before it is complete with the aforementioned info. Sorry if what I said is confusing. Hopefully it isn’t

Lemme tell you a story. I STARTED my moto journey with a folding bike like that (it did 35mph. but back in 2018, that wasn't illegal. since then, the laws been requiring the ebikes be turned down to 20mph... used to be a lot faster fresh out the store for a brief moment for these little bikes before when they were a new new thing). Anyway, I got super TIRED of doing what you did in this video (folding it up and putting it in the back of my car), eventually I downsized to an E scooter that went 25mph but it folded the stem only. WAY faster to stow and way easier to fit in a corner of your car VS taking up all the trunk. I think you might be doing the same thing soon haha. Youre also right about the speed thing. 25mph on that scooter is 200mph on a real bike. Something about tiny wheels and standing up that makes it feel so unstable but fun in a good way.
I want to get one of those e-scooters that do 75 mph, that would seem terrifying. lol Definitely wear full gear going that fast on those things. Some people have had a real f**ked up day crashing on those e-scooters with no gear.
The SurOn is even that much more fun when you change the controller and battery get her going 80mph shoot Jack Cecil’s SurOn he has it going 93mph he has the fastest one I’ve heard of
I kinda disagree on the price aspect. When it was $3,600 it was a steal. Demand has raised it to $4,200 or $4,400, which Id still consider reasonable but closing in on "hell no I'll just buy a new 250" territory. Just look at eMTB, those things are ridiculous in price +10k. If you compare the Sur Ron to other eDirt/Adventure bikes, it's a good bang for the buck. Sure a KTM Free Ride is better, but it's also 10-13k and still needs suspension work. The Cake is more powerful, built with better components, but again runs around 10-13k depending on the setup. The Sur Ron has a huge aftermarket compared to it's competitors. Yes parts are expensive, but you have the option to build a bike for your intended use. TBH, if I bought a VARG, Cake or KTM I wouldn't be doing shit to it, weather or not it fits the intended use. Just my .02

Maybe for you gasoline purists CC might do a two stroke custom build on a mountain bike. It's like dirt cheap for a kit and you must constantly be messing and adjusting and maintaining it. Yeah! CC: EFF THAT! :)
If you need a fun thing for travel you have to learn a power EUC, 50mph on a single wheel or blast offroad climbing 45-degree hills, better range and price than e-bikes too actually, all you gotta do is spent some painful few days learning how to ride.
Honda Navi is only $2000 and can do 50mph. No license required to ride one because it’s only 110cc. And it’s got a one gallon gas tank which is like $5 to fill up and you can get up to 75miles out of that one gallon tank.. sorry but the Honda Navi is a complete bargain and steal compared to the Sur Ron X
You can't ride that navi in all the places a sur Ron can tho. I can pull up next to pedal bikes and cruise with them. I can go on dirt. I can jump the bike. It's lighter than the navi. So many positives over the navi that it is not a bargin
Nice review. I'm between the Sur-Ron and the Zero DSR or Zero FX. You should do a test drive review on a Zero and see how it compares to the Sur-Ron. I want the Sur-Ron because it's cheaper. I'd need to trade in my V-Star Deluxe to get the DSR. Not sure what to do.
So, the only negative is that it's not as fun on the street as a bike that costs over 2x the price? Not bad. My best bud has had one of these for over a year and he's still in love. I'd have picked one up but I felt like goddamn Godzilla riding a kid's bike on that thing. He's 5'6" so, just right for him.

I made 'stealth bomber' clone instead because it was cheaper and more customizable, probably cheaper to upgrade to full power too, I just need a high quality battery, Sur Ron is the most popular one for a reason but you'd think it would be cheaper with the mass production effect. i think its fun when you first get it, then you start to realize all the issues that they didnt tell you about. for example, draining the battery too low causes issues charging it later on. or another example, hosing it down, which you are supposed to be able to do with no issue, makes the motor a little weird after the fact and isnt as stable. if your not a big youtuber or dont know anyone that knows extensive knowledge about ebikes, youll have to rely on old youtube videos and outdated forums. hopefully this should change with the growing popularity but still really infuriating since this is a 5k bike.
Sur Ron kicks ass, I just let someone ride mine who just bought a 450...they said they are considering selling it for the Sur Ron, because of how snappy and fun it was.
i can outpull a suron with 20" 1000w hub motor run on a 72v 1500w controller/battery. things on a 20" kids mountain bike (with uprated suspension). bike cost me about £600 to build.
sometimes you have to let it go to 100 percent to reset the battery im just a regualr guy but i do know that this happens sometimes and charging to 100% is like a reset for it like oit sbrand new
looked at these a couple years ago, and then the Zero bikes, then I was at 7000, for battery power, I went a got a 300 dual sport bike new lol. I got gas. we got gas man. and sorry, that Bell carbon is nice, I have two Race Star carbon's, but its not super-light. its perfectly average weight helmet. It's very well designed for air flow, 3k carbon fiber shell, an comes with the separate priced $150 protint photocromatic shield, which btw, tells u right on it, not for street use. its for track use only as it breaks more like glass and not crack like plastic shields. a great helmet., but its not 'super-light'.
I recently got the ecotric bison..I haven't got it set up yet..it was 2k .. but I'm almost wishing I spent the 4k for the sur ron.. but I thought they were like 7k...oh well.. im hoping I like the ebike I got.. maybe I'll get the sur ron some day
You outgrew the suron. If thats the case, i knew it would happen. To be honest for the price the specs are trash. I just didn't want to be that guy trashing your new toy. However, you can get much better specs for the same price. In some cases even cheaper. The e-bike category will give you better specs. Not the e-dirtbikes. Custom can also give you insanely better specs if you buy the stuff yourself and build it. Good specs to not get bored quick: 72ah battery for range and power. Motor 750w and up. 1000w if you do offroad and want to rip it. You can also get frames that look like a dirtbike. For 4k you'll have an 80mph with 50 to 70 miles range.
the entire MTB and E bike market is ridiculously Overpriced, pretty much impossible to get a decent MTB for under 3-4 grand, better off just buying a dirtbike
No battery ever requires full charges. If battery is not absolute trash it won't unbalance after one discharge. One would expect active balancing on 4k bike aswell.
i guess u just personally dont like it theres nothing wrong with it it may just not be for u if u a street guy, but then dont buy a offroad bike and complain about the street perfomance. there are no arguments in this video for it to be junk. i had mine for a half a year and its the best buy ever.

My Sur Ron Ludicrous XX is not just a toy. It has twice the torque of the X and can F someone up who doesn’t know how to ride a powerful bike. I let an employee ride it and he looped so fast so hard he was out cold. I will never let someone who isn’t experienced ride it again. And yes this bike is best off road or short urban trips. There is a reason why you and I also own gas motorcycles my friend. And they are all toys or they aren’t being rode right. 🤟🤪🏴☠️

I've never thought of ebikes are being stupid. Pretty much anything on two wheels will always be fun, including pedal bikes. Pedal bikes will just make you sweat but you can always have fun going downhill. Just won't have fun going back uphill! Haha!
I didn't think I would have much fun on ebikes but they surprised me. I actually ride my little $1k Heybike than I do my Sur Ron X. lol

Sur-ron batteries Shut off around 10% to keep the batteries from going dead.
Keep the battery between 20% to 80% if possible.
You hit 20% head home, go charge it...asap.
@@mtuz8356 balancing is important over time. But skipping the balancing part here and there won't hurt anything.
I have used lithium batteries in the rc car and plane world for years. Back in the day we never balanced them.
They slowly get out of balance. You would never have a problem balancing every other charge.
But dramatic to say skipping that once would take a year off
Leaving the battery on the charger until the charger shuts down will balance the cells, and increase battery life. You'll get more charge cycles that way. BUT, if you want to save an hour, taking it off the charger at 95% is just fine. Every once in a while, let it charge fully and balance the cells. That last 5% takes a long time to push in, and it disappears in the first few minutes of the ride anyway. No need to 100% every single time.
Cruza @61 and disabled I ride my KLX250 maybe 5 days a year due to health issues. However I converted a vintage full suspension mountain bike into a 1500 watt (2 hp) eMTN I ride 2 to 3 days a week in the sand. Great fun and exhilarating on single track. The eMTN is a mid-drive BaFang BBSHD Kit hot rodded with after market software.

You have to understand lithium batteries are not the same as old school ni-mh batteries. You should avoid draining lithium batteries below 30% and above 80%. They don’t operste the same way as old school batteries. Good luck.
This is still a major weak part for an e bike. World deserve better batterh. Maube a little nuclear reactor for 10 years battery ? LOL
I may have an unpopular opinion - but I agree they are a bit too expensive for what they are. I was lucky enough to get mine for a good price and before the price increases. I think it should be a $3000-3600 bike max like it was before the hype. The components are cheap for the most part and once you start realizing what kind of $ you have to put in to make them really capable it gets a bit crazy. I absolutely love these bikes though and as a lot of others have stated already - look at the mtb or emtb segment and you realize the current prices of these surron/talaria aren't too bad in comparison.
Have you priced any mountain bikes lately? These might have their minor issues, but price is not really one of them.

Sur Rons ARE "really capable." What are you trying to do that it can't do?? Sure it's possible to throw a lot of money at it, but you don't really have to. Stock minus the green wire is awesome. Having ridden my friend's Sur Ron, I'd only want for a bigger battery for trips deeper into the wilderness.
@@TecnamTwin I think anyone coming from a MX background riding it hard like a pitbike would agree with me. Suspension/brakes/footpeg mounts/ wheels etc. The stock stuff just doesn't cut it. Definitely more than capable for the average rider just bombing trails and messing around though.
@@TecnamTwin in stock form, they're pretty weak. If you have zero experience with dirt bikes, they're the greatest thing ever.
But if you've ridden dirt bikes, sur Rons kinda suck. Weak suspension. Weak breaks. Weeks foot pegs. Slow. But battery swapped with a new controller and suspension, and they become what they really should be from the factory one day.
Sur-Ron still passes for an eMTB where I'm at too. I use it as my daily commuter and shred along the way. 3K miles plus on mine :) trails are my favorite places to ride too for my channel.

No registration, no insurance, you can mod it to go faster..no gasoline, no exhaust system. There are plenty of benefits. It just doesn't have the range because gasoline has a huge advantage in terms of energy density vs lithium.
The final part of the charge is for balancing. Don’t take it off before the fan shuts at the end. This bike has potential for doing 70-80 mph. Changing gears battery or controller makes this bike a beast.
Sometimes we have to learn the hard way. lol I thank y'all for schooling me on charging. I had planned up upgrading the controller and battery but realized I don't need to go any faster in the woods. It is an expensive upgrade at 3k+.
@@CycleCruza I would change 48t sprocket to 52t in that case. It does trim the top speed, but you rarely do that off roading anyways. It gives you more torque coming out of turns...
@@CycleCruza I just upgraded my battery to a 51ah 60v from Chi Battery. This battery doubles you range and improves power. The stock battery is 32ah and cheaper cells. I sold my stock battery and charger so it cost me about $1100 and I'm stoked now because I can ride all day.

Would you replace your gas bike when doing your bugout trips? Also, how will it work being chargeing with your solar setup?
I don’t think solar would be good on the battery to may influxes in power output do you need a generator or solar hooked up to batteries with an inverter.
Sadly, solar technology hasn't reached a point where there are panels small enough to bug out with that could charge this type of vehicle.

I have two Lectric XP 3.0s. I absolutely love them. These are the first bicycles I've had in a decade. More of a motorcycle guy but damn these are fun. I can ride on the road, hop on the sidewalk, roll through a park, pack them up and bring them to a city. Best money I've spent in a long time.

I don’t own a sur ron x, but will tell you above the battery and the charger. The way that those batteries are designed, the charger needs to complete it cycle for sure. Don’t unplug it before that cycle ends as it may be balancing the battery as a whole as to let some cells that may not be 100% charged to get that charge they need. Battery care is probably the most looked over part when it comes to making sure it’s charging correctly and that you don’t remove the charger before it is complete with the aforementioned info. Sorry if what I said is confusing. Hopefully it isn’t

Lemme tell you a story. I STARTED my moto journey with a folding bike like that (it did 35mph. but back in 2018, that wasn't illegal. since then, the laws been requiring the ebikes be turned down to 20mph... used to be a lot faster fresh out the store for a brief moment for these little bikes before when they were a new new thing). Anyway, I got super TIRED of doing what you did in this video (folding it up and putting it in the back of my car), eventually I downsized to an E scooter that went 25mph but it folded the stem only. WAY faster to stow and way easier to fit in a corner of your car VS taking up all the trunk. I think you might be doing the same thing soon haha. Youre also right about the speed thing. 25mph on that scooter is 200mph on a real bike. Something about tiny wheels and standing up that makes it feel so unstable but fun in a good way.
I want to get one of those e-scooters that do 75 mph, that would seem terrifying. lol Definitely wear full gear going that fast on those things. Some people have had a real f**ked up day crashing on those e-scooters with no gear.

I kinda disagree on the price aspect. When it was $3,600 it was a steal. Demand has raised it to $4,200 or $4,400, which Id still consider reasonable but closing in on "hell no I'll just buy a new 250" territory.
Just look at eMTB, those things are ridiculous in price +10k. If you compare the Sur Ron to other eDirt/Adventure bikes, it's a good bang for the buck. Sure a KTM Free Ride is better, but it's also 10-13k and still needs suspension work. The Cake is more powerful, built with better components, but again runs around 10-13k depending on the setup.
The Sur Ron has a huge aftermarket compared to it's competitors. Yes parts are expensive, but you have the option to build a bike for your intended use. TBH, if I bought a VARG, Cake or KTM I wouldn't be doing shit to it, weather or not it fits the intended use. Just my .02

I’m late to the party but I’ve been wanting an e-bike mostly for commuting and somewhat trails. The new talaria xxx for 3k seems like a great deal but I could also get a fat tire e-bike for 1500 or less. What’s your opinion ?

If you need a fun thing for travel you have to learn a power EUC, 50mph on a single wheel or blast offroad climbing 45-degree hills, better range and price than e-bikes too actually, all you gotta do is spent some painful few days learning how to ride.
If you wanna ride right now but want to do a 20 minute charge from 30% then it's a no go ?

Honda Navi is only $2000 and can do 50mph. No license required to ride one because it’s only 110cc. And it’s got a one gallon gas tank which is like $5 to fill up and you can get up to 75miles out of that one gallon tank.. sorry but the Honda Navi is a complete bargain and steal compared to the Sur Ron X
Honda Navi is cool but it's totally different type of bike Surron is light and nimble to rip around off-road dirt and trail also a good commuter.
You can't ride that navi in all the places a sur Ron can tho. I can pull up next to pedal bikes and cruise with them. I can go on dirt. I can jump the bike. It's lighter than the navi. So many positives over the navi that it is not a bargin

It was the battery, these sometimes show around 10% but be on the edge of BMS cutoff.
You gotta let the cells balance after 100%. Leave on charge until charger has finished it’s thing .

Nice review. I'm between the Sur-Ron and the Zero DSR or Zero FX. You should do a test drive review on a Zero and see how it compares to the Sur-Ron. I want the Sur-Ron because it's cheaper. I'd need to trade in my V-Star Deluxe to get the DSR. Not sure what to do.

I made 'stealth bomber' clone instead because it was cheaper and more customizable, probably cheaper to upgrade to full power too, I just need a high quality battery, Sur Ron is the most popular one for a reason but you'd think it would be cheaper with the mass production effect. I would buy Sur Ron if it was half the price.

i think its fun when you first get it, then you start to realize all the issues that they didnt tell you about. for example, draining the battery too low causes issues charging it later on. or another example, hosing it down, which you are supposed to be able to do with no issue, makes the motor a little weird after the fact and isnt as stable. if your not a big youtuber or dont know anyone that knows extensive knowledge about ebikes, youll have to rely on old youtube videos and outdated forums. hopefully this should change with the growing popularity but still really infuriating since this is a 5k bike.
Sur Ron kicks ass, I just let someone ride mine who just bought a 450...they said they are considering selling it for the Sur Ron, because of how snappy and fun it was.

I think e bikes are cool if you are doing in town stuff, or if your in SoCal near the beach, doing beach cruises and not having to waste any gas.

bike cost me about £600 to build.
sometimes you have to let it go to 100 percent to reset the battery im just a regualr guy but i do know that this happens sometimes and charging to 100% is like a reset for it like oit sbrand new

looked at these a couple years ago, and then the Zero bikes, then I was at 7000, for battery power, I went a got a 300 dual sport bike new lol. I got gas. we got gas man.
and sorry, that Bell carbon is nice, I have two Race Star carbon's, but its not super-light. its perfectly average weight helmet. It's very well designed for air flow, 3k carbon fiber shell, an comes with the separate priced $150 protint photocromatic shield, which btw, tells u right on it, not for street use. its for track use only as it breaks more like glass and not crack like plastic shields. a great helmet., but its not 'super-light'.

You outgrew the suron. If thats the case, i knew it would happen.
To be honest for the price the specs are trash. I just didn't want to be that guy trashing your new toy.
However, you can get much better specs for the same price. In some cases even cheaper.
The e-bike category will give you better specs. Not the e-dirtbikes.
Custom can also give you insanely better specs if you buy the stuff yourself and build it.
Good specs to not get bored quick: 72ah battery for range and power. Motor 750w and up. 1000w if you do offroad and want to rip it.
You can also get frames that look like a dirtbike.
For 4k you'll have an 80mph with 50 to 70 miles range.
No bike on the market has the design features as the sur Ron. There is no better buy than the sur Ron. Really the only gripe is the range

the entire MTB and E bike market is ridiculously Overpriced, pretty much impossible to get a decent MTB for under 3-4 grand, better off just buying a dirtbike
No battery ever requires full charges. If battery is not absolute trash it won't unbalance after one discharge. One would expect active balancing on 4k bike aswell.
Stock surron has 6hp mine has about 26hp now. Bac4000 and 72v battery. Make riding on the streets fun.

The folding ebike is more comfortable.
Remove any and all sensrors. They always end up breaking down.

My Sur Ron Ludicrous XX is not just a toy. It has twice the torque of the X and can F someone up who doesn’t know how to ride a powerful bike. I let an employee ride it and he looped so fast so hard he was out cold. I will never let someone who isn’t experienced ride it again. And yes this bike is best off road or short urban trips. There is a reason why you and I also own gas motorcycles my friend. And they are all toys or they aren’t being rode right. 🤟🤪🏴☠️

From all the reviews I've seen it looks like mountain bike people love this bike and it's a hit or miss for Motorcycle people.
Surron is fun asf but the stock suspension is dawg shit, love the bike it’s fun to have in the stable for gooning wherever you want or just a casual chill ride in places I would never be able to take a dirt bike or street bike without people calling the cops.
Yeah they are pricey. But ya gotta pay to play😊
