  • The Honda Pioneer 700 has a small, weak battery from the factory. After installing a bunch of electrical accessories on my Pioneer including a stereo, aftermarket lighting, a cab heater and a winch, it was time to make the upgrade. There was no room to add a second battery under the hood, so I installed one under the driver's seat. The stock battery has a measly 240 cold cranking amps while the Optima has a whopping 750, not to mention a long reserve time of 120 minutes at 25amps! In this video I will show you how I did it and how I wired it. Below will be Amazon (Paid) links to all of the items I used to make the switch.

    In the process of installing my new battery box thanks to your idea! One thing I did different was I went with an Optima Marine battery as it has an extra set of screw posts so I can attach all of my accessories to them and I isolated the battery and made it stand alone in case I left something on and ran the battery down. Thanks again for the great video and the relocate idea.

    I welded a 2" flat bar to the bottom of my box like your box, bent the remainder of the bar going up the side of the battery/outside the left side of the battery that tied into the outside (left) of the seat bracket with a bolt/nut pulling it upwards. The battery box without this brace had a wiggle. It doesn't now. I also didn't insulate my battery box yet. I'm planning on using some thin galvanized HVAC metal to protect the battery from rocks, etc.

    Good job. I see all kinds of ways of doing these machines. I would definitely wrap that battery with some cool it or more insulation. Gets crazy hot. Some guys header wrap the header for the heat and noise. 👍

      I have the opposite problem on mine. I can never get the machine hot. I think it's my use. I don't do any mudding or anything, just around my wooded property. Nonetheless, I put heat shield on the side of the battery box to help keep the heat out.

    U better do another upgrade for a aluminum or steel grill to block the radiator from any debris because some one ran over a willow tree and a branch wound up through my radiator,the radiator is garbage it's made so thin,that now I had to make a grill to help it stay safe for the second time

  • @thewelder9492

    I like this idea. Did it make any difference for cold weather starts? That’s what I am most concerned about. I know in a video u changed plugs to iridium’s.

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  2 роки тому +1

      The battery and plugs did help a lot with cold starts. I always turn the key and let it prime completely and then turn the key. If it doesn't start right away it's best to let off the key and then immediately turn it again and it will always fire right up. These things don't like the extreme cold as far as starting goes but once you learn the system they fire every time

    Great video, thanks! Time for me to make the same upgrade due to added accessories. I am curious as to how you went about choosing this battery with so many choices out there? Were you going for most power that would fit in that location or other reasons? Why not a car/truck battery with 750 CCA? Sorry if dumb question but are there limitations/parameters that must be met? Thanks for all your videos, they are so well done!

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  8 місяців тому

      I chose this battery because it is also meant to be drained on using the stereo or some other accessory and still be able to start the vehicle. A regular car battery is not meant to be run down. It's meant to provide all of it's CCA power in short bursts to start only.

    Thank you for the video.
    I have all the players for the upgrade except the angle for the battery box. I will be welding it together like you did, but I have a couple of questions.
    Our local box store has the 1 1/4” and 1 1/2” angle like j your video. It’s Zinc and only 14ga. I was thinking of using the 1 1/4” angle iron but it’s much thicker than 14ga.
    Have you noticed any flexing or cracking in the lighter angle you used since the weight of the battery could cause some flexing as you mover over rough terrain?
    Thanks again for the video and the insight.
    Cheers

      I haven't had any issues at all but it definitely wouldn't be a bad idea to use stronger than necessary metal. You really cant overbuild this box, especially if you do a ton of offroading, which I do not.

    What's the 700s stator output? Will it need to be upgraded?

  • @stopthenonsense971
    @stopthenonsense971 3 роки тому

    Stupid question....so even if the 700 is running accessories like the radio, lights, etc. will still put a drain on the battery?

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  3 роки тому +1

      Just depends. If you excede what your stator can produce, which is around 450 watts, you will be eating battery life. For things like a winch, you need more reserve power. The stator on the side by side can't power the winch at all. It can only serve to charge the battery back up after you are done using it. This is why a larger battery is important when adding high electrical load accessories.

      Thanks, when you installed your 100amp breaker for the big battery upgrade, did you remove the 30amp breaker you ran for the six blade fuse block that powered your accessory panel on the dash in your earlier upgrade? Essentially running it all through the bigger 100amp breaker or did you just kept them both separate running your winch solely on the dedicated 100amp breaker? I am currently installing a winch and an accessory panel and was wondering. Also, did you utilize the same 12v accessory line from the cigarette lighter to power the relay(accessory panel upgrade) as well as the winch relay allowing power only when the ignition is on? What location did you end up using for the momentary winch button?
      Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn from your experiences.

  • @twig7105

    So do you think this battery is probably double the size of the factory battery? Is that most of the reason why people put in two batteries because they are so small and drain down pretty quickly?

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone

      It should be fine, as long as you aren't using more amps then the charging system puts out, it will charge the battery. Biggest thing is, if the battery is really low, make sure you charge the battery first instead of jump starting it, less load on the charging system.
