Have a Tram 1498 right now 53ft to tip and 1.1 SWR not having much luck . Going to order the Maco BA 1 and try it out. Any recommendations on how high to mount it? Thank you for your reply . 45 central North Carolina
@@WiMichael Ran across your comment concerning antenna height. I did a lot of research on the subject of antennas and skip, it seems 30 t0 35 feet from the ground to top tip is the point where the skip angle is at a perfect angle to skip bounce back down off the ionosphere. When the antenna is to high it will over shoot the ionosphere and make the angle to short for a good skip bounce. I'm running bare foot on an homemade horizontal 1/2 wave 18 foot horizontal dipole. For local none skip, the higher the better. I have it loose on the mounting strap, the mounting pole is 2 inch thin wall steel pipe with no guy wires 35 feet long, so I can rotate it 1/4 of a turn to get the North and South one way and East and West the other. Usually if I can hear a contact I can make return contact on skip. I am running a Galaxy DX 2547 Base with a Turner desk mike. I hope this info is some help to you, it works well for me. Have you tried the fairly new Maco boomer kit? It is designed to be installed on "Fiberglass" verticles like the Antron, Solarcon, Tram base antennas. Like the Antron 99 ground plane kit, instead of having the ground radials swooping down, the Maco has their radials perpendicular 90° deg of the antennas feed point. Maco claims it will make the Fiberglass antenna perform like an all aluminum ground plane. Not sure what they mean by that? Iam thinking of purchasing one for my Gainmaster 5/8ths wave.

Just remember being horizonal the take-off point will be higher so for DX you might be better off making it vertical. Way back in the mid60s I had a 3 element up maybe 15 feet with a hinge set up to flip it flat or vertical, mistakingly thinking being flat would talk skip better. At that lo of an altitude, it should be omni directional. I use one without a gamma match, just two 1/4λ aluminum pieces, isolated from each other, and fed with the coax directly. I get 150milliwatts reflected from 2000 watts going forward on 27.200Mhz. Mine stays below 1.5:1 from 26.500 to 28.300 Mhz.
Can make these homemade like did 102 homemade base antenna?
Did I miss something? Did you make the antenna?
it's the middle section of a 3 element beam, when I get the rest of the parts needed, I'll be putting up the entire beam. Thanks for watching, 73's
Used to run PDL II back in the day, spent a lot of time on the flat side. When I made the mount for the rotor I made it tip able hinges on one side and adjusting bolt on opposite side. Able to change angle to sky like playing pool with skip. Do you have measurements of the part you have up? May attempt to build something similar. 73s
@@joepacheco4038 this antenna is exactly the same as a Maco BA1. if You Google it, all the specs are easy to find.
What's the length of each element
which is better? use balun or gamma match
those are 2 completely different devices. a gamma match tunes an antenna. and a balun reduces RF interference. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
Hello everyone. I’m interested in the dipole antenna. What brand is it and is there any still out there? Thanks 5Watts Central Coast of California. I’m back quite
Try the Sirio SD 27 Dipole look on Amazon for reviews
@@amdgamer1990 thank you I’m going to check it out 👍🏻
What kind of pipe is that you are putting in the ground? I was looking at my local hardware store and they want $32.00 for a piece of steel pipe 11/2" by 36".
it's the top rail for a chain link fence. Lowes has 20' top rail for about $25. and 10' for about $13.
I love my zero five it 5/8 wave it bit pricey but it built like a tank
N it take a bit of power lol
N I know it will take 100mph+ winds lol but not my roof
I like making my own I have made a lot in 40+ years
What is the length of the antenna rods?
Waiting to hear you on slip my do pole is sirio model ( I thought too flimsy ) but over 3 4 years winter storms and spring winds still shooting with antenna switch in line right at 1 to 1 at radio connector I'm set so/southwest. To north nor east my strongest east texas but your area comes in well

I can't get my SWR below 1.7 to 1 all around the dial!
¿ Me puede dar las medidas del gamma y los materiales por favor ?
Can you find these on ebay?
I'm not sure, I haven't looked yet.
This is getting Good!!🎧📡🤳
These would good for portable setup would be good setup at local parks.
probably not, this is a big antenna. it's over 17 feet long, and has a gamma match that could get damaged easily. Thanks for watching, 73's.
DX has been quiet here in the NW. . Cycle is building up tho. . 73's from 803 Washington State.

Awesome antenna, MowerJunkie could an old 2 meter copper JPole be extended and mounted on the flat much the same as what you’ve done with the yagi center?
Really enjoy watching your videos, and the pussy cat makes them even better !
Very good video
Great job
Get that up on the roof on a rotator John it’ll be great
That's what I'm hoping for! I'm sure it won't take long to find a rotator. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.

Nice! Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
Good antenna only 4 elements cool
Hey mower junkie ! Where did you buy this antenna from?
Ebay, a few years ago.
Mower junkie should look up on eBay 10 Meter Rotating Dipole Ham Radio Antenna w/ 2 Workman WHF-10 Antennas & Mount
You said the meter moved as much as a human hair.
What kind of measurement is that!?
I need something a little more precise.
Like the color of that human hair, ie., Black, Red, Blond etc.
