    About 2 months ago I put up a Sirio 827 at 20 foot with LMR240 tuned at 27.500MHz, without a tuner it will work from about 25MHz ~ 30MHz, With a antenna tuner, it will tune in all the way to 160m at 160w with a 1.0 SWR. I have worked many stations on both 10 & 11 meters around the globe with 100 ~ 160 w...Russia, Japan, Jamaica, Hawaii, Australia, Liverpool, Ukraine, Brazil, Wales, Slovenia, New Zealand, Porta Rico, Czech Republic, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Chile, Cuba.... just to name a few, all from my California QTH. It is an amazing antenna and I will probably stick with them for life....until something better comes along! :) ~Jack, VEG

    Hello Mower Junkie. Here is Joël (Middle France) and i have the same antenna in rescue in the garden, juste about 4 m upground in the QRA of my wife and the GP 27 make a good job in 27 mhz and 28 mhz (with ATU my Yaesu FT991A). Antenna very simple, and not expansive and also good quality. 73's. I hope cu one day on the air.

    I love my Sirio Gainmaster 5/8 ~ with the feedpoint being only 4' from the ground mounted on a cast iron patio umbrella stand and 75' of M&P Hyperflex10 coax, a flat match is achieved and been around the World on it dozens of times. Sirio makes a great product.😏👍⚡️🎙

    The receive is very clear, showing this new design is well done. SSB is almost AM like.
    You need to get the UK 40 FM channels programmed into one of those channel sets and try some FM from OVER THERE, THEY will come back thrilled because for most of them FM is all they have and no DX is done in FM. I worked a bunch of the FM users on their channel 40, 27.99125 MHz your just setup antenna should work well?

    • @MowerJunkie
      @MowerJunkie  8 місяців тому +1

    Liked the broadband SWR. Keep hoping to make contact with you, but I think we are too close, 550 miles. Heard you once or twice months ago. I don't spend much time on 385, too busy.
    Being in the middle of the continent, receiving the US and Canada from three directions that don't necessarily hear each other as well as European stations has its challenges.
    Still listening!!! Talked with 1963 in Jamaica again about a month ago. I get in there Well, around 1100 mi. My first hop seems to be 1-2k miles. 3AT101 Sao Paulo Brazil today.

      @@MowerJunkie There is a beacon quality, but no known location, and the 3-5 min duration makes it definate jamming. Just wasting them precious sunspot particles. Cool channel, M.J. 👍

      @MowerJunkie  8 місяців тому +1

      There're are a lot of verticals to choose from, most 1/2 wave perform about the same, or you could go with a 5/8 wave for a little better performance.

  • @UDX-59Z
    @UDX-59Z 8 місяців тому +1

    Loving my Sirio GPS-27 too, John! But I remember a video from June where you added a ground plane kit to it from the GPE 27. How did that work for you back then and are you going to add that same ground plane kit to the GPS-27 to make it a 5/8ths? Thanks. - Brad UDX-59Z (Salt Lake City)

    • @MowerJunkie
      @MowerJunkie  8 місяців тому +1

      I accidentally damaged 2 of the radials. the kit did very little for the antenna, so I just put it up as a vertical.

    • @acidreign8551
      @acidreign8551 8 місяців тому +1

      Adding a ground plane kit doesn't make it a 5/8ths wave, it just uses the ground plane radials instead of the mast underneath it as the counterpoise. You will get slightly lower angle of radiation off of it as low angle of radiation is what you want for DX,, ideally 5 degrees is what you want. This antenna can be a real bleeder as it uses the mast as the counterpoise and can cause some issues with RFI, in your shack or your neighbors computer speakers, etc. even being well grounded, and that's just how an antenna of this design is. High winds will bend it over pretty good like a fishing pole, and over time it will fatigue and eventually break.
      As for the Sirio antennas, the 827 is the best. It is a 5/8ths wave and is built tough. Mine has taken 70 mph gusts and not so much as a tweak/bend, or breaking anywhere. With the 8 1/4 wave radials for the ground plane, even the fattest of birds hasn't bent them yet lol. Also those 1/4 wave radials makes it a lot easier to lay over and maintain if needed. Mine is as a pretty low at 18 feet to its base as i am height restricted here some what. A regular 5/8ths wave like a Maco would be a problem here for me as my roof has high gables and the ground radials would be smacking into the top of the gables for me. Smaller lateral foot print is much better for me here. I have had mine up for about two years now here in Vegas, and i have talked all over the US/canada, south pacific, and into europe as deep in as Belgium in the spring of this year when conditions between me and them were very good, with no more than 300 watts and only at 18 feet high to the base (a half wave length around 27 Mhz) Take off angle seems to be pretty good down low if you cant get any higher. One of these days i need to run a plotter and see what it tells me about that.
      The Sirio 2016 has problems with breaking as well as the plastic cover over the coil does not hold up well to UV, and can trap moisture inside it and on it's coil. Moisture inside can cause an arc/short when running some power. Bad juju.
      The tornado is also weak and likes to snap at the base.
      The Sirio 827 is best ground plane they make. Do some research and read all the reviews, you will see what i mean.

    • @UDX-59Z
      @UDX-59Z 8 місяців тому

      @@acidreign8551 ...yeah I think we kind of knew that adding the ground plane radials does not turn it into a 5/8ths wave antenna. It's just that the GPE-27 is likely identical to the GPS-27 but with the addition of the ground planes. No visible differences in the coil at the feed end or the OAL. But it was just one of the things that I think John was trying there to see if it would add value to his ½ wave. Apparently not though! I have my "half wave" GPS-27 up on my roof and it's working great.
