Classical music is timeless. Whether you've been a classical music enthusiast for a long time or are just beginning to explore it, it's always worth experiencing and discovering more.
While all Baroque music is flexible enough to be adapted to virtually any forces, it seems especially interesting how Bach never seems to be out of place when his music is adapted to just about any instruments. These arrangements for guitar of his violin sonatas and partitas is Exhibit A as testimony to this fact. They sound as if they were conceived for the guitar. Thanks in large part to the arranger, of course. But the naturalness of his melodic and contrapuntal contours never resists adaptation to any forces. Probably the main reason why "Switched-On Bach" was so popular. These wonderful performances of his sonatas and partitas for violin arranged for guitar are just gorgeous, utterly musical, and totally natural.
I agree, but I think perhaps a kind of confirmation bias comes into play also, because arrangers will of course only arrange pieces that actually work. Or rather, it is their successful attempts that we are most likely to hear. Still, Bach's compositions seem to work with any instrument that has the range for the piece, with a musical clarity and charm that remains surprising and insightful more than 450 years after his death.
Good point Tom and I too have wondered why Bach's music is so robust when transcribed not just across different instruments but also genres, Jazz for instance. In my view Bach is unique in this respect and I suspect that the basis for this quality is the harmonic robustness of his compositions. Even in single note solo instruments eg violin partitas, the harmonic element is very strong - we are always clear on the chord agreements. It's really damnably clever. Bach's vision and musical intent are clear and precise throughout; the music has a natural path through which it flows never sounding forced or arbitrary. Melodic inspiration is one thing but the "workmanship" that Bach deploys in his composition process especially around the harmonic dimension is to to be marvelled at and gives his music a rock solid basis for melodic creativity.

Bach’s music has never been an easy listen. Those in the 1700’s didn’t listen or understand. The complexity of divinity Bach strives for, nor did they believe that god did either. Much like today Bach’s genius is lost in the motion of the fugues of confusion relayed through exasperation at the normal intelligence can not like nonetheless live that which is beyond their comprehension.

Not a lot one can add really, I used to play some of these on violin many years ago; they are as vibrant and metronomically cordant as ever and sound as good if not better on guitar. A wonderful crispness they have. I would guess in Bach’s day some folk played these on lute. Healing, relaxing, and inspiring loving music. I listen to these on my iPad Pro when in the bath 🕊💕

My mother bought that for me as christmas present when i was 15. 40 years ago. I couldn't understand why she choosed something like that and didn't listen too much. Today i do both.
Something very good happens between Bach's music and the guitar instrument. As if both sides gains from this confluence: Bach's music feels more free and the guitar finds musical-treasures that were not meant initially for it. Given this encounter to the hands and soul of a professional guitar player like Francesco Teopini - and we get more than 100 % enjoyment. Bravo!!! Thanks Brilliant Classics for uploading.
What's also amazing about his music is all the instruments it can adapt to. I haven't known the guitar sonatas for very long and already they're some of my favorites. ...I was blinded by Glen Gould this entire time!
Blind and blessed. Glen was considered the best in the world at the time, he was invited to Russia and the Ukraine to perform. He came back amazed at how good and strong the Ukrainian string players were, shortly after he quit knowing he'd never reach those heights ever again. And this from a sometimes classical guitarist!
My go-to for Sei Solo on guitar. Restrained deviations from the violin score and a consequent focus on tone elevate the instrument in my opinion; and further, tap in to the creative spirit which must have inhabited the composer.
This is possibly the best JSB on the guitar - it's brilliant and beautiful. A special recording to be sure. Those trills in the Bm Allemande - breathtaking.
It is especially obvious in case of these sonatas, that these tunes in fact exist and always existed in the fabric of the universe with our without Bach, but of course it takes some LIKE Bach to find them and put them on paper.

Isn't this phenomenal playing? Once more, B.C. introduces us (me, at least) to a superb young musician, with an apparently promising career beckoning - deservedly. He probably has no need for more compliments; & B.C., either, for their wonderful presentations. Complaint? Info about Francesco's fine guitar? It supports his talent quite brilliantly (no less). Luthiers deserve due credit. Thanks to all.
This is perfect, exactly what I was looking to listen to this morning. So beautiful. I love Bach guitar arrangements and this guitarist is incredible, a virtuoso for sure! This is one of the nicest albums of classical guitar arrangements I have ever heard. Thank you! I love this channel!

Just as other reviewers have claimed, these works sound natural guitar repertoire. As guitar/violin works, they stand above everything else composed like stars compared to grains of sands: this music underneath is perfection from top to bottom, the very best that can be achieved on string instruments. Performer's excellent phrasing and crisp clarity of execution only makes it clearer than ever (and also what an extraordinary violinist Bach must have been).

Maravilloso.
beautiful music from the master. Great job on the transcription and adaptation to the guitar. love to see some tabs for this! I bet a ton of guitarists (including myself) would love it.:)
I personally love the harpsichord; but these works sound really amazing by guitar ! There is an extremely fascinating and exquisit lightness in this heavenly music!
I myself would never play Bach like this... but lord this man is good. I seriously adore the way he plays. And the recording quality is outstanding. There is no excuse for albums of lesser quality in this day and age. One of my personal top 10 go to albums. Just bought my own copy.
Bach rocks! Especially on guitar. Superb recording, too! I could listen to this all day, all night. I cannot get too much of this fantastic, intricate music and of the lovely tones of the classical guitar. Thanks for posting it!
not kidding. i play the WTC every day, about 20 favorite tunes. There is blues , jazz and even FUNK (especially towards the end of book two, those are FUNK syncopations, that last prelude in Bmi, esp), and how many possible permutations of chordal and melodic theory is it possible for one individual to assay? truly bach was a madman!
UA-cam classical guitar channel surfing, thought I'd stop and have a quick listen - yeah sure. As said above, quoted by David Russell, who is one of the inspirations of my youth, 'that Francesco Teopini ‘plays with a beautiful sound, faithfully recorded. His interpretation shows a deep understanding of these major works.’ ,I should have known that I wasn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Thank you for uploading this and enlightening a formerly ignorant Australian lifelong classical guitar student. Mr.Teopini is an absolutely wonderfully tasteful interpreter of Bach and I can't wait to devour some of his interpretations of the Spanish composers. Again Thank you !!
Most impressive in every respect. And so cleanly played. Used to play from the violin score myself when in distant parts - middle section of the chaconne excepted!

its amazing what musicians produced, and how brilliant was the mind to preserve the way they wanted to play a piece. Musical notes are not only for the Superior musician, but to preserve it the idea of music. I really hope that mainstream music always leave an empty space only for people to have access to this wonderful and magnificent ouvre.

And! ...
I must always listen to what Bachs mind, body and spirit, has to say to me.
Excellent!
Thanks!!!
Tal vez me ponga a estudiar el Carulli para aprender nota saludos amigos ;
Veramente bravo!
Bach? Ever and ever again, thank's.
Bravo!
Monumental endeavor and superb rendition in every respect. Teopini for President!!!
beautiful music from the master. Great job on the transcription and adaptation to the guitar. love to see some tabs for this! I bet a ton of guitarists (including myself) would love it.:)
Perfect and unbelievably beautiful performance! Thank you very much!
I personally love the harpsichord; but these works sound really amazing by guitar ! There is an extremely fascinating and exquisit lightness in this heavenly music!
Every performance in this album sounds to me excellent, graceful and well supported by musicological analysis.
Grazie mile Brilliant Classics !!! Musica eterna !!!
Grandioso Bach en guitarra! Gracias por compartir !
This is really brilliantly played, with a Gouldian brio and staccato.
The notes are nicely enunciated.
Francesco plays with a very accurate and consistent rythm. Not all professional guitar players do the same.
Bravo Francesco!
Bach is the Father of Music. everyone learned from him. All forms of modern music originated from his genius.
Agreed!!!
not kidding. i play the WTC every day, about 20 favorite tunes.
Well.... this guy has DEFINITELY PUT THE WORK IN!!! (Next! Cello Suites please!) lol
Most impressive in every respect. And so cleanly played. Used to play from the violin score myself when in distant parts - middle section of the chaconne excepted!
11 de 3 del 2021 empiezo a entender a j.s. BACH jenio de la musica ; aunque soy lirico aficionado ; ya capto con mas finura :; las conbinaciones tonales ;
its amazing what musicians produced, and how brilliant was the mind to preserve the way they wanted to play a piece. Musical notes are not only for the Superior musician, but to preserve it the idea of music. I really hope that mainstream music always leave an empty space only for people to have access to this wonderful and magnificent ouvre.
Listening again and again
...
The first thing that comes up when you type classical guitar into youtube, I'm glad it is..
What a stellar recording. Thanks.
Exactly what I did and why I'm here. :)
@@fuongteimin Cheers!
It's really an excellent recording. I only wish there was a video to go along. I would love to be able to watch him play these incredible works.
P.S. I am a classical guitarist myself. I release videos monthly if you are interested. :)
Thank you for posting this.
Ohh. How mucho love for Bach. I'll going to Hear it completly...
Hello, I just subscribed to your channel, please subscribe to mine as well, if you like...thanks.
oh good. Thank you so much. Thanks for share
you said it jason. bach and mozart were probably the two greatest composers in history and they are both my number 1 favorites with vivaldi and beethoven a very close second.
Bach ist der größte!
An exquisitely refined interpretation are Bach's Classical Guitar melodies. They are a magical poetic work that entails inner peace.
So lovely; some of the best I've ever heard.
This performance embodies Bach‘s musical aesthetics
I love your Bach's recording
I play violin and love to play this, but listening to this with guitar makes me wonder this can also be made for guitar!
"While my lute gently weeps..."
exactly looool
Which part?
NICE ONE!
"Shut up and play yer lute." Frank Zappa, 1831
or 'oud' to joy
